This is MARCO with his breeder and trainer...!!! I didn't know you could do that - have a dog trained by someone else and then take them on, I mean . I thought you had to do all the training yourself. Does it take long for him to get used to your commands? It must cost a fortune over and above the cost of the dog, surely? highseas
yes but if you cant train a flea then its handy to buy a traind dog IMO
gdunc
That's a proper looking springer Hawkeye. Did you get a chance to see the trainer work him to see the commands etc. he's used to? Sure once he settles in he'll be a keen worker for you

I was looking for a lab on the Internet and found this springer for sale the chap had 7 dogs and he had reared and trained Marco from a pup first time i saw him was on Tuesday.....i think i robbed him because i didn't pay much more than you would pay for a good pup.. That's a proper looking springer Hawkeye. lurcherboy
That's a good looking acquistion Hawkeye and he is obviously very pleased to see you judging by the first picture I have never trained a gundog mainly because I'm a tithead/busy/short tempered but the best thing I did was to gain two fully trained ones and get advice on how to keep them keen by the owners and NTTF. The only thing I could add is to be consistent in every thing you do with him. Lovely markings BTW LB

hawkeye
Well it had to happen sooner than later i was getting to go stir crazy with not having been pigeon shooting since i got Marco. So last Wednesday loaded the motor up with all the gear and at 7.30am next morning was on the road. Got to a field on one of my farms where kdubya had seen a **** load of birds, anyway got set up under the only tree in the hedge less than 100yds from my motor parked on the road side (narrow country road) about 2 tractors per hour use it. Had one or two come into the decoys no problem most of the time they were coming from behind. Had a couple down one was a runner so decided to see if Marco would do the trick. He had just been laid in the hide no problem which i thought was great as it was the first time he had been in one. Sent him out he casts left then right and works his way at top speed across the field but when he gets the scent its straight in for the pick up.. Now this could be the tricky bit as i knew he picked pheasant and rabbit no problem this was the result ....... a couple more good retrieves... and the last i think he likes doing it ... I have to admit I'm over the moon with him but i need to spend more time training myself on how to work him.. Forgot to say ended the day with 18 pigeons 2 ferals and 3 crows.. :good:

ESS
beauty of a dog mate / love the brown head / no mask......v.v. similar to mine can i ask why the breeder/trainer sold him on.........it takes a hell of a lota work to fully train a gundog , or does he train a few in stages to sell on for more £££'s / not necessarily cause you stated you paid not much more than a damn good pup. ESS fully trained usually sell @ around £600+.........I love this breed and admit ur dog is a beauty, i wunta got shut at all. keep us posted on the good work, and don't let him outa ur sight Hope u bond really well v.v.soon. regards / best wishes Ian
hawkeye
Have you heard the saying !! sticks like **** to a blanket !! thats what he is like never leaves my side just cannot do enought to please.. Abbi you could not spoil him any more than i do he's as soft as you know what.. till it comes to work then he loves it cannot get enough.. ESS he sold it on as he had 7 dogs and gets them trained up then passes them on he has 2 cocker bitches about 10 months old he is working on at the moment.. The bloke that trained him said he had a mate who had kennels and lived about 10 miles from me and he came up here quite regular. His mates name didnt ring a bell at the time but when i was filling in Marco's kennel club form to change ownership this mate of his was the breeder so marco has come back to the noth east where he was born.. LB he comes in like a steam train some times think he isnt going to stop he's going that fast...
