Has anybody been contacted by them? My next door neighbour has and been told to self isolate. They are a retired couple in their 50’s. By their own admission they are very boring, never go out, get all of their food delivered and very paranoid over this whole thing.  I myself have seen them once in the last six months and that was through the hedge when he was mowing the  lawn. He is totally flummoxed as to how his details could have been given by somebody.

Contacted by them this morning, very helpful, was very interested in my place of work who are apparently already on their to do list.

A friend who works with OH phoned just last night to say she had been ‘pinged’, and just wanted OH to know, and told her she had been for a test.
Their boss of course went into panic mode 🙄, which slightly panicked OH, but all is well now and friend has tested negative.

My alert said don’t have a test unless you have symptoms.

Indeed. I googled advice while OH was informing her elderly parents ( whose house she had earlier been in ) to sanitise the front door handle, 🙂 and the advice is to crack on and not to have a test unless you show symptoms.
Friend was told to self isolate but went for a test anyhow.
It also states that the test is free only if you show symptoms, but this is apparently not true because friend showed no symptoms but her test was free. 🤷‍♂️

I’m assuming that I ‘only’ have to isolate four four days as the contact must have been 6 days ago (making it 10 in total) which is ridiculous.

This is the problem,  how many people might you have been in contact with over the last 6 days?

How many people might it be if you had been out enjoying the festive season,  parties, meals out, shows, public transport.

Which is why it is flawed and definitely not world beating.

They do indeed, but I know my friends well, including those who lie, but I wouldn't include any of these in that category.

This is what OH was concerned about as she was due to work in the morning ( this morning ) and I had to meet someone in town this morning also, which is why I googled it.

I've been for a test (I had a new cough).

No one checks for any symptoms at the test centres.

You just tick the box online when booking your test, saying you have at least 1 of the symptoms, and that's it.

If you do not say you have one of the symptoms you cannot book a NHS test, you can however get a private paid for test.

Unless of course, the person booking a test is in one of the areas, where anyone can have a test, regardless of showing symptoms.

This is my understanding also, according to what I’ve read online.
We live in Eden; I have no idea whether it is an area where anyone can have a test, but according to the news last night cases are much higher than they were recently, and from what I’ve heard today on the grapevine, we have the new strain. Time will tell.

😀 Just had a look at that link you sent me, and it’s looking rather grim!
There is less than a mile separating the town from at least one of those hamlets, yet cases have skipped a zone from fourth from top to second from top within less than a mile in one of the least inhabited areas of the NW. 😕

Therein lies the rub, the zone "colours" are based on cases per 100,000 so in a low inhabited area one family of say 4 becoming infected makes for a 100% rise in infection rates.

There was something on about the Eden valley earlier saying cases were climbing

https://www.lancs.live/news/local-news/latest-covid-infection-rates-eden-19508689

I'm wondering if people working away have returned home for xmas and brought the virus back to these places.

Strangely enough if you look at the link Barrow now has one of the lowest rates across the country.

Rumours abound but I doubt anyone can nail it down.

Update. Friend has phoned OH to say that she should nt have received a text, but instead should have been contacted by an official who would advise her. She has been made aware of this by her boss, who had contacted officialdom to see how long her employee ( friend ) should isolate for.
It would appear the system is flawed! Who’d have thought? 🙂

Ten days since last contact.
