RIP Dodger.

Recommended Posts

Hi gang.

My 15 yr old beddy x whippet had a stroke today. He was crashing into everything so straight to the vet and had him pts.

I got him at 2 yr old and he's been a real good dog. I'm gutted. I've had 22 dogs over the years and it never gets any easier when you lose one.

This is the first time in 55 years there has not been a dog in the house. Trouble is i'm an old boy now and not sure if i should get another one.

  I'll think about it.

Firstly, sorry for your loss.  You are right, it doesn't get easier, but the right thing remains the right thing when they are beyond further help.

On another, I was in much the same position (I 'should' outlast the dog, but no guarantees) and what I did was to ask various family members (who are 'dog friendly') if they would take over in the event that something happened to me.  I'm glad to say that three willing volunteers (all of whom would make good homes) volunteered, so that with a selection of backup plans - I now have another dog - and the comfort of knowing that should something happen to me - she will be looked after by people she knows.

So sorry to hear this.I think you already know the answer regarding getting another but maybe spend a little time thinking about a dog more suitable for your needs. There are thousands of good dogs out there that need homes through no fault of their own so obviously being a Dog lover can you feel comfortable denying one such a home? Go take a look with an open mind and one will find you.Good luck.

So sorry for your loss.

At 63 years of age ( wife is a tad older ! ) we have just got our last ESS puppy, we already have a 7 year old ESS.

We gave this some thought as if he lasts as long as our last dog I will be almost 80 !

My fishing club President had this scenario and his solution was " if they want my money when I am gone they must also have my dogs ! "

I’m So sorry for your loss it’s never ever easy, I will be lost when my Bernie goes.

I have always said that when our pets go, they will not be replaced.

But as all of us dog owners know, we will most of the time end up getting another as we enjoy the companionship, loyalty and just having the dog hair and muddy paw prints on everything

Sad news indeed. I had to do the same to my dog. Read the poem, The Last Battle

Sorry to hear this.
I lost my Louie earlier this year and still missing him.
Not planning to get another in the foreseeable future as our circumstances have changed since we got him, but if I did it would maybe be an older rescue dog .
That way if he does outlive me, at least I'll have given him a shot at a better life he probably would have missed out on otherwise.
