  1. I have a pair of green dunlops I must have had six years now, They were used virtually daily when the dog was alive but still come out for shooting / bad weather and this weekend for the fireworks no doubt. I think they were about a fiver The secret is to put an empty plastic drinks bottle in each of them when not in use, that way they don't fold over and crack
  2. He is very good at criticising isn't he?
  3. In order to be released after only serving half his sentence I was under the impression he had to demonstrate to the Parole Board that he has undergone some degree of rehabilitation. I really can't believe that he has, or that the Parole Board would be taken in by him.
  4. In real terms shotgun cartridges have never been cheaper.
  5. I did the same but I only moved to Abercynon Wales about twenty miles north of Cardiff. More foreign in some ways than Spain but I can be back in Paddington in two hours and for £8 on the train. I love it, rural and honestly good people who have lived through a lot of social hardship, but deserve better. You soon realise that a lot of people in the valleys have no hope of ever escaping the life that fate dealt them.
  6. 99% of the time that's just a simple cleaning issue. A good session with a proper copper remover from somewhere like HPS will sort that out. A quick wipe through with Hoppes doesn't clean out the fouling and it just builds up. Go on the HPS website and look at their cleaning section. They really do know what they are talking about. You would be surprised just how much effort serious international level target shooters spend on cleaning their barrels In normal use its "virtually" impossible to actually shoot out a Sako barrel unless you are taking it down the range every week and putting hundreds of rounds through it. On the other hand, I have seen probably hundreds of rifles brought in that have never ever been properly cleaned
  7. As Walshie says, Its going to be a big one this year. I really hope they don't over cook it
  8. Why do you think it has come to the end of its life?
  9. No just guns, gun parts, ammunition and ammunition components (plus some optics) but the paranoia has spread beyond that and a lot of the suppliers wont send anything outside the US now.
  10. Having been round rifles all my life and helped out in a gun shop for many years off and on, the only rifles I have ever really seen with shot out barrels were target rifles or wildcats. However, I have seen hundreds of otherwise perfectly good rifles that have been 'ruined' by lack of proper cleaning. Pitted barrels often don't affect the shooting though.
  11. Yes and end up in jail for up to ten years if they get caught. It won't be just a slapped wrist, its a jail sentence, especially if you give them evidence of a conspiracy. This is anti terrorist legislation, don't underestimate how seriously the Americans take this stuff or how severe the penalties are for contravening the regulations. That's why the companies in America are so frightened of it that they wont even ship out stuff they are perfectly entitled to ship out
  12. I've amended my post above, there is a small parts exemption for parts up to a certain value but the chances of the person on the desk actually being aware of it is risky.
  13. You need an export licence from the US Govt to export any gun parts new or second hand from the USA. Its their anti terrorist legislation ITAR but it certainly gets in the way of plain old common sense. There is actually a small parts exemption but nobody seems aware of it and you really don't want to miss your plane while some minor official goes away and checks the details while you sit in a cell. Never underestimate how officious they can be.
  14. This has happened before, I remember the same thing happening a few years ago, but the farmers sat on them to drive up the price too long and when they released them they created a glut and the price went through the floor again.
  15. I have but to survive a week is easy, you don't starve to death in a week.
  16. This is the problem, the world markets are going down. that's not bad as long as they are all following each other down, that's just 'tidal flow'. Markets go up and markets go down The remainers will seize on any dip in the market as proof of their distorted view that its all down to Brexit. And they will shout it Like the climate change fanatics who seize on every weather event as proof of (man made) global warming. After Brexit will come Brexit Blaming when every tax increase or company that gets into difficulty will get blamed on Brexit, petrol goes up - Brexit, everything will be Brexit.
  17. They don't have to take the payoff, if they do they are saying they there is no criminal offence involved because they tacitly have agreed to what was said or done.
  18. 6,5x55 is very common on Bisley at least a quarter of the members of our group shoot it, there was a bit of a cult status around it a few years because the long thin bullet is very accurate.
  19. Whats wrong with the .308 for fox and deer as well?, other than that 6.5x55. Stay away from the Creedmoor its too specialist
  20. Exactly, they (whoever "they" are) accepted the payoffs and signed the paperwork. Whatever the facts, may or not be, the case is now tainted,
  21. Scotland is a shooting country, vast tracts of land with nothing else to support it but shooting They have so much land up there, it could be shooting heaven for the masses but they have always maintained a snooty aloofness. So much potential still untapped, its almost inexplicable.
  22. Depends on what you are loading for, unless you are worried about Apaches or bears, most people download for target shooting. handloads.com or similar has lots of information, good place to start. Not many of the listed powders on the American websites are around in the UK these days, Unique gives gentle mild loads but often very accurate, a sweet lovely powder and not fussy about the odd grain here or there, 2400 is good for mid range loads but still very accurate. Reloader7 for the punchier loads.
