reddan
Just got Sporting Gun and saw their article on the new Beretta Semi that breaks open so you can prove its unloaded. Good idea, although it isn't clear if it takes more than two cartridges. UGB25 Gold is the name. Dan

reddan
yeh, but just look at it I am yet to see a semi auto that i think comes anywhere close to the attractiveness of a sxs or o/u. So I just took it as a given that it was ugly as sin but that didn't matter. Dan

reddan
I believe I read on this site that this is not the first time that idea has been pushed out. I honestly don't see the point in a breakable two shot semi auto. I would prefer to buy a nice SxS if I was needing a gun which had to break. > Is it confirmed as only a two shot? If it is then this is a big let down because I would agree with you. Or an Escort if I needed a semi to break... (Sorry, couldn't resist). > I had to hold back. GW80
I think it's aimed at trap shooters who want to shoot with a semi, the spent cartridge is ejected out of the bottom of the gun and not the side so you are not spewing empty shells over the guy stood next to you in the line!! Baldrick
beretta launched it about 4 years ago and it was so bad they pulled it. They did indeed pull the initial run of UGB25s, but the gun was re-released late last year after a lot of fettling. It looks absolutely gopping, and is made specifically for effeminate and limp-wristed Italians, all incapable of wielding a proper shotgun. OR utter techno weenies that HAVE to have the latest gadget. having played with one (and being an ardent Semi fan and user) i find it hard to understand why you would want one other than being ..see line one.... Wookie
I can see the Americans liking that for skeet and stuff. Mind you, they'll probably be a bit upset at the lack of a 10 shot version. I'll stick with my SPig V I think.

I'll stick with my SPig V I think. No, it won't appeal to americans one bit. A 2-shot semi auto gives up capacity to everything else on the market and we don't have any cartridge restrictions on how many can be in the gun (with some exceptions where a removable plug will do). No necessity to have the gun broken open when shooting clays- an open action will do. So I don't anticipate them selling more than a handful in the US. thanks rick

J@mes
can see it appealing to clay shooters or other shooters who possibly have shoulder problems and can't cope with recoil, while also not wanting to use a 20b.
jinxy72
think its aimed at trap shooters ..... dont think semi-suto's are allowed on trap disciplines atm .... i know one of my local ground dont allow them ( not sure bout all though or reg events ) when i asked why ( out of curiosity ) got told it was because they cant break and when shooting trap like dtl u stand waiting ur turn with ur gun broken with carts in ready .. and also the fact that when a semi ejects the carts u would hit the person next to u ( as already been mentioned on here ) ... and also that someone once did put the barrel of a loaded semi onto his foot ( like u do with a o/u on dtl etc ) and it went off taking his foot with it
Ean76
I saw some chappie using one on Sunday, when I was doing a round of sporting. Looked really weird: a semi auto held (broken) in the crook of the arm. Did the job tho, he hit everything. ***.

Floating Chamber
beretta launched it about 4 years ago and it was so bad they pulled it. It is an old design and has been around for over FIFTY years. It was sold as the 'COSMI' in 1958* It cost $1000 (£360 in 1958) and weighed 7lb 15oz. (A top of the range, state of the art, Winchester Model 50 semi-auto would have cost $149 (£54) at the time!) *This gun is described on page 131 in the first edition of Richard Arnold's book 'AUTOMATIC AND REPEATING SHOTGUNS'. swift4me
Glad someone finally mentioned the Cosmi. This gun is nothing new in theory, but was a problem for Beretta no doubt. It was not marketed as a skeet gun to my knowledge, only trap. I sold three of them to customers by special order, and there were no problems. Recoil reduction, no spent shell throwing (which is disallowed in ATA events, although most semi-auto users use an after market shellcatcher which doesn't work if shooting doubles by the way), and a break open action for those who look sideways at semi-autos on a clay range... and there are lots of you out there. In my experience, after the age of 50, a lot of serious trap shooters with Perazzis and Krieghoffs in the safe at home are shooting semis because of the recoil. I've seen a high grade Cosmi at the Las Vegas High Grade show. The stocking, engraving and metalwork was incredible. It was $24,000, but nonetheless.
