Fox taking calf tongues

Apparently farmer reckons this fox has been in and out of the shed eating the afterbirths. At the same time eaten a couple of calf tongues.

Not heard of that before but either way i have to get over there and deal with it. :/

Day time or night time that is the question. I never have much luck in the day so would prefer to bait and take it in the night.

Blimy that a well fed fox almost portly compared to the limited personal exposure I have had with them from the scrawny Yorkshire variety !

looks almost tame to me !

what was the footage captured on ?

but echo the above chickens and game one thing but the costs to the farmer for a calf £££

The clip was sent to me on whats app its a couple of minutes shot (I think) by the farm hand. It took me longer to cut a bit out and post it on here . The farmer said it seems pretty bold coming to the sheds in the day.

Apparently its eaten two tongues as the calves were born. Both right offs.

I am trying to go tonight but the farm is waterlogged. The calf shed is across a lagoon of slurry deeper than my wellies. I have washed my truck as I need to use it in public at the weekend. I can try and go around the far side of the farm to get over but that's not much better and will not give a good shooting angle. My best bet is to try and get up on the hill overlooking the back of the sheds. Not an easy job at this time of year.

Nature can be so cruel, watched on wildlife programs hyenas and African wild dogs eating alive antelopes, their intestines hanging out but still standing.

Calves must suffer if they are alive and not still born. Can remember a farmer telling me when his calves were due to be born, if outside the magpies used to seem to know and line up on the fence or hedge and peck the pads of the feet while they were still soft.

If you can get close to him as the farmhand you can throw a camo net over him and wrestle him like the crocodile dundee guy.

Got it last night. Farm is such a swamp that I had to go in up wind. Put caller and bait out in a field, as close as I could get to the farm no response after 30 mins or so. Then spotted it on a muck heap in adjacent field over a stream but had branches obstructing. Moved to try and get around them lined up and switched on IR and it was off.

Put the caller back in the truck and made to start the walk over the other side and saw it stood in front of a water trough. Moved about 100m to the right to change the angle and give a backstop and dropped it at about 120m
