Nobody gets a custodial sentence for a first offence of breaking and entering. Probably not even for the twenty first...………..

You can book a quiet carriage you know? Often its only a few extra pounds for first class and that can be a real game changer. Where are you? I think you are in the US? Amtrak is good these days

I can book London to Newcastle in two weeks time for £36.95 on Trainline website using my railcard, I have just checked it. And that will be a reserved seat with a plug for your lap top and a buffet car. That's why I use the trains so much they are cheap and I find them very comfortable The Journey time is 2 hours 50 mins, you would struggle to drive it in twice that time The thing is its very variable, Newcastle playing at home, big concert at the Sage and the tickets go through the roof

I use the train all the time to go to Cardiff from Paddington, its pretty good, you get an allocated seat with a plug. The price varies considerably but £15-20 is not unusual. Its usually pretty reliable. As from this summer I will start doing Paddington to St Austell in Cornwall on a regular basis, I've already started looking at the prices as I am set up on the trainline and GWR websites to receive notifications of deals to Cardiff I just added St Austell as well. £35 seems about the best I have seen. The thing about train travel is knowing how to go about getting the right prices

Round here being 'multicultural' London we have a phenomenon known as The Indian Builders. They don't speak English, I don't think they can read or have any idea that Building Regs even exist let alone what they say. They have no comprehension of H&S or the laws relating to who is and who isn't allowed to work on gas or electricity but my word are they cheap! and people use them.

Friend of mine, a retired copper, now works for the gas company fraud team and he is a very interesting person to sit down with and listen to all his stories

Brexit wont reduce the jobs, it will only affect the ease with which Europeans can come in to work. Applying for a work visa isn't all that difficult, I can't see what all the fuss is about..
-
Like anybody actually has the evidence to support that?

Sad, a political lemming. He had a future if he hadn't been so opinionated as to think he could go against the views of his constituency.

I had a really interesting conversation towards the end of last week with a man who works for a company that imports and installs top end German kitchens. The real dogs whatsits of the kitchen world. They have about two or three full size truck loads a week from Germany. He said Brexit will have no effect what so ever. To get through the ports the trucks have to have full customs declarations and paperwork now. But after Brexit there will be no change . in the forms and paperwork. After Brexit, no difference in paperwork, same documents, same procedure. Only difference is UK Govt may make an import charge but that's electronic, and invisible to the truck driver. Apparantly, throughout our time in the EU trucks going in or out of Dover or wherever have never been exempt from paperwork so Brexit = no change whatso ever regarding paperwork. All this talk of twenty mile queues at dover is just remainer babble

He's Cornish, that's what they are like, they are a bit disrespectful of authority generally, he didn't do any real damage.

1) ignore most of the silly suggestions on here. 2) don't get involved personally 3) Let the council deal with it and keep up the pressure on the council, not just one phone call
-
I would have thought the cost difference alone would have settled that question for you

Somebody I worked for bought a house with a new extension built by a cowboy builder. The mortar that it was built from was virtually pure sand, you could rub it out from between the bricks with a pencil. It had to come down and be rebuilt.

Speed limiters on all new cars from 2022
Vince Green replied to poontang's topic in Motoring Section
The black boxes fitted to new drivers cars by their insurance companies is effectively speed limiting technology. If you speed the insurance company bumps up your premium. They don't have to change the cars, just roll out the black boxes to all cars. -
Speed limiters on all new cars from 2022
Vince Green replied to poontang's topic in Motoring Section
New car sales are already falling through the floor, one reason is because older cars are still working perfectly even when they are ten, even fifteen years old. Next time you are on a long journey start looking at the ages of the cars around you. Also new cars seem to have gone up in price faster than inflation these past ten years or so, putting people off buying new -
I wear Site King khaki cargoes all the time. I've got three pairs. Been wearing them today at bisley . They tick most of your boxes for about £15 a pair. Very strong and thick material, pretty much thornproof. Pockets don't wear out etc They do a 36" inside leg, black and blue colours are not as robust material

Many years ago we were taken to a clay shoot in Cyprus, it was supposed to be a treat from the people we were staying with. It was a fairly big and formal club, not just a few traps in a field. The gun handling / safety was absolutely appalling. People walking about with closed guns, swinging them round pointing at people. I saw one man finish his stand with a first barrel kill and then proceed to walk off the point with his gun closed and presumably the second barrel still loaded. Nobody seemed to think it was any way unusual Its an entirely different culture, a bit like 'real men' don't wear seat belts over there.
-
The Italians generally do not have our rigid gun safety rules drilled into them the way we do. I can't really say it an more politely than that.

This sort of thing happens regularly during deer season in America. Every State has fatalities every year.

There is an article in the Mail on Sunday about the number of times people caught with knives get let off by the courts. One offender had 21 separate court appearances for possession of a knife before getting a very short custodial sentence. His convictions 21 counts Possession of a bladed weapon 17 counts Assaulting police officer 33 counts Common assault 8 counts Sexual assault 65 counts Theft 15 counts Robbery 15 counts Burglary 30 counts Drugs 53 counts Fraud BEFORE HE FINALLY GOT A CUSTODIAL SENTENCE FOR A MUCH MORE SERIOUS ASSAULT That tells you all you ever need to know. Where is the deterrent in that?

It depends on the quality of the cable and what else electrical is near by. Fridge or freezer motors can be tricky as can central heating pumps if you are running it round behind the units in the kitchen but you just have to try it and see.
-
You might have a problem with the signal integrity over that length of cable

Very good car, you certainly won't regret it

The radiator was slung under the rear wheel arch and used to get bunged up with road crud. Regular attention with a good strong hose was required to clear it out. We didn't have pressure washers in those days unfortunately. The heater was higher than the rest of the cooling system and required constant bleeding
