BP medication times.

Many years ago I was invited to a medicine review to check whether or not I understood about why I take what.

I was advised to change the timing of taking my blood pressure tablets from AM to PM, as I go to bed, due to a trial that had been conducted and found to be beneficial to patients. Also to take my statin at the same time.

Recently in the chemist I asked the pharmacist is this still applicable, to which she seemed surprised, statin yes, but why take BP medication when your going to sleep, I agreed with her. But when I came home I googled it and it still holds true.

Has anyone else been suggested to take theirs at night time ?

Only told to take my statin at night. Statins work better at night when the liver is in a more relaxed state.

Take all of my B.P. meds in the morning. Time of day makes no difference as they build up in your system and take quite a while to come out of your system if you should stop taking them. I was told that by the hospital.

Wouldn't work for me as my liver is on overdrive in the evening 🍺

I was told that the statin should be taken in the evening.  The BP stuff (ramipril and felodipine) can be any time.  The felodipine is a 'slow release' pill and the ramipril is a long term effect.  I have a very low dose of both daily.  I am not allowed grapefruit (or grapefruit juice) and have to stop the statin when I take colchicine as they don't get on well together.

Colchicine (a 'when needed' treatment for gout) can be taken any time, but better (easier on the digestion) after a meal, and max daily dosages are not to be exceeded and not for more than 3 days, with at least 5(?) days gap before retaking.  I am OK with colchicine, but I believe it doesn't suit everyone.

I follow what my consultant and my doctors told me to do.  In all those years they have changed my statin to Rosuvastatin, they have changed one of my BP pills for another that did not give me an allergic reaction.  They did at one point change my dosage from 4 tablets of Metformin to 2 tablets per day and then later changed it back to four???Ihad a review just over a year ago and they changed one of my pills and I have been fine for the rest of the year.  Years ago when statins were getting bad reviews; I spoke with both my consultant and my GP about what best to do?  Both said better to take them than not.  I stuck with that until they changed as above.  They dont know all the full answers for medication, they can only try it and see how you individually respond - but you are in a partnership with them. BBOb, aye might well be LOL. that was what they told me at first too but then the consultants consultant said you shouldn take metformin late at night or you end going to the loo after bedtime and possibly even later as well.  She was bang on the button and I think why they cahnged them to 2 aday.  Now I'm back on 4 a day 2 first thing am and with my tea at 5/6 o.clock and doing well.  The only other one that gives me heart burn is Doxazosin which I take with Sodium Flynn at bed time.  If I take the Doxazosin first I get acid reflux during the night, but not so the other way round.  OOOHHHHit's a miracle as Toyah used to sing:whistling:  Have a good night boys and girls:good:

Aye its a Mystery - when will they all decide what is to be and what should be for the better of all mankind - and women too.  I just keep asking my gp questions.  I would ask myu consutlant so much more but I haven't seen him since just before covid!  They have changed the Diabetic clinic to something else now and wee have to make do with an out in the community specialist nurse service.  Aye well tried that over ayear nad could not help but feel like a wee boy coming from meetings with the nurse.  At my age I don't need to be told I am doing it all wrong (which means all the health staff prior to this one is also wrong!)  So I've been spending more time with my GP who as it happens specializes in Diabetes) and she has been really good with me.  She has referred me in the past 3 months to the diabetic clinic (wherever that is now) but she cannot guarantee it will be before the start of the new year -if even then!  I am having issues with blood supply to both legs and at times, horrendous neuropathy pains and itching and my lower legs at times are an unhealthy shade of dark red. Walking helps me a lot but I can't spend all day walking!

But I live in hope that someday soon Humza Useless will manage to make the NHS in Scotland work as it should, don't all please start rolling around on the floor laughing your heads off, for I know a little secret about the NHS......simply this, for all the efforts of staff and doctors specialists and so on, we are all in the same boat.  One which isn't delivering a full cargo load to its conumers.  Shame on teh service not the individuals who can only do what they are allowed to, shame on the echelons of managers who work their butts off to try and make it work but do not realise they are a big part of the problem.  Too many ideas staff without a hope in hell of all getting their own way.

Sorry folks, this turned into a rant and I apologise, I'm normally a very strong person with great hope for all our futures but not so at present. |Thank you all for reading'
