It was probably technically the correct thing to do, a bit like the fire crews were pulled out of Croydon during the riots leaving that big furniture shop to burn. Or ambulance crews being prevented from going in to unsecured areas to attend to victims of shootings or stabbings. But he has lost face and in any uniformed job respect of your peers and subordinates is everything.

When you say you cleaned it, what did you clean it with?

I don't know but the plots appear to be quite expensive given that its "only" woodland.

That's correct or at least keep different brands apart, you usually end up collecting a few brands as you go along. The real purists will stick to one batch of brass but they tend to be serious target shooters on a mission.

When was the last time we had a politician worth a f4rt in a wind tunnel? The job seems to exclude those with talent or ability, why would a real wizz kid go into politics? I wouldn't trust the present crop on both sides to run a chip shop or a Parish Council. Time to employ a management team? To run GB PLC as a business?

+1 its a leak, boot light is the old traditional favourite but some immobilisers can draw a fair current. Amp meters do not lie.

Like so many of these accusations, who ever knows what the truth is? This is not an allegation of rape though, its an allegation of touching a girl inside her clothes when he was 18. Not a good thing if its true but the timing and the way it has been exploited raises doubts. She has never complained to police apparently but instead went to a newspaper. Hmmm! Well all I can say is its probably just as well I am never likely to be put forward as a supreme court judge .

You can't go far wrong with a Hyundai but with any twelve year old car, you have to be cautious

To be honest it sounds like a bit of a chest/sinus infection etc. If it was you and you went to the doctor you would come back with a prescription for antibiotic and told to rest. Having lost my little mate Ollie a year ago I have a manic distrust of vets bordering on hate. They fed my step daughter into a constant, and very expensive line of unnecessary tests and treatments when it was clear that his hips were beyond saving and he was in constant pain, she believed them and paid out thousands.

A warning to all Section 2 pump and semi-auto shotgun owners
Vince Green replied to Oxfordshooter's topic in Guns & Equipment
Something similar happened to me about 40 years ago when I bought my first revolver. I bought it mail order which was pretty normal back then because some dealers were doing discount deals and came home from work one day to find it sitting on my doorstep waiting for me. The thing was, because I went to work on my bike, most days I would have let myself in the back door and wouldn't have seen it even when I got home. Back to the OP, I have heard stories of semis having a bit of wood stuffed in the mag to reduce the capacity. When the law changed a lot were converted in a bit of a rush I suppose. -
That's the real motivation for me, most of my time on the range is spent testing out new ideas. But I can get 4" groups at 200yds from Barnaul .308 and that's only 38p a round from HPS, I've just reserved another 200 rounds to be picked up from them at the Trafalgar Meeting on the 20-21st of this month. PPU .308 gives about the same performance, maybe a bit better, but that's creeping up in price, its about 77p a round now but the cases reload nicely. PPU .308 Match is definitely better but getting close to the mythical £1 a bang now. GGG 7.62 is best of the lot for performance and price, its 60p a round and the cases reload brilliantly. I have seen some really good scores using GGG at 600yds this year from a couple of our club members using top end F class rifles with all the whistles and bells, much better rifles than mine. All of my reloads probably cost more than this ammo, some a lot more, but I am still chasing that one ragged hole, one day maybe

I don't think a lot of people, and certainly not the remainers ( - that's obvious), realise just how handcuffed we are by our EU membership. Its like being restricted to only shopping at their outlets with no negotiation about the price. I will give you an example, In the US I can buy a Ford Mustang 5 litre V8 new for a little over $21,000, the same car in Britain is double that. The reason, simply, is to protect the German car producers.

Rounds to try for a Howa 243
Vince Green replied to PPP's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
Its a dogs dinner, hundreds of car valeting products from the USA are under threat, virtually all the top end waxes and cleaners, plus custom paints and lacquers are American but the market is small and importers are going bust. A shooting friend of mine imports wax polishes for musical instruments and he is up the creek. Its an EU protectionist scam in reality to prevent lots of good US made products being imported into the EU . To me its pure malice, its clearly aimed at bringing down the drawbridge on American product because they are superior. -

That shouldn't make any difference at all because REACH doesn't work that way. The reason Hogdon powders wont go through is because the importer doesn't want to pay the £2000 per powder to get it accredited. Reach only applies to chemical substances imported into the EU, paint, car polish, drain cleaner etc. Loaded ammo wouldn't come under the terms of REACH. -
I think that's totally correct, I don't really think we have that much in common with the French or Germans to be honest, I have never been to Australia but I go regularly to the US and worked there for a while, to me its very much home from home.
-
People don't see it as being worth the effort, the people who reload probably pay more for their ammo than factory costs . PPU is still the favourite at around 60-70p, GGG 7.62 is about 60p a round and so good it shoots bullseyes consistently at 600yds. The NRA sell it so it can't be bad. The new barnaul 308/762 at 38p is not match grade but good enough for training beginners at 200 yds What calibre? I know people who reload for £2 a round but its the best of the best. Some target bullets are around a pound each on their own. Without the rest

You can't send cases for recycling, first because they don't recycle any form of scrap metal anyway but any "ammunition" requires the place to be shut down and evacuated while a qualified member of staff comes down and carries out a risk assessment. Best option I have heard so far is take any fired cases to the local nature reserve and scatter them around in the viewing hides by the lake It gives them something to talk about
-
Our club gets a lot of scrap cases in popular calibres. A lot of people don't see any advantage in reloading now that cost difference has narrowed so much. Some we give away, others we scrap but lots of scrap dealers wont take in cases any more.

Rounds to try for a Howa 243
Vince Green replied to PPP's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
The real decision is made for you by what is available in your area to be honest. Try and keep a written note of your impressions, Privi is a marmite ammo, some people love it others don't have a good word to say about it. That's life. Same with S&B With a .243 always start with the lightest bullet. They can tend to be fussy about heavier bullets -
Part of the reason for that good fortune, and the reason, statistically, that most of us old fogeys on this forum are still alive to post is because we have all been vaccinated against most of the killer diseases that used to wipe us out in years gone by. Before the first world war the average life expectation for a man was 49 years. Flu is still a serious killer today and not just old people. The Spanish Flu epidemic in 1918-19 killed three times as many people worldwide as had been killed in the previous four years of war. Many of the victims were young and otherwise healthy, once contracted it could kill in 48 hours, the lungs just filled up with fluid. I have a flu jab every year and had no side effects what so ever, about 25 years ago I had real flu and I can easily see how it could kill you, anything is better than that.

The biggest sources of cross infections of colds, flu, norovirus and other stomach bugs etc are supermarket trolleys, public transport and lift buttons.

Modern synthetic oils are much less prone to burning because they can withstand much higher temperatures. That's assuming the car is being run on synthetic oil, which is not always the case by a long way, even though they should be. but "using oil" is not necessarily due to burning, it can be losing it through leakage somewhere.
