If what Project Fear had said would happen actually had any truth, we would be having power cuts, no food in the shops and all the ATMs shut down by now. The fact that it hasn't destroys any credibility they have now to criticise. The UK economy is strong, the FTSE is at record highs and people like Clegg, Blair, Campbell, Cable are appearing more desperate in clinging to what is now seen for what it was a scare campaign to protect their jobs or their aspirations for jobs in the future. Look, I have no illusions, Brexit is going to be tough and I'm sure that the EU will do everything in its power to make things as unpleasant as possible. That's exactly the reason we have to leave. The EU is basically not fit for purpose and is becoming more dictatorial, domineering and bullying in its approach. It is also now crumbling What ever the price we have to go

In Norfolk, the real locals, who are actually quite an endangered species these days, actually speak something more like old Viking, not so much in the words but in the construction and way they say their vowels A lot of our constructions are Viking based, we say the red house, French and Roman construction would say the house red But the real centre of Viking words is in the Yorkshire dialects where lots of Viking words still prevail. People say keep your eyes skinned (should be skeined =on lookout). But the Vikings didn't have a universal language. Most of our Vikings were Danes but Scotland and Ireland its Norse Geordie is the real Viking accent, almost pure Danish but fewer words remain. A real hard Geordie accent with the lilting ups and downs, (think Jimmy Nail) is pure magic.

There is another aspect which nobody has mentioned yet. Its not cheap to put your guns into storage anymore, a lot of RFDs have cottoned on to the fact that its a bit of an earner and you probably have very little choice.

You still do a lot better with a guide IMO, a good guide points out things you would not know from just visiting the places
-
I don't usually do product endorsements, but this guide and the products are very good. I get the impression that a lot of rifle shooters don't really understand about the effects of fouling https://www.hps-tr.com/en/instructions-for-gun-cleaning-running-in

They call tourists grockles in the New Forest

D-I-C-K's, yes its great, we usually go to that Mall on the last day before dropping the car off. They had a full display of the whole range of genuine branded Weaver scope mounts, rails etc and it was all a third of the price you would pay here. So much easier also to be able to go and actually hold the bits in you hand and weigh up how it was all going to fit together. You just never get that here

Jam sandwiches, and I am not kidding at all! It works well for urban foxes and it doesn't attract all the other carrion eaters

Do you have a link for that place please?

I agree the best parts of Florida are away from Orlando which is a bit of a bubble. Places can seem a bit dull after the intensity and buzz of Kissimee. Cocoa Beach is lovely but very quiet, St Petersburg, Clearwater the same. St Augustine is very historic but again, after a couple of days I got bored. The gun shops literally make you go weak at the knees, the prices, the selection of accessories, things you don't even see over here. Unless you have very young kids with you I personally think Universal is better than WDW

A half a day?????? Do you have any comprehension how big Disney is? Walt Disney world covers 47 square miles. There are 27 internal bus routes within Disney to get people around.

You can download a 243 just as easily as a .308

Last two times I renewed my referee never even had a follow up call from the police

I got an incredible telling off from the police for not informing them when I got divorced. Despite there being no issues, I put the guns into storage but only told them I was moving house. I was told I had breached the terms of my FAC

British Library or the Library at the Imperial War Museum. You wont be able to take them away though Best to phone first and take some ID. Also, all their day to day war diaries and daily reports will be in Public Record Office at Kew, bundles of them. KOYLI museum in Pontifract would be a good place to ask, also RAMC Museum at Aldershot would likely have records

Cooked first pheasant - tough as an old boot!
Vince Green replied to Houseplant's topic in Food and Drink
I rarely cook pheasant because my OH doesn't like it much but when I did I used to use a roasting bag to good advantage with some onion, herbs and wine or cider, then cook it slow. We didn't have a slow cooker back then but I guess its much the same principle. -
HS2 is not really about cutting down passenger times, I know that's what always gets quoted. I listened to a radio programme about it, the real need is for capacity but if they are going to build it they might as well build it so it can handle 21st century trains. The problem with our railway system, and the chaos you describe, is that we are running a Victorian network that was locked, moribund, for decades in Nationalisation

I agree with you, its more subjective than just an arbitrary line in the sand. Having seen how much drinking takes place in the Bisley Clubhouses every summer you could point the finger at a lot of shooters. I am always appalled by the amount of shelf space given over to booze in the average supermarket these days. Somebody must be buying it.

If you have ever flown over the Arizona desert, thousands of miles of nothing at a constant 100+ Farenheit. You have to start wondering why they don't just create a massive solar farm, its much cheaper than damming up rivers.

Electric cars are like the emperor's new clothes. If enough people tell you how great they are then you start to believe that they must be. However, there are very many issues still unresolved. Mostly surrounding the batteries.

Best to do a tour with somebody like Holts or Ledger, that way you get a guide and it is all pointed out for you. I don't know if The Western Front Assn still do tours, they were the best at one time.

It's arrived, tool porn be warned!
Vince Green replied to rovercoupe's topic in Craft and DIY Section
Very nice! just out of interest, how much? -
Ah, but if a complain has been made, (and we can take it as read that it has), the police have no choice but to investigate, and be seen to be investigating. The real story is who has made the complaint, (no prizes for guessing, its obvious) and what their motivation is (compensation). There will be ambulance chasing lawyers already preparing cases ready to go.

The one thing you notice in America all the time is the number of police on the streets. In New York there is literally a policeman on every corner, standing, chatting to the tourists, showing a prescence. Most are just "showing the badge" Other places, Disney, shopping malls, always police in view. Not doing anything, it must be a very boring job but they are there and they are visible. Why pay an ex soldier to be on the dole when you could pay them to be a policeman? there is virtually no difference in cost to the public purse? just different budgets

Fiddly! Cleaning rods are cheap and the cheapest ones are perfectly adequate. You don't need to pay much
