There is a "Multitool Forum" that has a dating guide for early Leathermans. https://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=5877.0

I have a fairly early UK import, but I never used it that much as the tools that were used 'end on' such as screwdrivers had a habit of closing on your fingers.  The later ones had locked blades .......... but then the halfwits in the UK introduced rules making life more difficult to carry those.

I now have (and fairly regularly carry) a supposedly UK friendly version which has no 'knife' - but with the UK leglislation referring to locking blades and a screwdriver bit still being a blade - it seems a bit of a grey area.

Take a close look at it !!! It has a sharp edge,,,, ie A MINI BLADE ! 😡

So I'm presuming it's for cutting thread or stripping small wire,,,, or cutting fishing line 🤔

Try it out and stop complaining !!! 🤷‍♂️🤓🤪

Looked at mine (early PST version).  It has no notches like that.  Mine was a Japan production version made circa 1985-89 as per PST Chronology No 5 in the timeline here https://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=5877.0

I do have a wire stripper 'feature' on my Rebar EDC version.  It's a V shaped notch with ground edges.

My Leatherman has the sharpened notch as in the pic in previous post but my Swiss Army Knives all have the small notch as in the OP and they have always been described as wire strippers. I've never used them as one as I just use the blade.

I still have the SAK my Dad gave me over 50 years ago, that has the small notch on it.

😜😘😂

Seriously,,,, what else could it be for ? Considering the age of it and new 'models' improve as time goes on 🤷‍♂️

It can't be a letter/parcel opener, as there would be a blunt point to insert said articles, and the screwdriver would get in the way. Have you tried snipping off a bit of small cord or thread ? 🤔

so what is it for.....clever clogs genius

I think it is just a 'nail notch' to assist in opening the blade.  These are the notches on my (more recent being around 15 - 10 years old) Rebar

🤣

Well, we are trying to help 🤭🤣

But, like I said previously,,,, that notch is for cutting/stripping something, as it has a sharp bevelled edge. No fingernails, bottle tops or ring pulls please 🙏 🤪

Does it Ditchy?  The photo looks like a plain notch, no bevelled or 'sharp' edges.
