chippy18
Well had been looking forward to getting out this morn, getting gear ready when phone rings. Hear the Wife chatting away and then bang she hits me with it, "just had a lovely surprise " she says ( must share with her my definition of lovely sometime). " Mum has the day to herself and thought she would spend it with us" ( oh my god no). What a shame i will miss her, i say. But she is having none of that, and makes it very clear that if i wish to carry on with my bike trips and shooting without any moaning from her then it is dinner with the outlaw. And then to makes even worse just as i was sort of getting used to the dread i get a text from Bradders letting me know he is already there. I know i should not moan as my Wife is an absolute diamond and lets me get away with murder when it comes to my Bikes and Shooting, But Why! Dead-Eyed Duck
You says that your wife is an absolute diamond, and then whinge because she's invited her mum for the day Seems to me that you are yet another selfish male. Me, me, me me, me........ As someone said, there's no 'I' in TEAM you know! A sensible approach would have been to say "Take your mum shopping for the day,and I will pay for lunch and a new negligee for you". You wouldn't have seen her for dust B) Don
starlight32
No need to put up with none of that rubbish. If you want to go out on yer bike or go have a shoot then go. Selfish or not if my in-laws are coming I make a point of not being in at all. Not that I don't like them or anything- I just can't be sitting in listening to a load of old tripe. Pedro
My mother in laws fine for about 24hrs and then drives me absolutely nuts 'cos she loves an argument and comes out with a load of cods wallop just to goad you . She did however tell the old bill that I could shoot vermin on her farm which allowed me to get my FAC. P.

Suffolk shooter
my mother in law is how shall we say it......batting for the other team  so she's sort of up for having a go at any thing really. i'd ask her along :o Bet you have all those wife/mother-in-law fantasies :o Whilst my Father outlaw shoots, my Step- outlaw is a right royal pain in the ****. Thankfully they don't come round except on the kids b'day's or if we invite them (Which trust me is probably once a year). Nothing would stop me going out shooting, regardless if they were coming round or not. That goes for anyone. I work hard all week and Friday night and the weekend are mine, therefore I do as I please to an extent. I just have to keep the wife happy (strangely enough she hates me going out, rather than being happy when I do), tough job, but somebodies got to do it. (Take a ticket and Form an orderly queue.................... ) SS

You wouldn't have seen her for dust :o Don One thing i am not is another selfish male. Maybe i was having a bit of a winge, but only in a lighthearted way. My Wife had not invited her Mum over which is what i was trying to get across. I had arranged to go shooting was ready to go when the visit was sprung on us. I actually get on very well with my in laws and on average they are with us about 3 times a month so it was not a selfish moan at her coming. And the 1 thing that there is not in our life's is 'I'. Lost Magpie
My partner wouldn't expect me to stay in and listen to her and her mam talking shopping etc, your wife's being selfish imo, if she wants to spend quality time with her mother then let her, she shouldn't rope you into it. Invite one of your mates around to talk shooting all night and insist she stays and listens, see what her response is to that.
njc110381
If it's already arranged then I'd be gone! Why should you let your mate down at the last minute because the mother in law is coming round? Spend the day shooting, hopefully get some good kills, and cook for them in the evening with the results. Everyone is happy (hopefully). LEFTY478
A mate of mine has a plaque on his front door which reads "Friends welcome anytime. Family strictly by appointment only." Says it all, really. Mind you, he's a builder and his house is what's called "an on going project" or sh1thole to you or me, so no one visits anyway.

Bradders
Must admit that I have a pretty free time of things, shooting, out on the bike, football Saturday afternoon (Addicks), but when the in-laws come round I am under virtual house arrest. Still its only a handful of times a year.
