sandspider
Long shot I think, but this finish is on my kitchen step - hard, not gloss, not a varnish I don't think. I'd like to recoat it with the same stuff, don't want to strip it and start again if I can avoid it. But I have no idea what the stuff is that's on there! Anyone able to hazard a guess? Worth a try! Thanks.

Rob85
Could it be a dark stain mixed into shellac?

sandspider
Thanks folks, will investigate the options. Had a root through the cupboards and can't find any leftover tins that match! If I do have to strip it and start again, what's a good long lasting finish, in a damp area? Cheers.
