  1. I guess we have to forgive and forget....but 2 burglary cautions, dread to think how many others where you were not caught and carrying a knife...does not sound great. You can apply, list your offences and see what your local force thinks and just hope your Chief Constable has'nt been burgled recently..
  2. RC SIPE 26g 7s..great shell. Also use the 28g 6s and there is a difference in the shoulder prod dept. They are not cheap cartridges but are excellent. Think your only other option is Lyevale Express but for some reason I dont like them.
  3. A new gun,as have written before includes a margin for gunshop(fair enough) and 20% v.a.t. so say you spend £600 by the time 'its off the forecourt' you've lost @ £200. In a year if you get into shooting you will shoot clays at least once a month say £30 entry + £20 in cartridges;you will need full cleaning kit/gunslip etc so so in reality going to spend @ £700 p.a. on shooting. In this context 'saving' @ £200 on your 1st gun is not great idea...by well buy once; I would strongly suggest buy second and lots of good guns on the market you won't throw away @ 30% and if you buy a miruko/beretta/browning you will have a gun you will want to keep...I don't know the ATA/but at the money and bear in mind it has been shipped/imported/taxed it is in reality about £300 's worth of underlying gun......yes it will go bang but I would bet within 2 years you will want to change it. Spend £800-900 now and get a proven gun I truly think it is a false economy a)buying new b) buying 'cheap'. Also as a new shooter, despite the huge temptation I would suggest not rushing to buy a gun,go try a few at your local club/seek a few opinions but folk you know. I am not knocking ATA but new guns come along every year but very few last and very few regular or experienced shooters would buy/use one. atb.
  4. Lead deforms on impact with a wall...not with a pigeon....I am thinking have you ever shot and plucked a pigeon...I really do not want a keyboard war,and if pushed I would agree with you Lead hits a bit harder;however in most other regards I do not agree with you; a killed bird has holes in it,there is little to no deformation in a lead pellet retrieved from a pigeons body. I am not a scientist, but I am a pigeon shooter and have shot rather of lot of them mainly with Lead but in the last 5 years quite a few with Steel..on balance I slightly prefer Lead but not because they cause more concussion I find them slightly more effective at the limits. Yes Lead is more dense, but steel for the same load has more pellets and within 40 yards ipso facto more potentially in the pattern/more chance of hitting a vital into which a hole is made. Atb.
  5. guess that is what I meant with a tad more subtlety!...surely at ranges they don't penetrate by definition that means bounced off...ie out of range in 1st place!
  6. I have never seen a very bruised pigeon...seen lots of holes though.......both make holes, lead sure carries bit more at extremes but at normal/sensible ranges I believe it is pattern that kills ie 7/71/2s great on pigeon as is steel as get more bits of shot...
  7. Well he tried all right........
  8. Nope. I see shotgun patterns & results as a 3d thing and 2d pattern plates answer different questions.........true choke/POA etc which are chocolate kettles........yes I have shot pattern cards no I have not done so with same load in the 2 guns mentioned...........I have shot thousands of pigeons/partridge/pheasants and cannot tell any difference between the 2. Nigel Teague (whose 3/8ths I love) knows his stuff and I am in no way trying to undermine his knowledge of barrels/chokes all I am saying is in my experience I cannot tell the difference between 23/4 chamber/3 inch chamber similar guns shooting 2 3/4 length cartridges..and I don't give a rats bottom about plastic wads as I won't use them. Of course I would be interested if someone wants to conduct something a bit more scientific but I do think this could be over analysis paralysis.......
  9. France 1st half domnated, then gifted Wales 2 v sloppy tries.......if Wales can win playing frankly very poorly bodes well for them Ireland have been the rugby team in World rugby in last 18 months, great pack(awesome Props) fab half backs and top wings...It will be interesting to see with them as clear favourites how they deliver....England as big underdogs are dangerous and Manu will break Ringrose in half...I think it will revolve around how England deal with Connor Murrays excellent box kicking and it will be a closer game than most think. Looking forward to it.
