Help from you shot making gurus
bruno22rf replied to Donkey's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
pm "sitsinhedges" on this forum - best home made shot I've ever seen and a real nice guy to chat to. -
They may well have run the show, yod dropper, but the continual desire for Colonies and Military might by the Royal families of the time lit the fire that burst into 18 million deaths.

Heroes indeed, clakk, but victims of an oppressive monarchy that drove these men in their thousands into a wall of death for nothing more than vanity - greatest crime against humanity the world has yet to see yet those in their ivory towers walked away unscathed.

Belgium Side By Side Hammer .410 thoughts?
bruno22rf replied to thepasty's topic in Guns & Equipment
Are you talking of the folders? If so then there's plenty to choose from but check the bores for pitting as many people don't seem to bother to buy cleaning kits and then the bores suffer. If you are talking of the older "sidelock" hammer guns then be careful that it has been Nitro proofed as I've seen a few that are not - in fact bought one off a seller on here and 3 or 4 years later it's still gathering dust in a local Gunsmiths shop - lesson learned -
In your example, Ultrastu, the Club becomes the bullet and the Ball the object that causes the bullet to Ricochet - so if your Club is travelling at 120 mph and a small piece of it's surface is broken off upon hitting the ball, are you saying that this fragment would exceed 120mph?? Bored of this now and way off the OP's topic.

Apparently the 16g was only used by the French Royalty so it most likely belonged to Napoleon who, history tells us, was a keen DTL participant. From your vague description it certainly sounds like the , till now undiscovered, Le Sportif Purdey de Bonaparte.

Easy-peasy.....used AA S410 or S510 if your luck is in.

I see a local lass who does parties for whatever reason in Aldi most weeks filling her trolley with cases of wine and snacks - never heard any staff member grumble-few months back she emptied the store of Lemon Squash (guessing for a kids party) and walked out unmolested-must have been 40+ bottles.....Cow cos it's the best on the market and only on sale once a year

Apologies Hamster - my post was in response to your particular line where you state that non lethal head shots occur when the pellet fails to strike in the right area - I must confess to considering the very same thing after experiencing this phenomena the first couple of times but the very last Squirrel that I shot in this way was sat bolt upright and responded to my approach by attempting to run away but the poor creature appeared "drunk" for want of another description, it was shot at least 30 minutes before I approached it and the shot placement was spot on with a clean hole one side of it's head and a blob of blood on the other. I have switched to .22 simply because I cannot bare the thought of this happening again and, to date, it hasn't. Just about to start on a new Squirrel clearance job ( 70 acres of mixed woodland) before September sees me back on the numerous Woods that keep me busy over winter so time will tell

Hamster - I'm afraid that I totally disagree with you....the Squirrels that I shot with my S410 .,177 were shot clean thru the head between the eye and the ear - no ifs, buts or maybe's - with no intention of boasting about my marksmanship ( My Squirrels are always shot from a known range and using a rest) it's normal for me to lay out the slain and they actually often look like they have been drilled thru the head by a CNC machine. I totally understand why you would be sceptical but my only way to prove it would be to film one on my phone (and I have given it some thought) but my instant reaction upon approaching such a wounded creature is to finish it off. I might add that I am as tight as a Ducks Butt under water so why else would I go and buy an almost identical gun but in .22?

Cannot understand why anyone would deliberately shoot a squizzer in the engine room - these little pests are solid critters. I have posted several times on calibre for Squizzers so wont bore you all again but IMHO the .22 is the best tool for the job at my normal ranges (25 yards max) - the .177 is capable of going clean thru the head and not delivering enough energy to make a clean kill. On the other hand my longest shot last year was just over 50 yards after my patience wore thin watching 2 Squizzers playing for hours instead of coming to the feeder - one sat still for a fraction too long and was dropped stone dead by a .177 AA Field - I cannot help but wonder if the drop killed him as he was way up high but dead is dead in my book

The Nurse needs sacking - no laws are being broken and the Airgun is no more threat to her than the carving knife in the kitchen drawer. If the Gentleman was known to be mentally unstable then that's a different matter but that has nothing to do with the Airgun. In the eyes of the law, according to my FEO, the words "don't touch the Gun" could be considered restricting access.

