Cheese boards and cheese knives

Recommended Posts

This is the first of 4 cheese boards and associated cheese knives that will be Xmas gifts for family. They will be a surprise as no-one in my family ever look at PW. They think I`m looking at tractor porn for hours on end.:w00t:

The boards were supplied by the lady who did the laser engraving so I take no credit for that, but I`m very pleased with them and they are from olive wood and will be treated with olive oil prior to being wrapped up, so not shown at their best at present.

I have shown the first 4 of 16 cheese knives to be completed. The ones shown are from Zebrano wood and the others are from Zebrano, Elm and Olive wood. They have yet to receive a final polish. The handles are purposely made different shapes and profiles.

The olive wood gave off a beautiful olive aroma whilst turning but proved quite difficult to get a smooth finish on them.

I`ve been thinking how to present the knives and the only solution that I`ve come up with so far are velvet purse type thingies (as photo). I may well think of some sort of wooden rack to house them. Got a bit of time to think between now and Xmas. No doubt Shambam1961 could suggest something so I`m, open to any suggest in that regard.

I only hope the recipients like them (I`m sure they will) and get as much pleasure from them as I have making them. It is so therapeutic.

Thanks for looking.

Excellent work Chris and well done 👍

Have you thought of displaying the utensils on a simple stand, made of Zebrano wood.

Very easy to make and will match the handles.

Something along the the same lines as photo below.

Brilliant, I knew that you would come up with a solution.

I’ll see what I can make along those lines.

Many thanks

No problem Chris, and I think the stand will show the utensils off very nicely 👍

I have seen the shape of the utensils cut into a separate board with a router, but I think the stand is the better choice.

Have you checked if a magnet will stick to your utensils, as certain grades of stainless steel will.

If so, you could attach button magnets into a stand, to show the utensils off.

Make a prototype first, out of scrap wood, and you can see how it looks, and if you need to make changes, before making the Zebra wood stands .

I’m sure you’ll come up with a very nice stand to show the utensils off, and look forward to seeing the finished items 👍

Thanks again Kevin, some brilliant ideas.

The router option is beyond my capabilities and also lack of tooling, but the magnet idea is a good one. I do agree that to show the utensils off would be best. I’ll check out the magnet option later today.

Got my little grey cell working overtime now.

Thanks again.

Looking great OB 👍 It's a tricky one re the storage, but I do think that they need to be visible, so it would be easy to choose the correct 'tool' 🤷‍♂️😉

Yes you’re right and as Shambam has come up with some good ideas, that’s definitely the way forward.

You`re right there. I`ve decided that magnets are the way to go so I propose to use 4 small round magnets set into some form of stand. I`ve just checked that the stainless utensils work well on a magnet so will be ordering the magnets later.

Watch this space.
