Toombsy
Climbed Ben Nevis alone in May 2004. Got to the snowline and walked into the mist. It got thicker, colder, quieter, darker and had to resort to compass to find the summit. Got there after 5 hours of climbing, had an ice cold Mars Bar and a swig of Famous Grouse from the hip flask as a celebration. That was the first time I have ever heard complete silence. Really quite wierd up there alll alone. I sort of didn't want to come down, and had to really force myself to get off my backside and get down from it. Deako
Still find it hard to talk about this, but I'm going to try to be strong. It was when I finally worked out how to make a spring stick less floppy by twisting both bits of plastic stick inwards to make the spring stiffer. Really felt like I had finally reached a milestone in my life and that I wasn't a retard after all.

Psyxologos
I spend a couple of hours a day at the gym, and play basketball for two hours, four times a week. I cycle ~40 miles a week. As far as mental strength is concerned, this is tested daily. Especially when I have to mark university essays. You just would not believe what the scientists of the future write. Honestly... evilstoat
losing my dear old mum ( my best friend ) 2 years ago, then me worrying about my nephew who had cancer 1 year ago (still ongoing treatment ) then losing my step mum 2 months ago, and last month almost losing my son and wife during child birth, that really has tested me mentally, but there are plenty of people worse off, so i keep on going physically ( because apparently my kids WII fit says i am obese)... trampling around muddy fields every weekend with a 7LB gun
viking
1 jan 09, stopped smoking finally after 22 years, every day is still a test, id like to say its getting easier but its not, but when you have a 6 yo son who asks you to stop, that kind of makes it a bit easier, feeling the benefits though when out rough shooting, not so much out of breath now and no coughing and wheezing, just got to keep on keeping on, lee

Wookie
Mentally? My job can really test me sometimes. Physically? I'm running long distances for the first time in my life and every time I go out I either end up going further or faster than before. Yesterday's run was 4 miles in 32:30 and I really want to be able to crack 10k in 45 minutes or under by April. After that, I may sign up for a half marathon and see how I get on. After that? Maybe the London Marathon. We'll see
steve_b_wales
Mine was when I did a trek to base camp of Everest in 2004. I/we also summited mount Kala Pattar (18,550ft) I did this for the charity scope and also to place a memorial plaque for my son David (14) who I lost in 2003. What actually tested me to the limit was that I had a chest infection before I went and was advised/told by my doctor that I must not go. David's plaque now rests near the top of Kala Pattar, facing mount Everest. My son would have been twenty years old today.
Salop Matt
Mine was mentally in december, My best mate who i think of as being like a bit of a brother was and still is serving with the army in Afghan. Me and him though our teens were as thick as theives together esp when out drinking and part of that was i became close to his family to. The first week of december His sister without warning or any cry for help took her own life leaving her family and 8 year old son. My mate was flown back instantly from the middle of Afghan back to the UK to be with his family. The night before the funeral 11pm he called me to say he had writen a peice he wanted to read out at the crem but said he couldnt face it and as his best mate would i do it ! Him being my best mate I stepped up to the mark ( digging very deep inside for the courage) as I know he would for me. I asked that he tryed to read some or at least stood at my side when i did so he didnt look back with regrets. I then red what he wrote the following morning before the funeral and god had i ever taken on the biggest thing in my life. Anyway the funeral came and on arrival there were: old school teachers, friends and family totaling around 150 - 200 people. At this point my heart was in my mouth and I had the wobblest of voices going especally as i had never been to a crem or funeral before ! Thankfully half wy through me reading it out he decided he wanted to finish it, am so glad as he shouldnt have any regretts in the future. Now for me that was very testing ! Deker
I entered the NABBA North Britain body building competition in 2000 (seems like only a few years ago lol), the physical training pushed me way beyond what I thought was possible, but the last three weeks before the competition were the hardest mentally, living on next to no carbohydrates really messes with you - to make matters worse I was also in my final year at uni. I tried for the following year too bud that final three weeks caught up with me and I just couldn't get through the final week so I never did enter. If you ever see pictures of body builders on stage, love or hate the way the look you have to admire what they went through to get there and to keep doing it...