  10. I would think he was referring to bore size..Browning Crown at true bore according to them works best with Fibre...but I anecdoctally think this is all pretty marginal stuff.......I for example have a 2 3/4 chambered browning and a 3 inch browning.....can you tell any difference with a 23/4 black gold in either no is there difference in down range performane/kills...no.......how the heck is 25% performance difference measured??...Chrono at muzzle?....surely the performance should be judged at 40 yards. Alot of top end guns EELL/Heritages etc have 3 inch chambers and I would think 99% of cartridges put through them are 2 3/4 inch.........Would like to see some science etc...but I sure as hell don't feel 'disadvantaged' and have always shot Fibre.
  11. my Quack has recently charged me £40 to reply, this is a first..but on reflection why should a Dr have to pull a file & fill in a questionnaire etc for free...£40 sure is a lot less than my Solicitor would charge for similar task..and his main job is'nt keeping folk alive!!..Whilst initially cheesed off I then thought fair enough..As to the 5 years my FEo said it is to keep an eye on guns/check serial numbers/make sure none were 'falling off the radar'.I actually think Passports/Driving Licenses are similar..just keeps the ££ rolling in..so renewal for s/gun cost me £49 to Old Bill & £40 to Dr ;£89 over 5 years is @ 1 slab of game cartridges.......not end of the world is it..
  12. 525 is a great gun. Whether it is invector or Invector + would'nt worry me an iota.........I have both(invector 425/invector + Heritage 525) and have'nt ever noticed any difference...personally I don't like extended but both are readily available for both. 'Elite' was the name for Grade 3s so its got a bit more engraving/better wood. Better wood means just that...don't fret about the wood failing unless you intend to club things with it. atb.
  13. keep it as is..it is a trap gun/high bird gun. Then rather than spend £500-£600 messing with it go buy a 2nd hand multi choke sporter for skeet/sporting/hide gun etc.....personally I now think multi chokes are the devils distraction and rarely change what is stuck in!..Of all the important things of shotgun shooting I would put choke right down the bottom of the list..and if you ever came to sell a trap gun I would think the fact it has been 'messed' with would detract from its value..Dave Carrie 3/4 & 3/4 Digweed/Faulds full/full....don't tinker. atb
  14. glad you spotted it.Personally by using 2 different gauges at the same time effectively you did however increase the risk of this very known event.I am glad you 'got away with it' this time..
  15. if I were you I would do sale or return with a gunshop you know/trust.Auctions are v expensive and mainly used to shift 'tat'..or v top end stuff.Think 25% + vat.....

    oxtail

oxtail....awesome..try adding some dark chocolate to the sauce too & good slug of port/red wine....almost can't overcook....
  17. Saltings, If you hang a pheasant for 2-3 weeks at the mo it will turn green...hanging pheasant in my experience increases the gaminess not 'tother way round...?
  18. my 1st gun was an Anschultz bolt action 410,I recall that the back of the bolt could be slightly pulled back and turned into a little groove?..which acted as a safety catch, you simply twisted this back a little and away you went......?failing that if had to use would walk with gun up to sky'just watch your footing..whilst a safety catch is better than not any gun with one in the spout is not 'safe' though. Walking around with an Anschultz does half bring back a lot of memories and one still burnt into my head was a snap shot at 1 of 2 pigeon bursting from an ivy thicket I shot at the first and clean killed the second about 2 foot behind the 1st one!!..best ever lesson about lead!! I was 11/12yrs old and would go out alone for about 7/8 hours......not sure that would happen now though.....enjoy be safe.
  19. look at 2nd hand Browning Heritage too.......well looked after/near new at good prices..........if you are 'it must be new' then the Miroku is the 1 to buy...personally would not buy new again unless going down the 'full made to measure 'Perazzi type approach......a Mk60 is alot of gun for the money...a heritage is prettier if you like that sort of thing.......
  20. horrific, beretta make strong barrels so I would say more than a bit of wadding......must have been.a full blockage and it looks like the 'classic' cartridge on top of another if not a tight bit of cleaning patch.....horrendous.
  21. English Ladies netball.......had to Irish Rugby Union...from a small nation had a superb year..........
