FAC Air

Hello chaps,

Does any one use FAC air?

Always had a sub 12 air arms s410 but since getting my FAC it's been redundant in the cabinet so I'm thinking of going down the FAC air route.

I enquired about getting my s410 converted but it seems the shot count would be so low there's not much point. Anyone else think it's pointless?

So I'm thinking of selling the s 410 and getting the FAC version, I've some land not all that suited to rimfire that should be great for the FAC air.

Should be a useful tool?

You need to look at where it will fit in with your needs. What do you have at the moment ?

If you have a 22 lr then that will as you say make your Air rifle redundant in allot of cases but not all, place as and scenarios that I would use 12ft/lb air,,

Barns,

Roost shooting,

Around farm buildings.

Also consider that if your new on the FAC scene land will need to be approved before you shoot on it.

Look at what's on the market, they are reputed to be hard to sell, and not at premium prices. So consider that before converting.

Hi Ya

Conversion from sub 12 to FAC air is generally a waste of time and money on most guns unless they have a decent sized buddy bottle as you end up with low shot counts and power curves like a banana. Also it tends to devalue the gun somewhat and makes it less appealing for sale.

Dedicated FAC air is great though especially when your permissions have areas that dont suit rimfire due to close buildings or you and you need to take tree dwelling quarry like squirrels which you can do with FAC air in certain circumstances unlike rimfire.

I have a .22 fac air that I use a lot during the summer month when the bunnies are all over the shop and am going to apply for a .25cal for dedicated night use on one of my smaller permissions.

Effective range is generally for me up to about 60 yards easily and when you know you drops can be a fair bit more.

Cheers Neil

I've considered the same several times over the last few months. I also have an AA S410, which doesn't get used much at all.

From the research I've done, the comments from Dougy and Zetter are bang on. I would personally like one for around the farm buildings, and houses, as I'm just not comfortable using my .22lr in those places.

There's certainly bargains to be had when buying FAC Air. Although, I wouldn't get an FAC S410, as in my opinion, they're just way to long by the time you've added the moderator.

Although I am very temped to try going for a swap with someone, as in my sub 12 ft/lb for their FAC version...

The FAC air is ideal for areas that you need a rapid trajetory drop off on. For instance if have a golf couse 300 meters away. A .22 rf will still be travelling a pace where as the pellet will have lost its velocity. The down side is that you don't have the same range as the rf.

Having thought about it, this seems an expensive novelty to be honest.

I may just scale down my air rifle and get a tx200 .177. Sell the bottle and tricked up sub 12 s410 and invest the money in something else.

I currently have .22 rf and .17 hmr but I'm putting a variation in for a CF.

As Dekers pointed out, only you can decide ultimately....

I cant find so called 'cheaper' FAC Air rifles. I have an empty slot on my ticket , and cash in the drawer.

It seems because of their 'rarity' they hold their prices. My Cz.22lr , gets used most, and a .177 S410 Sub 12 where a tad more 'eloquence'

is required.

If its only for occasional use , and a multi shot is not essential , a HW80 .22 fac may be useful. I am considering one, but cant find one!

It's up to you of course, and there are those that use them, but in FAC I would never even consider a springer.

PCP every time.

As said above it depends on your ground and what quarry your targeting!

I had .22lr but got rid of it in favour of FAC Air! Reason being I had HMR and shotgun for fox and my fox shooting was rare. My regular use is lamping bunnys and walking around the shoot and farms taking what ever pest I come across where safe, now .22lr would be fine for all quarry on the ground but squirrels in trees and pigeon/Corvid in the trees is just not a option to the .22lr but this is where the FAC can take advantage. The FAC air is great on squirrels and crows ! .22 @ 28ftlb with a 16grain pellet just works so well for me.

You also have PCP charging gear already I guess.

I use a fac rapid all the time , it shoots flatter , hits harder and is way better in the wind than a 12ftd air rifle . Range wise when you get used to it and it will take plenty of practise I would say it has a 30yd advantage over 12ftd . I do a lot of roost shooting you can't do that with a rim fire safely and round here it's heavy clay and a 22rf is ricocheting bullets all the time . The down side is it uses more air i carry a spare buddy bottle with me , I've then got 120 shots . If I was you and your set on getting a high powered air rifle I would look at a secondhand rapid if you look on gun trader there about £500 , your air arms would be better left at 12ftd

Lots of good advice above buddy and like most others I would say that it all depends on your usage. I have permissions where 22lr is fine 9 times out of 10, but when close to buildings its not suitable and that's where the FAC air comes in. It's also great for bunny bashing out to about 60 yards in daylight as they hear absolutely nothing and carry on feeding as their mates fall around them. Like others have said, its also great for squirrels and roosting pigeons. The big disadvantage is that the good ones are not cheep.

Mines a Daystayte Airwolf MTC and I run it at 30ft lb with 16 grain pellets. Accurate at 60 yards, I can get 10 inside a milk bottle top using said pellets, change the pellets and power setting up to 40ft lb and it'll go happily out to 80 yards but to be honest I'm back on my LR upwards of 60 yards.

They are a great option to have if you have mixed permissions, some small some large, but I would not sacrifice my LR and go just air.
