Lighter carts in semi

Hi,

I tried a 21g Hull CompX in my new Urika2 after only putting about 50 odd 28 gram carts through it and it nearly cycled it.

Despite what the gun shop said <quote> semi-auto's don't like 28 gram eley firsts </quote> I found mine cycles them fine.

I am confident it would cycle 24 gram carts now and remain hopeful it'll do 21's in time.

Suspect there will be variations even between the same model of gun so a case of suck it and see.

Best regards

Funny you should mention Hull, me and a mate were doing a round of clays at the weekend and I was using my Xtrema with Ely first 28g and it was all fine. Mate had some 28g Hull 65mm carts and was blaming these for his poor round, so I took a couple off him to prove it was him and not the carts and found they would not cycle. Went back to the eleys and all was fine.

So I will second what said above that Hull might not....

I have a nine year old 391 12 bore it cycles Hull comp X 21 gram with no problems. My wifes 391 20 bore will not always cycle 21 gram lyvales but it is brand new less than 250 cartridges through it.

Could just be that your wife's gun needs a bit more breaking in before it will work with the lighter stuff.

As far as older autos like the 303 not cycling, I wonder if it is simply because a 21g cart was unthought of, let alone catered for in those days, whereas newer guns like the 391 and Benelli range have been designed with ultra low gas pressure/recoil in mind.

Wonderful things modern autos. It's a shame they are so maligned in some circles (and this is coming from a born-again old English s/s addict!).

Have you considered a Benelli Sirusman? They have a very impressive reputation, and I have to admit that cleaning gas parts got old when I was in the army, let alone my spare time (though the 391 Urika is a marvel of design, and I doubt very much that I will part with it as long as it works)

Zapp, I think he has a Benelli now. My AL390 cycles 25 gram but will try some 21 soon. The importers said to open up the gass ports by 0.2 mm if required for 21 grm.
