Put my firearms license in early March for a 1-1 variation.

Been waiting and three weeks ago I rang and asked on a Monday and they said it would be ready by Friday to send out .

Nothing has arrived so today I have been on hold for 2x 20 minute calls and no one ever answers.

My problem is I am off to Hungary start of August for roe bucks and you need a hunting license which to get you need send a picture of your firearms license. This take 7-10 days to get.

Any thoughts on what to do , was thinking a special delivery letter as they have ignored my two emails to them.

This is Devon, Cornwall & Dorset police merged together.

Just spoke to them after my third call waiting for 18 mins ,,, it’s on someone’s desk and will be looked at tomorrow..

Fingers crossed

I appreciate a 4 hour round trip is excessive, but offer to collect from site so you have it "same day" ahead of your hunting trip?

May have to do that if I haven’t received it by next week.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update on this - called again today 6.5 weeks after being told it was done and on the desk to be posted only to be told today nothing has been done and it’s on the variation man’s desk!

They said only received it in June despite me posting it in March…

Guess I will be waiting a few more weeks or months to get it back.

Wont be doing anymore variation one for ones till renewal now.

Leicester police used to be good with turnaround times 1-3 weeks for a 1 for 1 , 2-4 week's to add another gun on but now you are looking at 3-4 month's for a 1 for 1 due to staffing levels and holidays

Went to pick some bit's up yesterday from Southams and their RFD said Northampton are looking at 1 year for a renewal and 2 for a grant!!!!!.

It looks like all police forces are about the same now, makes you think it could be deliberate attempt to get people to give up on the idea of having firearms

Still not got mine back and sent 4 emails but never get a reply and they tell you any old poop on the phone to get rid of you.

I am sure it’s deliberate. If any private owned company dealt like this it wouldn’t be tolerated.

You may have hit the nail on the head as most of the rank and file police think members of the public should not have guns.

Well trying to get the email would be hard to do.

Had an email reply this morning ( despite my last various ones going unanswered) and they say I’ll have mine back by this time next week and the delay has been because they do spot checks on licenses now ( so guess mine was spot checked).

What does a ‘spot check’ consist of?

Before being posted certificates must go through a process of spot checking, I would estimate that it will be with you by the end of next week.

The above is a copy and paste from the email. It’s a firearms not shotgun fyi.

No idea what they are.

Me neither. I think it’s just a fobbing off method. I’d love them to explain what a ‘spot check’ consists of as I doubt they know.
If it smells like bullpoop it probably is.
Infuriates me; none of the licensing team are fit for purpose in my opinion.

Ive had my firearms for many years and had and still have various calibres and they used be excellent but then something changed and it went to poop and thankfully I should get it now but won’t do any variations till the next renewal

Well I have done a Google search for anything related to a ‘spot check’ and the issue or renewal of a SGC or FAC and nothing.

I would send a polite email asking them what is a ‘spot check’ ?

But only after you have received the renewal - otherwise could be a further delay..........
