Danger-Mouse
Not the dog, the film, starring Tom Hanks. I've just finished watching it and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Tense, often terrifying and at times touching. Telling the story of the destroyer Greyhound escorting a trans Atlantic convey which comes under attack from a German wolfpack. A relatively short film done in the best tradition of an old style Sunday afternoon war movie if you know what I mean. A wonderful moment at the end when the RP British accent greets them and the twist in the plot is revealed. A very solid performance from Mr Hanks who also wrote the screenplay. Not a huge amount of characterisation in the film but very enjoyable nonetheless. If you have 90 minutes spare to watch it then I can definitely recommend it. strimmer_13
Looks like my Ps4 or TV don't support apple TV. Be dammed if I'm buying a apple product to plug in. See what I can figure out for tonight's viewing

chrisjpainter
Yeah. I think when the trailer came out it had 'based on real events' or something tagged into it at the beginning. Yes...There was a World War 2. Yes...there were convoys to and from America. But other than that, it's fiction. Does it have the technical nature of midway, or the tension of Das Boot? I wasn't blown away by the trailer, but I really wanted to like the film! Not that it matters, because I can't at Apple thingy! Dave-G
I watched it tother night, brilliantly put together with Tom doing his usual excellent acting. Some tense times where I noticeably breathed heavier. I found the use of 'left turn' and 'right turn' commands a bit jarring as i was taught to port or starboard and casually wonder if that is an american practice or dummed down for the no wartime viewer. I seem to remember watching some of Das Boot but I can't recall if I've seen it all the way through. Pretty sure I haven't seen Midway. Certainly there is tension and there is some focus on technical issues. Available on all good torrent sites if you really want to see it. saddler
Watched it last weekend Very short movie - not a lot of character development Not sure if some of the anti-sub tech, featured was actually in use at the time the film is set Lots of action, of sorts Movie was spoiled for being too short - no idea if that was down to the editing or other factors - not as gripping as more traditional movies on the topic made in past decades; high on CGI, low on plot
GingerCat
I have an aversion to war films involving ships since having to watch das boat, torah torah torah, and the cruel sea about a million times due to my dads fascination with it. Tom hanks is normally pretty good.
strimmer_13
Watched it last night, good film but far too short and no real story. Good job it wasn't in cinemas in normal times as it wouldn't of made the cut of normal Hollywood blockbusters. Still well worth a watch though
Pistol p
There’s an excellent podcast covering this film by Dan Carlin called Hardcore history addendum, it includes a phone chat with Tom hanks who spends time explaining the variations on the real Story and the Filming process. As an addition Tom hanks is also in the middle of filming a new docu series similar to band of brothers. It’s going to be about the 8th army airforce based in east Anglian from 1941 to 1945.
