The picture and printed report to jo public would be a concern, it certainly sounds worrying.

Or they could have put;-

Today the police raided a home after reports from locals that a man had been bragging down the local pub that he had a collection of air rifles and an illegal stun gun. When the police raided the house they found 7 air rifles and a number of air pistols none of which were illegal. But also found a stun gun that comes under section 5 firearm law.

They arrested the nutter fined him £5000 for illegally held fire arms chucked him in prison for 2 years and destroyed the rest of his collection.

But that doesn't sound very exiting does it ???

I read this as the firearm was a stun gun and the rest were airguns

From the BBC News article;

"David Walker, 38, was charged with possession of a weapon, firearm and ammunition for a firearm after a police raid on his home on Alexandra Street, Thorne, Doncaster."

The ammunition was probably just pellets , and the stun gun one of those lighter affairs that you can buy on ebay , that give you little more than a fright.

Looking at his collection,  he's just a bit of a gun nut , that liked collecting stuff.

Very likely, they will probably count each pellet to make it sounds worse than it is, 2457 bullets ??? but would likely be 4 and a half tins of Eley Wasp.

That's the way it looks to me dougy.

The trouble is , the general public don't know that , and after reading the article,  they think he's a menace to society.

Edited to add.

You should see the hysterical fiasco at my work when they find a few empty 12g carts in a bin.

The police get the first call , then two officers turn up , and shrug their shoulders because they haven't got a clue what they are.

How can they seize the legally owned weapons? (Hate that term, they're airguns and knives!)

They have no trouble seizing legally held firearms from decent folk. So this is a minor issue to the police.

Mind you if they numpty does have a stun gun or tazer (we don't know which) I wouldn't leave home with a plastic spoon.

It just seems wrong if they're legally held.

It may be totally wrong, but I'm sure you can be banned from owning any air rifle/pistol or any other similar article able to fire  projectiles. In this person's case I think that maybe the case. Although you may say he's not guilty of any offence involving those he had a possible section 5 which is a BIG no no.

We all (or a few on PW do) of someone who was charged with similar, but I don't think they so lenient. Someone may shed more light on the sentence on this one.

Just checked and yes you can be banned from owning an air rifle.

I don’t think that’s correct. How can he be ‘banned’?  Who could ban him and what is there in place to prevent him from buying another air rifle? 🤷‍♂️

Nothing is put in place, daft  but I'm 99% sure it's correct. You get banned from driving yet nothing in place to stop you driving. I just  think the sentence is more serious.

I'd put a link up but on my little phone and it's awkward.

What about the knives? Surely you can't be banned from owning knives otherwise you couldn't own cutlery!
