    New car

Forester or outlander-both superb motors-forget the shogun-gutless waste of fuel (and iv'e got the 3.5 v6!)
  2. Could'nt even begin to count the number of pigeons i've killed with a body shot using a .177 at up to about 30 yards. If roost shooting you could wait for an eternity to get a head shot so most are dropped cleanly with a body shot-same on the ground-so long as the range allows then i will go for the body if the head is moving constantly or not visible.
  3. Congrats on the land-as regards to rotating decoys i dont think they will be of much use if you are using an airgun (i seem to remeber reading somewhere that you use an air rifle). These decoying machines are used mainly to draw pigeons over a waiting shotgun and are less effective at tempting them to land.IMHO your best bag using an airgun will be gained by finding a sitty tree or catching them as they come into roost.

    A new air rifle

If you have time/patience on your side then keep an eye out for a used Air Arms S200-if you then keep a sharp eye on the various Airgun forums you can usually pick up a tank/whip and gauge for about £75-sometimes less if you also watch on the "bay".Dont be put off by the small size or weird looks of this gun-its deadly accurate and easy to tweak till spot on the legal limit. If you buy wisely you probably wont lose any money on it-free shooting-cant be bad!.

    one liners

Several years ago i was on holiday with a couple of mates in Devon. We spent a lot of time driving around in the evening in my mate Nicks red Datsun 100(shows how long ago it was).To cut a long story short-nick had bought a blue flashing light and. despite advising him otherwise, decided to drive around some deserted country roads with the light flashing away on the dashboard.Anyhow-typical of nicks luck (he is the spitting image of Tim-nice but dim) we flew round one corner where a local cop was sat in his car.Less than 2 minute later we had stopped as the officer walked up to the car and tapped on the window.Nick wound down the window."Are you aware sir, that it is illecal to drive around displaying a flashing light and impersonating a police car?" "Its allright sir"nick explained-"I was being a fire chief" After about 10 seconds of silence the policeman burst into the loudest laugh i've ever heard. "**** off before i change my mind" were his parting words. One of the funniest moments in my life
  6. These are probably the most under-rared guns on the airgun market.Forget how they look-just get one and be amazed.Good luck with the sale-i would'nt part with mine for all the sleaze in westminster.
  7. POPGUN-any chance of a piccy of your puntguns-just curious to see these beasts!!
  8. Have'nt had time to read all through this thread but i've seen a fox shot stone dead at about 30 yards-guy used a .22 Original 45 in standard condition.Never seen it before nor since but i ,for one, would'nt ever try it.
  9. If this is the breast of the bird then it must have been flying to spread the shot all over-if the picture is of its back then i'd say it was shot at close range in the back whilst swimming. Can't accept that the RSPB would stoop to this level-more likely some trigger happy tosspot who needs a good hiding.
  10. No offence meant/taken-but writers such as JD bug me-bin airgunning for 35 years and same articles/stories still being recycled and made to look new.
  11. Aaaaaargh-stabbed with my own knife!!-well spotted that man.
  12. Sorry did'nt realiSe you WERE an English teacher? No indeed i hav'nt written any books on hunting-i tend to write the history of Aircrew for relatives who want to know what happened to their fathers/grandfathers-this keeps me busy enough-otherwise i write black poetry. And no-i hav'nt explained to thousands of people about the ethics of shooting but thats perhaps because its been done soooooo many times before.Guess we will have to agree to dissagree on everything except the old cobblers "bit".
  13. Surely you mean IS a legend?-After meeting the man at a gamefair a few more years ago than i care to mention my opinion of him is somewhat different to yours but what the hey-to some people the crankies are a legend.I would be willing to wager that if armed with a laptop, some decent piccies and a good imagination that ANYONE could spend a couple of months writing a hunting book and pass himself off as the best puffgun shooter in the land without ever even picking up a gun.The majority of writers in the airgun mags make their living from repetitive texts that have been regurgitated a million times and sold to young guns as the latest news.Once again-no dissrespect to JD or his kin-he was a master of his trade .
  14. Any knowledge gained -true or FALSE-last time i read me a dictionary i must have missed that diamond. With the greatest respect mr.Plague-read away my friend it will give you something to do while you wait for your trusty gat to cool off after slaying all them varmints.Theres a very true saying that is relevant to most writers of this kind of kindergarten comic-those that can- do-those that cant- teach.
  15. Whilst not wishing to speak ill of the deceased-lets not forget that JD was first and foremost a writer and as such prone to a little poetic licence. If you believe half the stuff written in Airgun mags then thats a shame cos most of the hunting tales are pure fantasy.I would imagine that most people see right through them and it would be interesting to know how long the average subscription lasts.
  16. Should be easy to get on the bay-but avoid a company called "coverall"-they sell c**p and then refuse to replace them.
  17. IMHO you're going to need a bigger scope.
  18. Hobby Bobbies-you've got to larf-i allways thought it was illegal to impersonate a police officer?
  19. Some schools can get extra funding from local diocese if they meet certain criteria-i wouldnt worry too much about it-at the end of the day i suppose you tell her that theres a santa claus and in time she will realise the truth and make up her own mind-much as you dont like the school pushing her one way-you must be carefull not to be self righteous and try push her the other.Let her grow up and be her own judge-just support her whichever way she walks and you wont go far wrong.
  20. If its an official Hull cartridge import then the model/variant should be marked on the breach block-normally on the left hand side-hull cartridge co is normally stamped under the barrel-any help?
  21. I got rid of my 95 cos i couldnt hit a cows rrrrrs with it-never had a problem with any other gun b4-i tried everything but even though my mates had no problem i just couldnt get it right.Could be that the dynamics of the gun just doesnt suit some folk?
  22. Did i miss something or did you say you've applied for your licence but dont have anywhere to shoot?-not sure if the old bill will grant a certificate on these terms?-maybe someone on here knows better?
  23. Cant answer why gun was initially zeroed but the 80 has the famous barrel droop that most HW's have-to set it correctly you can either buy special mounts or-count the clicks on the elevation from max up to max down-set the dial in the middle then pack the back mount till the gun comes on to zero elevation wise -i used to use 12 gauge cartride cases cut down the middle-your scope is now in alignment with your barrel.
  24. Yorkshire pudding-o.k. so i may be about to male myself look stupid here but with the greatest respect-why does eye dominance make any difference when shooting a rifle? p.s. apologies for kinda highjacking the thread.
  25. My money would be on the 80-at 12lbft its only ticking over.Check for any movement side to side on the barrel once its cocked or get a competant g/smith to do it for you-look at the breach screws and see if there are any signs of tinkering. While the barrel is down and the rifle cocked swing the barrel up and down gently to see if the action is smooth. If in any doubt walk away cos theres plenty for sale-if its a goodun then you've got a friend for life.
