  1. Well its not bad all over the country, i sent in my renewal extremely late to leicestershire, it was ten days from posting the renewal to having my new licence delivered by the feo at the same time as my visit, two days after my certificate expired! He did tell me it wasnt good to leave it so late and would i refrain from doing it again! then he went on to tell me it wouldn't affect him anyway as he'd be retired by then!
  2. Hmmm looks like I'll be starting a wanted thread! There's a nice browning 425 elite on guntrader, the engraving is a bit dull but nice woodwork, only problem is it's a lefty, is it hard/expensive to change the cast?
  3. Sorry I think you have misunderstood, I never said anything about thinking they were no good, I think it would be a great gun hence the topic but just wanted some views from people that actually use them! If I were to buy one it would be for a bit of a change in the hide and if that developed into using it on driven days then great, cartridge cost would be more likely to keep it in the slip than anything else
  4. Some great positive responses I think I'm going to start looking! I was expecting more negative with people saying they are boys or lady's guns, thankfully that's not been the case. Thinking back I have never forgotten the day I went to look at a 525 twelve bore at the countryman in derby and looking in the rack picked out a gun that I thought was the one I'd seen on guntrader, it felt amazing, light and pointable and in my head I'd already bought it, then it dawned on me that the barrels were very small, I looked at the ticket expecting it to say 20 bore but when I saw 28 I put it back in the rack feeling a bit daft but I've never forgot about it!
  5. Simple question really does anyone use a 28 on pigeons regularly? Reason for asking is that since swapping my 12 for a 20 i have have been thinking about a 28 bore, i love the 20 bore and seeing that similar loads are available for the 28 I thought it could be a bit of fun to have in the hide, i don't think id want to use one on driven game but for proper decoyed birds a light pointy thing suits me just fine any opinions appreciated as i have never shot one
  6. just to add i think ecigs will soon go the same way, alright its not like fag smoke and some smell nice but its the personal space issue, its like farting in an enclosed space and saying its ok because it didn't smell that bad! A friend of mine has just gone back to smoking baccy because the e-liquid is too expensive!! And after six months without a fag i was gobsmacked!
  7. i can't help but think if they were to allow "smoking only pubs" which barred kids and anyone under the legal age to smoke they would all be empty, times change, no doubt the ban had an affect on pubs but the following recession not long after the ban really killed off any pubs that were struggling, local to us we now have a few very good pubs that do really well and just a few stragglers left which are surviving but only just. The good ones that do well have good food, great beer from local breweries are kid friendly at the right times and have nice inviting summer beer gardens with well placed smoking areas for those that wish to partake, the survivors contain the last few smokers who stand out the front coughing, wheezing and moaning about "old times" and immigrants then return to "their" seat next to the sticky bar. i was a smoker before the ban but had always planned to give up when i turned 30 which for me coincided with the ban, i remember well the sickly stench of my clothes the next morning after a night at the pub and am glad we will never go back to that.

    wellies

Had the parcours for five years or so and they've been great, unfortunately they've been replaced with the parcours ISO 2 which just don't fit my wide feet as well as the originals
  9. I bought some upholstery foam off eBay, they do samples for 99p or something like that and are big enough to cut down to a circle before g enough to cover the seat. I think mine is two or three layers deep and covered with a waterproof cover from another old seat but you could easily make something. I just carry this extra cushion in my bag. How anyone can sit for any length of time on the padding provided is beyond me!!
  10. You must be an accomplished clay shot if you have just started and are getting 2.25:1 ? Pigeon shooting is not easy and when I started I was happy with three birds for a box of shells, these days 3:1 is annoying and 2:1 I'm happy. Like most though I can easily hit five on the bounce followed by missing the same!
  11. Have just had land that I gamekeep on checked as the feo had changed and it had been a while since they had checked it, as a side note I also wrote the permission letter for my father in law to shoot firearms over the land even though I am not the land owner, have never heard of this before but the feo said it was absolutely fine
  12. The builder should have picked this up well before it came to this, if it were me I would do it for nothing as a good will gesture, its a days work and a new window, no big deal
  13. 10 years ago when I split with my ex I was paying £600 a month for our mortgage, she was at uni and I paid for everything, we got the mortgage easily because her family lent us a substantial deposit, when I tried to put the mortgage solely in my name they were having none of it saying I didn't meet the criteria and had to sell the house. I then used the small amount of equity to put a deposit on a shared ownership property, the combined rent and mortgage payment were £660 a month. Madness.
  14. Depends on the day but I like it at the front of the pattern if I can , nearer the hide, that way it draws them for a look and hopefully in range before they spook
  15. Sounds like a great day but why shoot such vastly different loads?
  16. Is nobody else on here self employed? What the hell is a day off?
  17. No doubt about it these are the best way to get a beginner an idea of "how much lead" also great the way in one short video we see different techniques for different birds, but the price of these things is truly shocking, at £200 I think they would sell 10x the amount
  18. Download a free app called "measure my land" brilliant for checking before you set off or in the field. Used it many times to check distances from roads before setting up decoys, have had quite a few surprises too!
  19. Nobel speed 28g 6, about £210 per 1000 , all you will ever need.
  20. Depends on the type of beading as to how difficult to get out but I always use a putty knife (carefully) also remember to mark which way round the glass was as it may have a low e coating one side which you can't see

    Ash dieback.

Looking around our 450 acre shoot the other day trying to imagine it with no ash, a very bleak future for a lot of mature woods. Has anyone actually put a timescale on it all?
  22. You will be happy with it I'm sure, I fill mine as heavy as I can carry including cartridges and it's still good as new after two or three years, I'm really suprised sitsinhedges finds things poke through? The material is super tough cordura and I don't think I could push a hide pole through if I tried??

    makita power tools

Always had bosch until last time it got nicked, all makita now and very happy with it, just don't but the low end carp from screwfix
  24. Must admit I've never owned a paslode but have recently bought the hitachi one, after completing a BIG roof on some old barns using approx ten thousand nails only issues were a double nail fire maybe ten times and the piston not returning to the correct position once. Also it fires the firmahold nails like a dream and they are cheap but just as good quality as the paslode nails. Only other minor niggle which I'm sure any of these would suffer from is through the winter on very cold mornings it was sometimes hesitant to fire the next nail, best solution was to take the gas out and put it down your jumper for five minutes!!
