this type of statement from cpsa that semi and pump banned for safety reasons is a gift for the anti shooting brigade.this will be turned into the organisation saying they are dangerous and then lead to a further push to ban private ownership of any guns.

Can't speak for trap but I thought the major reason people shooting skeet used semi autos was health problems that appeared with old age/post accidents. CPSA want to watch how they are discriminating against people.

The only danger that I have witnessed on a trap layout concerned spent cartridge cases laying on a concrete floor. The gun moving from peg 5 to peg 1, stood on a cartridge case which rolled under his foot, causing him to sit on the floor rather rapidly. I used a semi auto for all of my clay shooting in the 60's and 70's. I had a Remmie 1100 trap and Skeet, plus a 1/2 choke barrel. They were used for Sporting,  Trap and Skeet.  Mind you, they were 32 gram Winchester AA cartridges. It was acceptable to move pegs with a cartridge in the gun, the gun was pointing skywards all of the time, except when shooting. Moving from peg 5 to 1 required the gun to be empty. We had cartridge stands at each peg then, so it was a simple matter to put 5 cartridges in the tray. When the 5th cartridge went in, you fired 2 shots, the gun was then empty ready for the move.

Nobody should be allowed to own, let alone actually use, any sort of gun that I don't personally either own or personally approve of. Blah, blah, blah. Happily for me I own two Browning Auto 5 including a scare trap stocked one in 12 bore and one Browning Auto 5 in 16 bore. My membership of the Shooting Sub Chapter of the Holier Than Thou Society being sadly cancelled because of that.
