Problem is, right now, the Conservative badge is toxic for so many - reform are more likely to capture disappointed Labour voters. I really don't think that's a problem. I believe it's a very good thing. The Conservatives can't be trusted. If some of their MPs want to move across to reform I'd vote for them, depending who they are (JRM, Suella Braveman ect). But I'll not be voting for the Conservatives in the short to medium future, they'd have to prove they'd changed and not more smoke and mirrors. The UK needs reform, at the moment they're are only hope of injecting some common sense and decency back into the UKs politics and our way of life. JohnfromUK
Rachel Reeves is said to be 'disappointed'. Why? It is exactly what she set up by raising the costs of employment. It all seems to be going true to form, and we have been assured they have made a 'really good start'. I'm amazed how quickly they have ruined what promised to be the beginnings of a bit of an slow up turn and turned it into what looks like a spiral of rising inflation, rising taxation and rising unemployment so quickly. Rayner's plan to build 1.5M 'homes' suddenly and quickly will cause massive inflation in the building sector - but I can't see any plans for new infastructure, sewage works, reservoirs, power stations, transport etc to meet the needs of all these extra houses - and employment is in decline, so many of the houses (if they are ever built) will go to people living off the taxpayer (again). While I get some of the points raised in all of that, some of but particularly the largest Businesses have taken the mickey out of the population over the last couple of decades. They have exploited the poor policys made by the Conservatives and instead of training UK workers for skilled jobs, have imported foreign workers. Also under paying their low skilled workers by importing workers from abroad, ultimately it has led to less jobs and higher unemployment for the UK population, suppression of wages and much lower living standards for all but the very wealthy. A good gauge is to look across the pond, wealth per capita before 2008 was largely the same as us. The uk working class has fallen so far behind an average US worker is now 20k per year every year better off than their British counterparts. All that said, the way to lift living standards, is not to make business poorer.
Mungler
Inflation up : check All we need is interest rates to go up and I get to call ‘house’ having predicted flatlining economy, record low business confidence, worst Xmas on record, economy in recession (I thought end of Q1 next year but we’ve already entered technical recession) and now increase in inflation. If we get a jump in unemployment we’re in real trouble. And we’re not even a year in.

Mungler
I think Labour just recognise that anyone over 60 is less likely to vote for them and will be dead sooner i.e. no future memory of mistreatment under labour. Pretty ruthless and cynical. That has to be the only reason to cut the pensioner heating allowance and screw over the WASPI pensioners. I still can’t get my head round that and sending £500m to Ukrainian farmers and £50m to the new Syrian regime. Well, it’s Labour - never been good with the economy or tax payer money. And with that I still blame the conservatives for putting the country in this position.

While I agree with most of that. I find Labours dishonesty no more or less than the Conservatives, who for 14 years blatantly lied to us with no intention of keeping their promises. From immigration, to a failure to honour the Brexit referendum, David Camerons "big society" that apparently "we're all in together". Covid lock downs with rules for thee, but not for me. I could fill a thread with them. What the UK needs is drastic political reform, an injection of common sense, some national pride the country can unite under and a slashing of red tape and lowering of taxes to take the chock hold from the countrys neck. None of that will be delivered by Labour or the Conservatives. Edited December 19 by 12gauge82