No matter how hard you may hit a Golf Ball or with whatever type of projectile you choose to use, the Ball will absorb energy till the cows come home. Any debris resulting from the break up of the original projectile cannot accelerate after losing energy and weight. Drive your car at 100 miles an hour and then turn off the engine - as you slow down try throwing out a couple of seats and see if they overtake you.
-
£800 will buy you a nice used gun that some other poor soul has paid the depreciation on - quality guns tend to lose value for a couple of years then hold steady- more so if they are your normal popular configuration i.e. 28 "or 30" O/U multi chokes. Spending £800 on the guns that you mention will see you losing at least half your money by the time you get it out of the box whereas a used Miroku, Browning or Winnie could possibly cost you nothing if you look after it as you may get back what you paid when you bought it - there's plenty out there so don't rush in.
-
Still cannot see how a fragment can increase in speed - the speed of a fragment is surely determined by it's terminal velocity upon becoming a fragment and it's weight - so a fragment leaving a solid object (that has already massively reduced it velocity) and weighing a fraction of the original projectile is carrying a fraction of it's original energy and will thus suffer accordingly in terms of velocity? BTW - you need to fix your Airgun if it only reaches 100 yards.
-
Never heard of a bullet accelerating after a Ricochet, cooter, and cannot see how this could be? I can only imagine that if the bullet were smashed almost flat by the impact then the flat disc remaining would be more aerodynamic but then the impact needed to cause such deformation would absorb the majority of the bullets energy?
-
As already suggested - once the bullet leaves your barrel it's pretty much in the lap of the Gods, all we can ensure that we do is be as certain as humanly possible that a safe fall out is available beyond your target. Even shooting into a sizeable hill (decoying pigeons with Deeks about 70 yards from the hide) I have had bullets (.22lr) hit a stone and disappear into the yonder blue sky - they sound like a Hornet! As long as you are aware of the tendency of the RF to fly solo then you should be fine and I think that there are relatively few accidents compared to the number of guns in the UK to prove that, on the whole, we are a pretty sensible lot!
-
Never found out what caused the bang but then I had travelled a few hundred yards before finding somewhere safe to stop - the road has a couple of blind corners( think it's the B565) where this happened. A couple of weeks later I had to replace all of the power steering pipes due to a constant leak so maybe a mounting rubber or something had fallen off?. Permission has turned out to be very problematic because the Rabbits are coming from a field next door (you can see 20 or 30 just sitting out in the open)but ,as yet, I don't have permission to shoot them - pretty sure that my .22lr using subs will thin them out considerably but the crop has been virtually destroyed so it seems there are hundreds on the farm. TIGHTCHOKE....do I detect an air of disbelief in your post? - happy to pm you the exact location and the owners mobile number if you like - even send you a copy of the repair bill to my car.

Strewth, things must have changed-used to go every year back in the mid 90's and Camp by the bridge.Place was full of Totty including many French exchange students and we could pull most nights - there was a Pub both sides of the River but the one nearest the bridge was best for the Ladies, such a shame it appears to be no more -
Not sure if it's possible as the wall on the fixed choke model looks rather thin - try Teague, if anyone can it will be them. Not going to be cheap though - be cheaper to sell yours and then buy a multi.

My thoughts as well McSpredder - easy mistake to make. -
Maybe they are thinking of making a mini series where Ryan could be portrayed as a gullible simpleton who was seduced into feelings of power by nasty, nasty Guns - they could even make everybody pro Guns in the series wear black hats.

You will need to check your policy details as you might not be covered at all....3 weeks is quite a long time unless you were injured or have a good reason for not reporting the incident - good luck.
