ONS Survey

My mother lives in Leeds and has been contacted by the ONS to complete a survey and a COVID test every week for the first month and then once per month for a year after that. For this she will receive high street vouchers to the tune of £50 for the first visit and £25 for every visit after that. That’s £400 in vouchers and there’s two of them so £800 in total for the year. Anybody else had the letter?

My misses had the letter a month or so back, She couldn't take part because she works, and couldn't guarantee to be in when they call. I think they gave a time slot, something like AM or PM.

That's sounds suspicious,  why would you get paid to be tested?

Or shall we throw the susceptible "under a bus" or put them in "solitary" for the rest of their lives?

No, they can take sensible precautions.

Or do we continue to lock up the healthy, and choke to death the economy, that rather important thing that pays for the medicines and care of these people with preexisting medical conditions?

Have you any idea of the looming economic catastrophe this idiocy is about to unleash. Without a healthy functioning economy there is nothing.

100%       Problem is the last 50 yrs have been so cushy for people they can't handle it. Gone soft. Scared of their own shadows.

He's got thousands of Blockbuster shares as well

i have no idea what the or who the vouchers are for , but i can guarantee that if the government are giving them away , theyll be worth about as much as woolworth vouchers and blockbuster shares.

some might call me cynical , but bitter life experience is nearer the truth .

So, in your view, what are these "sensible precautions" but before you answer consider Raja's post.

I would suggest voluntary self-isolation. If people want to take the risk and live life to the full then fill their boots. If they are risk adverse then isolate at home as the vulnerable were advised to do until recently.

So basically - house arrest.   Even us vulnerable have to eat/visit docs/exercise and have that much used term "human rights" to see family and friends.  Or are we, as I suggested before, to be thrown under a bus by the selfish who cannot possibly do without their foreign holiday or partying nights out.   I am not saying close down the country, you can still work and exercise you just need to curtail your close social contact for a bit as this seems to be a major spread point.

It’s your choice. Should people lose their jobs (aviation, leisure, hospitality, sport etc etc.) because of you? To say people can still go to work without realising that the economy is dependent on social interaction and the country is slowly being strangled with the restrictions in place.
