Fil Posted Friday at 16:58 Report Share Posted Friday at 16:58 TVP were 6 months overdue with my shotgun certificate a few years ago. What I didn't notice at the time was they dated the new certificate from the day it ran out rather than the day they printed it effectivley robbing me 6 months worth of "ticket time." When I realised it I was a bit annoyed but never said anything. But I certainly will in the future if they raise the cost of a certificate to silly amount. I will make sure they don't get away with any mistakes if I'm paying them hundreds for the service.

You must consider your shooting to be just a hobby then, not a way of life as it is for some of us.

Good shot? Posted Saturday at 09:01 Report Share Posted Saturday at 09:01 (edited) There is no justification to be forced to pay £500 + whatever the Doctors will eventually want and I find it difficult to understand anyone saying they would willingly pay £500 for a renewal on a shooting forum post bearing in mind one of the reasons for any charge is the concern for public safety. There are many. devices being used to reduce the number of firearms or any other commodity in public ownership, cost to reduce is always a good one to use against " the working (or retired) man". As an aside, I doubt we will be able to pay it at £2 a week.😏 Edited Saturday at 09:11 by Good shot?
scarecrow243 Posted Saturday at 10:36 Report Share Posted Saturday at 10:36 why on earth would you pay more for your certificates when the price was already put up a few years ago supposed to cover the cost of wages and paper work and then what did they do have less staff closed firearm offices so it takes longer to get certificates and up here they are now only available on the phone between 9am and 12 noon

Good shot?
The main reason for certification is the need to protect the public from guns being in the wrong hands and that should contribute to the bulk of the cost to provide that service, not the licence holder or applicant. Also how would such a charge help to bring new people into the sport. I can, in your case (Rim fire) understand your acceptance of such an increase but it is far from what is actually going on with the authorities, or anyone else asking for such a charge. scarecrow243
years ago before the price hike on certificates we were able to walk into the firearms office to hand in paper work or ask questions now the office is closed and they only accept phone calls between 9am and 12 noon so the price hike made things worse not better

Shooters were moaning about the cost of cartridges when I started shooting. Nothing has changed, except cartridges are cheaper now. The first ones I remember were 10 shillings and six pence per 25 for Grand Prix. That is 51 1/2p. That was less than 20 boxes for Dad’s £10 weekly gross wage, before tax. Not bought any 20 bore for a few years now as rarely use it. How many boxes can you buy for the U.K. average weekly wage? I buy relatively expensive Supreme Game 12 bore for £408/1000. I believe he average wage is now around £600/week? That means about 60 boxes for a week’s gross wage. One third the price of the early 1960’s when my Dad’s wage was £10.
