  1. I own both, but I find myself getting the 725 (Hunter) out of the cupboard more often than anything else. If I had to make the choice the 725 is what I'd go for but if the 525 fitted better you'd be daft to choose the other...... immaterial really cos as you say the 725 is already gone
  2. I've done it several times............ and I shoot clays like Ben Turpin having a bad day
  3. I was stunned when it all closed up at 11pm (I think), before I went I had visions of drinking til the early hours.... by the way it's obligatory to nick one of the steins ... but they go ballistic if ya get caught
  4. Terrible thing to lose your daughter, there can't be a day goes by she's not in your thoughts. Lovely to see these youngsters taking an interest, I haven't taken my four year old out in the field yet but he is always keen to see whatever I have when I come home, even rummaging through the bags of pigeons and handing them to me whilst I clean them. As for your son ..... my brother and I were brought up shooting, fishing, ferretting and trapping, he was keen as mustard in the early years (I not so much) by the time we were ten we both were. He dropped out of it in his mid/late teens and hasn't lifted a gun since.... I've been out a couple of times a week for the last 40 years... I guess we all tread our own path
  5. Ya shouldn't take things to heart Deershooter........ there's always someone willing to pick at ya for their own entertainment, ..... personally I normally ask " what yer got in 22 subs"
  6. Is this the 'your FEO wouldn't like it' thread?
  7. Fantastic shots....I know the fishermen don't think too much of 'em..... but me... as you say you gotta love 'em
  8. Just pour some Sauza or cuervo in a cheap bottle of lager.... it'll probably be just as foul, but cheaper.... Failing that Costco knock Desperado out by the boxful
  9. Haven't heard one since I moved to Herts...... There were plenty dahn sarf... not seen bullys, but got plenty of skylarks
  10. Absolutely spot on.................. Beyond that I give em half an inch higher up to 150yds .... but if you're good enough to shoot half an inch of difference consistantly at 150yds, at night, off sticks ... you're a better man than I am..
  11. You could always get your current o/u barrels chromed, I don't think chroming temps are high enough to seperate your barrels and chroming is only a few thou thick so you should be able to stone it back into your action. Also means you can have the gun of your choice instead of any old thing just cos it's chrome........ Don't think it's a good idea though,......... I sprayed my old pigeon gun matt black some years ago, having seen the barrels flash on video, figured that the pigeons could see that a mile away, but once you've done I'm not sure there is any going back
  12. ooops finger trouble..... Meant to say, sound advice from ben0850 , gets my vote
  13. If you are having trouble cleaning it, just check that it isn't one of the old style coated lenses with a damaged coating. I normally use a lens cleaning pen and/or a lens cloth, always clean in circular fashion out towards the edge (don't zig zag), I got a lens greasy once so cleaned it with soapy water, came up fine, but I wouldn't recommend it
  14. I'm in the US at the moment, heading home tomorrow.... look for a Cabelas as well if they haven't got what your looking for in Bass pro Cabelas will have, and vice versa.... Sportsmans Warehouse always worth a look too..... and no I can't bring you anything back my cases are full and my pockets are empty
  15. Swans regularly ended up on the table during the war years, I'm told that they are very greasy and scummy to cook but make a reasonable casserole ingredient..... desperate times
  16. I visit the states frequently and therefore am constantly buying dollars and tracking the exchange rate, whilst it is predictable in the short term. It's fluctuations over six months or so is anybodies guess, you may as well predict the lottery numbers. I solved my problems with a Fair FX card, I load it up over several months at a better than high street exchange rate then use it like a debit card whilst out there (no fees). It's better than carrying wadges of cash and if you need cash you can pull it out of an ATM for a smaller fee than your UK card or bank will rob you.
  17. I went along on the Saturday, and a has already been said, thought it was a bit pricey. If entrance fee had included registration I would have felt a little less robbed. .... Not as much there as I had expected, but still glad I went, nice to have the chance to handle prospective purchases in the flesh and make comparisons. Hopefully next year they'll expand it a little. Didn't see any 'Pigeon Watchers' there probably walking around with my blinkers on ...... perhaps Pigeon Watch ought to front a members hospitality tent .......
  18. I was brought up on a sxs and still use one by preference,I can't figure out why people say they kick more than a o/u surely that's governed by your cartridge choice, perhaps someone could explain this!!! I often put 36gram winchester super speeds through mine if I'm shooting something that needs it and don't have any probs. I remember Litts (the one over the bridge) used to let you put a box of carts through any gun (2nd hand) on their grounds if you were serious about buying it but obviously no gunshop is going to let you take a gun away for a couple of weeks, If you find somewhere to try a gun for the day would that be enough of fair trial?? though I admit some guns I've tried one cartridge has been enough, fitting being all with any gun!! The best gun is the one you can use the best whatever the config.... though being 'old school' I still would rather see sxs in use on pheasant shoots , o/u still don't look right to me.... having said all that I do own two o/u as I don't want to bring my kids up on old fashioned sxs. I'd rather they started in the new world and did't get stuck in outdated ways ..... like me I regularly pass through Sussex and have 12g 20g and 410 in sxs, so if you get desperate I'm sure something can be arranged
  19. Stunning pic Doc, .........If it was landing I hope you warned it that it had forgotten to put the cart down
  20. Having previously spoken to my licensing office my father and I wrote all of our guns onto both of our certificates, when the certs came up for renewal, sent a covering letter explaining that we had pooled our guns so that either could use them with no 72 hour hassle, also if one of us was away for any time, the guns were moved to the others premises as a security measure. This meant each gun was registered twice (once on each certificate) This worked fine for many years. When he passed away all I had to do do was inform his licensing office quoting my cert number and his. problem free
  21. How obvious... ya see, thats why shes suspicious of me... it's the way my mind works
  22. My Mrs is suspicious enough of me as it is.... I don't think I'd get away with using that as an excuse for having stockings in my pocket
  23. Gutted for you mate she's a beautiful girl.... so sad to lose her before you really had a chance to enjoy her
