henry d
I went down to my allotment today and the guy who has the `lot next to me has his brassicas netted off, out flew one woodie and left inside was a white woodie. I have never seen one, although I thought I saw one near there a few months ago. I lifted the net and got inside with intent to kill it and get it mounted and somehow it managed to find the hole and escape. At first I was devastated, then I thought, I wouldn`t get a feed from it(therefore a waste) and it was just for a talking point, so was a bit vain. I then thought, what if you had shot it ? You would have been a pleased as punch So what would you have done if you caught it ??
GW80
Good question, i'm not sure what i would do to be honest, have never seen a white woodie for a start so the suprise factor has to be taken into the equation!!!
Mungler
Elvis would have shot it at 300 yards with his HMR or he would have caught it and "mounted it" Suffok stylee

Ferret Master
I've seen a melanistic woodie. It was totally white other than some brown patches... and it was definitely a woodie! FM
Ozzy Fudd
if instinct had kicked in i would have shot it (pigeon! bang), but if i saw it was white first i would have left it; same as that white deer there was the whole row over lately but thats just me
racingfrank7
If i was out shooting pigeons i think it would have been instinct to, then thought not seen one of them before, or put it down to been a fat barn pigeon / ferral !

Highlander
We have a number of white woodies here from time to time and they make good markers, you can follow a flock during the winter months and get a feel for their range. Having said that if I ever got the chance to shoot one I would and hopefully if undamaged I'd get it to my taxidermist. I've been offered one for that purpose by a mate who's keeping it in his freezer but it's just not the same unless you've shot it yourself or unless there's are special situation. Bleeh
Are you sure it's just not a Dove/Feral pigeon hybrid?
henry d
Are you sure it's just not a Dove/Feral pigeon hybrid? Absolutely, I was no further than 3 m away and it had wing/neck bars and the "white" was more a cream colour.
Doc Holliday
Where I come from a white woodie is generally called a fantail dove
Highlander
There'll always be mockers but white woodies do exist and one day when I've had one taxidermied (as opposed to stuffed or mounted so as not to fall foul of the Ethics Mafia) I'll post a pic. No worries hd I believe you
