Mungler
Okay then, so we are back and what a good trip it was. Firstly, a huge thank you to the people I went with for making the trip for me - I don't think I stopped smiling. Secondly, a big thank you to Frank Ile of Basswood Sporting Agency for giving it the full 101% and for going the extra yard to make the trip work. I will put some anonymous magnolia piccies up as I know some will want to keep their privacy. The Lodge where we were staying: The end of the Day 1: The view out of the Lodge front door on Day 2 - oh yes, it snowed last night Scenery and stuff: Day 3 and the hunting club: The bad boy (or rather large naughty girl) I shot is in there somewhere As soon as the formalities were over (hats off, toasts and my getting a caning) it was down to business It didn't take them long to turn everything that was shot into this: I will keep it short and sweet for now so it's not too much of a trudge to plough through. Dunkield
Mungler, Don't mention it, oh you didn't Seriously though, hopefully you can appreciate the randomness of driven boar drives, you get hot pegs and cold pegs, and they are never the ones you think they are. Having had way more then my fair share of the latter - I have the perfect excuse to go back next year I also think you now see why I am very selective about who I shot with, not just for the days but the socialising time as well. Another great trip, I am glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for making the right decision, imagine how gutted you would have been today if you hadn't. miffy
one of the long walks to pegs Weren't they ALL long walks to the peg.... and a couple of serious climbs thrown in as well. It was an amazing trip and the company wasn't too bad either. Perhaps we should do this as an annual PW event
Mungler
Did you use your Sect-1 Beretta? If so, how did it perform? I used the S1 Extrema2 with Brenneke solid slugs. It was massively inaccurate over 30 yards with the normal barrel (1/4 choke with just a bead on the end). The one I shot was at 30 yards and hit right in the heart. Next time I will take a rifle or get a rifled barrel for the Extrema2 and get a red dot sight on it.
Baldrick
If you might be making it a regular event, I'd definitely go down the rifle route. Like you, I found the Brenneke slugs pretty disappointing, both through smooth and rifled barrels. I use a .30-06 for boar now, although using a .470NE gave some pretty final results. You really can't beat a rifle with a low-mag scope.
duckdog
Why do they cane you anyway? My dad went once and he had to lie over a shot boar why the smacked his **** with a stick! Spaniel
Now thats something which i have in my head todo myself one day.. I have no idea about Boar shooting but is it SG or Riffle, did you take your own and what paper work did you have to complete if you did take your own gun abroad etc Sorry for all the questions just interested in some more details Cheers Ian

Dunkield
Spaniel, you can use rifle or shotgun, obviously a rifle will be better if they are at a distance. We met relatively wealthy local shooters this time and those who could afford them had rifles with low mag scopes. It isn't that hard taking guns abroad, BAA made it hard work bringing them back, but that is because 2 trips arrived back at the same time, and they also because they are understaffed/useless. Your best bet is to google for sporting agents and have a look at their sites, that should answer most of the common questions

al4x
looks like an awesome trip, guess with the guns issue its just a shame its that little bit too far to drive.
Dunkield
It's not that onerous, the best bet if you are frustrated by it, is to hire a gun at the other end, that way you breeze through customs and get to spend extra time in airport bars
Mungler
Court in session: Sentence passed: Miffy ducked out of his caning. He said it wouldn't be right, not without his leather chaps and biker's hat.
