  1. I raised a number of potential issues with the BASC regarding the new online system that's due to be implemented. The FEB wanted the costs of grants and variations reviewed due to their costs not being covered. The review and subsequent cost increase was based on the current paperwork system, which is apparently inefficient. After the increase, the FEB then announces that they are launching a new, far more efficient online system. They obviously had this in the pipeline for a while, and opted to keep it quiet during their negotiations with shooting organisations and the DOJ. So where does that leave us shooters? Were any shooters consulted by the police about the new online application system? I certainly wasn't. Why when applying for a grant, regrant or variation does the feb ask for your email address, when they obviously don't seem to use them? Are we due another review of fees as a result of the new, more efficient online licencing system? It obviously costs less than the current system. The feb have an answer for everything, but you'd think their answers were written by politicians rather than a public service organisation. How many people do you know that are computer illiterate? How many farmers and older shooters are going to be able to go online to fill out application forms? How many people don't even have internet access, never mind a computer? All these points seem to be covered under the feb's FAQ section on their website. You can go to a library, you can take computer courses etc. All potentially cost prohibitive for a lot of folk. Lets not forget the potential security implications. Lets hope our shooting organisations can get to the bottom of this. As shooters and paying customers, we deserve answers. All this smoke and mirrors nonsense is getting out of hand. Everybody knows the police want to reduce the amount of firearms in circulation, but having such an agenda (albeit somewhat hidden) is discriminatory against legitimate shooters.
  2. It's wrong is it? Ok then, my bad. Though I think you'd have a hard time convincing your insurance company that replacing run flats with standard tyres is a modification that's unlikely to alter the handling of the vehicle from the oem specs.
  3. Shaun has pointed out the most important part of this. If you replace run flat tyres with standard tyres, you are altering the driving characteristics of the vehicle. Your insurance company will not pay out in the event of an accident. Cars fitted with run flats as standard have been tested using run flats by the manufacturer. This affects the suspension geometry setup and can lead to different materials being used for suspension and steering. As soon as you put standard tyres on a vehicle that was designed to run on run flats, the vehicle is deemed to be a risk by the insurance companies because of the potential variation in vehicle handling characteristics. Manufacturers and car dealers in most countries have zero obligation to provide spare wheels.
  4. It also depends on who owns the vehicle. If it's a rental, some rental companies won't hire cars to under 25's.
  5. I would also vouch for Sportsmatch mounts. No point fitting a suitable scope with inferior mounts. The mounts are half the battle of keeping your zero.
  6. I use a Hawke HD 3-9X50 on my Weihrauch HW-97. It's 18 ft/lbs and the scope hasn't lost zero in over at least 2000 shots.
  7. The excuse my insurance company used for the £200 increase in premium was that insurance tax had increased from 6% to 9.5%. Basic mathematical calculations are obviously beyond their ability. Try every insurance company you can. They have absolutely no loyalty to you, so don't feel obliged to show any loyalty to them when renewal time comes.
  8. Anybody handing out verbal abuse obviously has a reason for doing so. It's their problem and not yours, so you take it on the chin and leave. You don't know what the farmer's dealing with in his life. Being controversial would be counter-productive, and only serve to wind both parties up.
  9. You're trespassing on his land. I suppose that's good enough reason for the farmer to speak to you how he wants. To give abuse back would just be asking for trouble. Personally I'd take it on the chin and move on, rather than act the hard man and give abuse back.
  10. I'm sorry but that is just pure ignorance. Are you telling me that british protestants masquerading as professional army personnel didn't terrorise the Irish? The bbc has a lot to answer for. Every single media report on english tv was biased, and made out that british troops were over here smelling of roses and never put a foot wrong. The media actively seeking out reasons and excuses for the armys actions. Bang out of order.
  11. Why would you have purged the country of Catholics during the 'Irish troubles'? What logic have you used to come up with that statement?
  12. Yes there are varying grades of rubber used in engine mounts. Some of the cheaper mounts tend to be really hard and appear to be good quality, but they often aren't made out of quality compounds. The cheap metalastic bushes also tend to separate after short periods of time (rubber cracks and pulls away from any metal in the mount).
