beardy
When you think about it a bullit is doing 3000 odd feet per second it dosent take long for bullit to travel that distance, Dont think any one should take that kind of shot its not what i would call sporting. I always find that the stalk is the best part of shooting deer trying to get close enough for that all important 1 shot 1 kill . just my thoughts dont want to upset any one. all the best beardy
fortune
This sort of shooting is irresponsible unethical and totally unnecessary. OK they’ve got the right equipment and the right knowledge and it is used in a correct manner BUT this sort of shooting is only done to show HOW GOOD I AM. If these animals have to be culled then it could be done at sensible ranges which would minimise the potential of a gut shot as seen in one of the other video clips that these guys have produced. Grow up.

SAVAGE HMR
I can see the point most of you guys are making about the potential risk of maiming an animal but at the end of the day you could just as easily maim an animal at 50 yards. It's hard to decide what takes more skill, stalking a deer to 50 yards or sniping to 1000 yards, both take a great deal of skill. These guys are obviously very good at what they do as the video's show but more importantly they are American! If anyone here succeeded in telling an American what he could and could not do with a gun I'd be more than very surprised. A man raised in a country where guns come before god and government isn't going to be interested in someone else's opinion on firearms and their 'safe use'
Dave-G
Long range seems to be their thing, if we do anything frequently we generally get better at it. The Quarry was resting and unlikely to take a step that could not be anticipated. It dropped cleanly from where I'm sitting which suggests he knows his stuff. Perhaps he used to be a sniper. Not seen a retical like that before, anyone know what it is and can explain the lower crosshairs for me?
deadeye ive
Perhaps he used to be a sniper. Not seen a retical like that before, anyone know what it is and can explain the lower crosshairs for me? I'll take a educated guess..........it's a Leupold with a custom ballistic reticle fitted by Premier .It's looks to me like this Chaps done his homework on the range and he already knew that the lower dot was his indicator for a 1000 yds .On the subject of long range I'd say well done ,that country looks flat and open providing no cover for a close range stalk . Alot of novice deerstalkers with very little firearm experience or range practice can do just as much maiming at close range .

I'd agree, zeroed for 300yards with dots representing each 100 yard, 700 hundred being the second cross hair for easy quick reference

With the right equipment it is definitely challenging the shooter and whether it should be done on live quarry or not is I guess something for his concience. One things for sure there have been longer shots taken on people in Iraq and afghanistan which is quite a sobering thought when everyone here is thinking about the deer's welfare. I'd hazard a guess that anyone who has shot at a rabbit with a .22lr at over 100 yards will have had a similar risk of injuring the quarry
Highlander
Sport? I don't think so. Antelope in the USA that have been introduced/bred for shooting and then to be shot like a static target on a shooting range what the hells the point? I'm afraid the yanks just don't get it and probably never will.
henry d
Stalking is stalking, that was just shooting............admittedly very good shooting, but I`d have been impressed just as much with a paper target getting hit. Each to their own
fortune
Even in America it isn’t looked on as anything other than showmanship shooting. If the animals have to be culled they could be moved towards a waiting gun. It’s like the so called sports shooting estates in America where hybrid pigs/boar and deer are breed in pens and shooters drive up to the outside of these pens and shoot them. The animal can then be loaded into the back of the vehicle so that the hunter can take it home and show the neighbours and family what a big man he is. Might just as well go out, walk up to a sheep in a field and shoot that.
