Cranfield
I was the one that bought an 8 track player for my car, because I was told that the reproduction was superior to cassettes. Then I bought a Betamax video player, because I was told the picture was much better than VHS. Last year I bought an HD DVD/video combo player/recorder, because I was told that it was more widely accepted than Blu-Ray. :(

Big_Sam
The problem with this kind of thing is that public acceptance in hardly ever based on facts..... In the end, the name won: 'Blu-Ray' sounds better than HD-DVD. DAB....now that was a flop!
Mungler
That 2 star petrol conversion you had done to your Toyota Surf must still smart.
Markio
If it makes you feel any better i was under the impression HD-DVD was the one to go for too, but then i am a bit thick. I jest. :( Anyway, i still have and use a VCR. P.S. Mung, i though you typed Toyota Smurf, now THAT is funny.

Dr W
When did Blu-Ray beat HD DVD? As far as I'm aware the jury is still out unless you know something I don't?
Cranfield
Most major Retailers have announced that they will only be stocking Blu-Ray equipment and and major Film Studios will only be making Blu-Ray DVD's in future. Its also strongly rumoured that Toshiba will shortly cease to support the HD DVD system.
dunganick
Blue ray won mainly (or appears to be) on the following two points: PS3 Warner Bros dropping HD DVD Ironically, lots of people into home cinema run HD DVD over Blue ray for a range of reasons. LEFTY478
Sony Inc got their corporate fingers well and truely burnt in the Betamax/VHS battle years ago... And they don't seem to have forgotten the consequences of backing the wrong 'un. Winning the PR battle is key; don't worry (too closely) about achieving technical superiority, get the name right and all the pieces will fall into place.
