  1. if they are index linked is'nt rpi running at @ 2.6%? from when do your pension companies take rpi/cpi? As nil increase and 1% seems a bit off the mark?
  2. To end up in court you would need to be arrested and charged...I have never heard of a shooter arrested shooting pigeons on land with permission under the auspices of the General licence. If you and/or your farmers are not familiar with the wording of the General licence or indeed do not feel you are complying with it then that is a question for yourselves to consider. English law/constitution is based around precedent/previous legal cases. Natural England lay out the principles of the general licence to give guidance around 'pests' & 'non protected species'. You will not get a written black & white' rule book because there isn't one. Farmers plant crops, typically in rotation and for most of the year. Stubble shooting is an optimum/effective time to do your crop protection with minimal damage to the fields/crops. If you are not happy with that then don't shoot. Do pigeons eat crops? Yes. Do dead pigeons eat crops? No. This question arises frequently your 'best defence' if you feel you need one is to read the General Licence and assure yourself that you are complying to it as you interpret it.I know a good number of Lawyers/Barristers that shoot species under the general licence none to my knowledge would feel a prosecution would further their careers.....
  3. or keep it in a decent gunslip in his safe if that worried about it?..just don't put it in wet will be fine.
  4. take a far old time to defrost, allow 10 hours.......usually replace freezer/decoy ones each time as they can get rank pretty quick, especially in summer......fortnight ago used the microwave to assist in the defrost......would have worked too if I had set it to defrost......9 minutes on full power had 'em leaking from orifices I did'nt know existed...feathers went a bit 'funny' too...... I only keep @ 6 in the freezer.......enough to get going with the rotary/flapper......
  5. JDog, top work you smooth-talker.
  6. Wheat ready to come in 10 days ago but rain has messed this up......still v little flat patches but this year the pigeons are actually balancing on the tops...If stays sunny for 2-3 days will be combined early next week...13 fields and @ 300 acres to bring in..currently way too wet.
  7. barley seed in ear £579 vet bill lesson learnt.(on a lab about 10 years ago would guess operation would be alot more today)also caused dog alot of stress....
  8. dogs & Barley don't mix. if no whirly just put a few decoys on the angled flat bits/as high up as you can so they are seen.atb
  9. yep I would just stick a flapper/whirly in the laid part.....have fun!
  10. I would not dream of doing anything other than use a solicitor. It is a big asset and you want to do it right. I am v near Horsham. I used a big Guildford firm. Rawlison Butler in Horsham have a good nameI I have no connection have not personally used them). Yes it will probably cost a bit but why scimp on such a minefield/large value transaction...especially as you are far away. Personally think trying to save a few hundred quid is a false economy.
  11. without seeing/knowing this gun that is a great price.......
  12. as above,I would say don't buy anything at this point as you need to decide between s/s and o/u as a fundamental well before deciding which actual gun...for your budget the 2 guns identifed(AYA & Lanber) are sound makes but really need to go shoot a few guns first/decide the s/s v o/u bit then worry about actual gun.
  13. what a lovely view from your hide........stunning.
  14. whilst pheasant probably more 'curryable' I think it s a great idea..why not extend to pigeon & rabbit...
  15. presume it is 12gauge....30-32g pretty standard loads.......so cannot see aproblem.
  16. Nigel Brown book your friend. made guns from The Strand London/was well known as a live pigeon shooter and specialized in live pigeon guns...the banning of these and 1st world war hit his business. good reputation/good guns;is it a live pigeon gun?(long barrelled/heavy/well choked)?. Will look up the serial number when in office(if listed) otherwise Gunman is right Batha bought name and all records in 2004 so for definitve answer you could email his office.(think he is in States)..
  17. good english s/s from regional makers........both hammer and hammerless........non ejector guns from great makers are really cheap at the moment......whats your budget?..
  18. something about the smell of paper.......not tired sipes in paper but love their 26g/28g 20 bore shells...
  19. do you just use it on shoots or many road miles??..had an old landy v8 just for off road/shooting for years......it was fine just keep water topped up.......if used for trips/on road it will let go at some point whatever 'gunk' you chuck in to it......
  20. of whatever criteria you come up with I would put multi-choke as last/least important......The Heritage is a Miroku it is just finished/engraved in Liege........MK60/70/425/525/heritage basically same thing it is just wood/engraving/tarty bits on top.....Dave Carrie likes grade 5 as it is heavier/better stock...all fine guns...all you are spending at your budget is effectively body work....the basic engine is the same and a fine engine it is too......
  21. Dipper, I was just comparing gamebore blackgolds....if you want sheep parts included pay lots and I cannot believe there is a ballistic difference......have no idea about roll your own.....
  22. if buying new you spend 20% on vat @ 10% dealer(fair enough) so in reality you are getting @ £2,600 worth of gun for your £3,500.If go 2nd hand and tidy nick most of the guns above @ £3,500 will be worth £3,500 tomorrow and the next day....the majority of these more premium guns are also well looked after.. I think you will be v lucky to find a good b25 under 5k...heritage brownings are out there......you state you are not mad on Berettas...have you seen/held/fired a EELL.....to me at your price range the gun to get and ideally a slightly older one......CGs shoot nicely but don't hold their value(maybe helps you buying a 2nd hand one)...obvoiusly just my view but having been through your quandary(a few times....dont tell the wife)I think I would be between a heritage if 12g and a eell if 20g..........have fun choosing.....
  23. This..can be only reason for announcing it now.....
