Hushpower choice

Just found out I've got good going hearing loss from misspent youth and shooting

Thinking of options as don't want to deteriorate. have eardefenders like a cyber man now.....

Ideally need quiet with range for pigeons and crows and hopefully steel shot to future proof. So either 12g or 20g. I know steel shot are fast but would still be quieter with mod

I've shot a 20g mossy pump and that was pretty quiet but handled badly

1. Give up shotgunning last resort

2. Hushpower mod to my 12g silver pigeon o/u. Has anyone got one of these modded in 12 or 20g?

3. Hushpower or atec can on my escort 12g

4. Investarm o/u hushpower but not keen on fact it handles like a piece of scaffold and prob won't fit in the cabinet

5. Don't like the mossberg pumps due to stock and poi. I'm 6 foot 2....

Not adverse to reloading as quite low volume shooting

Anyone got some sage wisdom and experience that may help?

Cheers

Ken

😂 yes wearing double ear protection of earplugs and ear defenders together helps but still doesn't stop the blast transmitting through the skull.....

The army now use skull caps for intensive shooting situations for that reason

I know a couple of the lads on here have hushpowers and the topic has prob been done to death

Mainly interested in the reloading angle and whether it's worth butchering my silver pigeon or selling it to fund the replacement option

I have never heard that before, I always thought is was the sound wave hitting your ear drum that damaged your earring hence the reason for wearing earring protection, if it is correct then a moderated gun will not help as you will still get the blast from the gun.

Yep I wasn't always a doctor and used to often just wear ear plugs and forgot a few times

It's your left ear that gets hammered as the stock protects the right one

Some folk are more susceptible to it than others it seems

I'd have looked silly with my ear cans on dancing on front of the speakers in the nightclub mind you 😆

It's the shock wave from the expanding gases leaving the barrel that's the trouble some will get transmitted from the breech to the air and by direct contact but its the shock wave that's the prob hence moderated gun would help

There’s a bloke on Facebook who has the Beretta conversion. I’ve spoke to him via message and he’s very pleased with it

i have a 20g silver pigeon,

plus points:

1, its not that long compared to a mossberg silenced

2, POA isnt that bad with a comb extension its good

3, it looks really cool and no one else has one

4, its properly quiet - movie quiet

Bad points:

1, its expensive

2, its a nightmare to clean ( especially if you go clay shooting with it a few times)

3, 20g subsonic 30g no5's are expensive

4, took a  while to convert

overall i like mine and would recommend it

I’ve got hearing loss 75% in left ear and 50% in the right, also tinnitus in both ears due to shotgun shooting without protection for years, Also I’ve worked with heavy machinery.

My hearing consultant has told me to stop shooting which is not an option to me, as I have been a shotgun and rifle shooter for over 65 years and I don’t intend to stop now. I wear hearing aids when not shooting and now use Cens ear protection when I do.

I wouldn’t say it’s expensive myself like £700 with postage for a gun a conversion you can shoot literally next to padkham and he would do there it lol I love mine best money I’ve spent

I’ve got a hushpower moss berg pump in 20g yeah it’s a bit heavy but it’s an amazing tool and makes supersonic cartridges fine without ear defenders especially so with subs.

I’ve also got a norica 3shot bolt action .410 that I’ve made a moderator for and is quiter than a mates hushpower and I love it so much but notice a huge difference in stopping power. I’d go for a 20g hushpower cracking tool! I’ve used a 12 and it’s a tank of a thing
