Shooting Injury

I've had 3 lessons and nowhave been out to buy a gun, but in between my final lesson and buy a gun i developed a muscular injury starting in my right shoulderand now progressing to my neck. This came a couple of days after my final shoot where i also managed to rack off about 75 shot in about 45 minutes (not sure if thats quick) but felt it to me.

I have seen the doctor if anyone asks...

But has anyone experienced the same sort of thing from shooting, especially when starting out...?

is there also something im doing wrong maybe not holding the the stock in my shoulder correctly?

This could be due to you not being used to the recoil as well as poor gun fit. As it sounds like you are new to the sport, it may well be a combination of the above plus not mounting correctly.

I also experienced a similar thing with one particular gun of mine until I got it fitted. It normally happened after being out all day either in the field or on the clays a day or two after. It was caused by me leaning my head over the comb rather than it sitting straight onto the stock. Once I got the gun cast to fit me, I have never had the problem since.

Other injuries I have had is mis mounting the gun onto the bi-cep rather than into the shoulder, result one big mother of a bruise.

Similar thing happened when crouched in aboat on the marsh and not being able to swing the gun properly onto a goose, pulled trigger whilst using 3.5" cartridges and even with a semi auto got a kick to the chest which resulted in me squeezing another round off and doing it again. That hurt!!!!

The old mis mounting in the cold and getting a whack across the cheek with the stock or nose when the gun isn't in the shpulder properly has happened once or twice.

Get the gun fitted, practise dry mounting the gun and use 28 gram loads until you get the hang of it.

when i first had a go with a shotgun it smashed my cheek bone so many times in the end every shot i was taking i was tensing up to take away the pain from my cheek teeth gums and jaw ... The week after i had a great bruce on my face

And because you tensed the muscles it made it even worse. Thats exactly what I did when I first started shooting on a corporate day whilst using a borrowed side by side game gun with a metal butt plate. It hurts ten times worse.

"scoped" myself with an air rifle once, and my mate shot me in the leg with the same rifle. We were young and thick at the time. Used a different pair of gloves to my normal ones a while back, they were slippery and caused a double discharge on my sbs which gave me a good sized bruise.

Was walking down a slippery slope carrying a rifle and slipped. Sacrificed myself to save the rifle and gave myself a fearsome grapefruit sized bruise on my ****. Gun was ok though :hmm:

A friend of mine was carrying his O\U over his shoulder and it snaped shut stepping over a small creek and traped his ear between the chamber and action. I have never seen so much blood ! And another mate detached both his retina after a shot. He was off work as he had blured vision for a year and cant take the risk of shooting again as its likely to reoccour.
