Mice!
Its been mentioned a few times just how isolated NZ is, while I agree the number of flights in and out of the UK has been ridiculous people aren't travelling through NZ on a daily basis. Now if the rest of the world was not so over populated maybe we would not be in **** street, one day we will settle on one child per family & stop breeding like rabbits. JohnfromUK
This virus cannot 'spread itself'. It simply hitches a lift with people who carry it around very freely. NZ has tackled that.

Yes, but even Auckland the capital is nowhere near like London, Birmingham, Bolton etc etc where people are living and working cheek by jowl. Example .... Mel and his job in one of the tightest populated regions of the UK but if Mel and his team stopped work and went into isolation the streets of the West Midls would be like they where in the dustbin strike for those who remember but worse. Folks still have to do jobs in highly populated areas and covid loves that.

NZ acted very early and managed to keep almost all cases out - and clamp down very quickly on the few they did have so prevented it spreading. I agree with you and Blackbird that sheer population density as well as the immense traffic in and out of the UK made control near enough impossible. Houseplant
We've had it good in comparison, no doubt. We still have hundreds of people arriving every day, so it very much depends on your definition of a closed border. https://www.customs.govt.nz/covid-19/more-information/passenger-statistics/ On the whole, our government has done a good job in my opinion, but I doubt the same could have been achieved in the UK due to population size and proximity to other countries. NZ government has it's detractors, there are plenty of people here whose opinions range from the response being over-the-top to downright conspiracy theorists. I'm in a small minority of members who support the governments actions on a popular hunting forum. As you can imagine, those who don't agree with how we've managed things are quite vocal. I think all of that is quite right. I think the view over here is also that your Govt has done well. 13 minutes ago, Houseplant said: those who don't agree with how we've managed things are quite vocal. Isn't that always true! 11 minutes ago, Houseplant said: there are plenty of people here whose opinions range from the response being over-the-top to downright conspiracy theorists. Plenty of those everywhere.