  13. There are going to be a lot more Irish citizens from the North and the South travelling up and down than there are immigrants or tourists. A hard border would only lead to more division and would inevitably have a detrimental effect on trade and jobs between the North and the South. English, Welsh and Scottish people would find themselves having to pay a premium for certain food stuffs and other Irish exports. As for EU members crossing into the uk, don't forget that a considerable percentage of the population in the North of Ireland possess Irish passports. This effectively makes the North of Ireland a place where European citizens can freely reside, whilst still technically being part of the uk.
  14. As per title. A friend of mine is contemplating having his HW97 tuned to get the most out of it in terms of performance and smoothness. It is currently performing at around 18 ft/lbs which he seems happy with. Any suggestions appreciated chaps.
  15. Another vote for CZ. I have a 452 Varmint in .22lr with a Boyds laminate stock (not thumbhole). It's never failed me yet in terms of reliability or accuracy. The CZ455 rifles appear to be a bit rougher round the edges compared to 452's.
  16. The second badger is harder to find
  17. Either the worlds most expensive crankshaft sensors, or they're extremely labour intensive to replace. Even so, at £1000 it sounds like they put the Marigolds on and asked you to bend over.
  18. I have been in and around the Somme all this week, and attended the memorial at the Ulster Tower on 1st July. It was well organised and a poignant reminder of the way things were. Today at the Devonshires cemetary I was glad to see the attendance of some schools. I have been coming to the Somme for years and haven't seen too many schools in attendance. It's great to see them here learning about the history of the place. Many seem to take a genuine interest. Ypres was a bit of a disappointment this year. There were louts standing at the Menin Gate drinking pints, and even more louts shouting and cheering during the remembrance. It was embarrassing as it transpired that the men were from Northern Ireland. A complete disgrace to the memory of those that fell. Other than that I would say that the French have done a fantastic job of providing security and logistics, as well as general organising.
  19. On that marque of Volvo you could be looking at a number of things. The easiest thing to check first is the fuel filter. Change it for a genuine Volvo unit, as they seem to have greater surface area than the equivalent aftermarket filters. Injectors are known to fail on these cars. Do you run it on premium diesel? If not, it's really a false economy. BP Ultimate or Shell V Power is the way to go. Random vibration and engine performance reduction can also be associated with worn driveshafts and engine mounts. Ideally you would need to have the car plugged into a suitable diagnostics machine to see what codes are present. Get it up on a ramp for a thorough inspection of all steering and suspension components as well, if you can. How many miles are there on the car? It's not unheard of for fuel pumps and pressure regulators to fail, but they are generally very reliable. Supermarket fuel can cause more problems than enough, but if you've always ran the car on premium fuel, the fuel system should be spot on. When replacing fuel pumps, it's always best to buy new. It isn't entirely necessary, but it's better than fitting a second hand unit any day. I'm not sure about the fuel pressure sensor being an integral part of the pump. Normally the fuel pressure sensor is screwed into the side of the common rail, but the pump should have a fuel pressure regulator which is probably what your garage is referring to. I could be wrong as I haven't seen one of these pumps before. Fuel pressure regulators are normally held in place with two torx screws or allen head screws, and are a simple bolt off bolt on component without having to remove the pump. Historically this has been my observation with fuel pressure regulators, but I'm unsure what way Ford has constructed the pumps for your engine.
  20. What year is your Volvo? Petrol/diesel manual or auto?
  21. Away and ask your mates how proud they are to be british as they're applying for their Irish passports lol. You might even have one. Willing to sell out your perceived nationality for the sake of a few quid and less paperwork in the long run. Proud to be british you say? I'd say that's questionable right now.
  22. Your opinion I'm sure is highly valued down the local pub. The sooner people get it into their heads that they live on the island of Ireland the better. Northern Ireland isn't recognised as a country. It has no national anthem and no 'fleg', only that of Ulster the provence. One of four in Ireland. My advice to you would be to wind your own neck in, as your pointless arguement serves no purpose.
  23. Wow such an insightful observation thanks
