  1. Totally agree with this. For years i was fixated on 32gm 6 for pigeon, sometimes even buying 36gm! Then cartridge prices started to rise steeply and i tried other options. I soon found that an ounce of 7.5 would easily take care of a 40 yard pigeon and therefore are mustard on 40 yard partridge. I don't shoot many pheasants, but have no problem in using a size 7 on them, unless it's a high bird shoot - but then i'm talking 60+ yards- which i probably wouldn't want to do anyway.
  2. I think the point that Grandalf is trying to make is that it is much nicer to read the story behind the pile of dead birds and not just a picture - like you did the other day with your write up about the greylag flight.
  3. Is that 48gm of steel? If it is, i would love to know the recipe as i can't find anything over 42gm that can be pushed at 1400fps through a 12. Did you buy the gun at an auction by any chance?
  4. I recently had an extremely poor flight recently as far as my shooting was concerned. If anyone has seen Muncher's 'Evening pinkfoot flight' in the video section, you may hear a few other shots. I was 150 yards to his right. I must have had as many shots as him, but while he came off with 5 pinks i could only manage to plane a bird out behind me (which i didn't find). I walked back along the sea wall after the flight feeling totally gutted.
  5. I've only had four pinks, this season, so far. Maybe i'll get a few under the moon...
  6. Maybe i'm not fussy, but i shoot (generally) very well with my xtrema. It doesn't seem bulky, handles just fine and i've killed most things with it. I've used it on all kinds of targets and it is mustard in the pigeon hide. I can't understand how anyone could have a problem with one.
  7. I've had the pinks over my house for the last three nights, and some as late as 11pm!
  8. Nice video. I was going to ask if that was the night where you shot well and i missed everything, but then i heard towards the end 'oy', when my dog came and nicked one of your pinks. That was a good flight, shame i couldn't hit them.
  9. I load big steel shells in 12 and 10 bore. That's where i make savings, but's for me it's not about that.Reloading is enjoyable in it's own right, and i take pleasure in shooting ducks and geese on the foreshore with my own loads. I can load 1 1/2 of steel T with a muzzle velocity of 1550 fps (10 Bore). You simply can't buy loads like that.
  10. Nice shooting on the video, by the way. And i wish my dog was as well behaved as yours.
  11. On the marsh i've had a quite poor start. I only shot my first ducks there yesterday, with 3 mallard, 1 wigeon and 1 teal making it into the bag. Should've had a couple more mallard, though. I've only had 3 pinks on the foreshore, due to inexplicably poor shooting, and there is nothing more demoralising than having plenty of good chances and killing nothing, especially when the bloke 100 yards to your left walks off the marsh with 5! Inland, i've had nearly 30 geese (mainly greylag) and about 15 duck.
  12. Hmmm. That voice, gun and dog seem quite familiar.....
  13. Nice bag. It's always nice to get a few different species in one flight. Peter came and had a few goose flights with me last week. Shame he didn't end up with a pink or two in the bag.
  14. Having stubbles to shoot is one thing, having food on the stubbles is another.
  15. Went out this morning. Pinks were fairly low but most passed just wide. :(
  16. For 60/80p i wouldn't waste my time. That's a fair bit of work.
  17. I've loaded some 2oz B shells for on the marsh, although, being hevi shot, it's not all size B.
  18. There are quite a few getting about. I've shot a couple this week.
  19. Well done. I'll bet you'll visit that field again.
  20. Tigger, is that K/L marsh? Any pinks about?
  21. I just use a boresnake.
  22. I'm sure you realise i used other cartridges that day.
  23. The shape of the shot has very little bearing on pattern. Hevishot through open chokes should give the best patterns.
  24. Used about 100 kent 29gm last week when i shot 231 pigeons. They are a very good cartridge, nearly everything i fired at came down stone dead.
