  1. Furthest target around 400 yds longest shot with HMR was a humongous 200 +. But then we didn't have any of the Walters turn up to show us how they go on at there ranges.
  2. To be honest the choice is entirely up to the individual, obviously the cost will be the deciding factor with regards to your chosen rifle, one thing to think about is how are you going to be using it on foot or from a vehicle, not really a silly question but worth thinking about with regards to the weight. The Sako SS laminate is no light weight at around 8lb then add to that a scope and mod. I have one and after a rebarrel its about 14lb, that was my choice and i live with it. But its not one i now use for walking about, its truck use only. I am luck enough to have another 22.250 that is allot lighter for walking about with, thats an old Tikka M55 re-barreled. The 1-14 twists will shoot 50-55 very well and i find them more than adequate for the job, but chose to have my other in a 1-12 for shooting the 53grn v-max ( of which i am finding it hard to find at the moment) It will shoot the 60grn v-max, plus other's but at the moment only just started to sort out a load for the 60s.
  3. Not sure but I think Sakos will be 1-14 twist. So 60s will be a tad risky although some do manage apparently. 50 & 55 will be good or anything in between. Sako are nice but cost more,
  4. Quite easy with a body that size, I doubt it was sunstroke as such, he just got a bit sweaty
  5. Have you paired both with the parrot?
  6. Seems to me they just do it in a 20" now i know that when i got mine it was 24" but it was a while ago. Dont worry you will soon shoot it out Simon Then you can put one on as long as you want. Let me know how you get on with it out on a long walk. Mine weighs in at a tad under 14lb. Even the pick-up struggles at times when i take it out , When you end up with a smooth bore i would go with a 12" twist next time and 26"
  7. Ask him if would be OK to keep a guard dog in there that should deter any thieves. Obviously you would need to keep food and water in there. Sorry for the silly answer water in with guns is not a good idea, maybe you could fit one of those drinking bottles to the outside and feed the tube through a small hole. Coat on and going for a beer
  8. I used these to enlarge the holes for the pillars, as you imagine they no precision cutting tools. I didnt really think it would matter if they were not straight or parallel, as long as they were square to the action in the end. Its OK you cant see them anyway Forgot they are 15mm & i used the PoLo mint for size
  9. Sparkie & Fister are pw member's. I used a wood grinder tool to enlarge the hole's for the pillars. I had to be careful due to having a small amount of wood to play with, I thought I would have more control direction wise with the grinder bit.
  10. I used remy pillars i got from Sparkie via Fister, they needed some trimming prior though due to them bieng too wide for the rear and too long for the front recoil area. The thickness vary's from about 1mm around the top side of the stock then approx 5mm were it was possible obviously i wasnt wanting to over do it in case i went through, and around the re-coil lug its about 7mm deep and then hollowed out as much as i dare at the sides around it. There's around 2mm around the pillars were possible again drilled into the stock side ways for a stronger bond along the length of the hole for the pillars. Its done the job well, no movement now. Just see what it shoots like on Sunday at catton, mind you it was a shooter before so i'll see Devcon i got from Cromwell £27
  11. If they were rifle primers i would say excessive pressures, there well and trully fluffed. Could it be pierced primers due to protruding.
  12. Sorry Dekers, i had just woke up and didnt read your post properly. The action wobbled in the stock from side to side by about 1.5mm. I suppose being over 30 years old its allowed be a little loose. I am sure if i did bed another rifle it would be easier, as i know what to expect now
  13. It was quite worry knowing I could totally fluff it all up. I think that's why that I saw the (well to me anyway) funny side. But that's what I do I guess.
  14. Pictures now added.
  15. A very tallented singer, and good looks too. Not that i can watch it cus i'm at work, but i clocked her in the auditions and had to replay it a few times, she puts so much feeling and emotion in her songs. I hope she does well.
  16. I have just completed a beeding job on a Tikka M55, and i must say when i got it all prepped up i and ready for the Devcon to go in i began to have butterfly's like never before. What happens if i get a lock in i have heard its disaster and a new stock on the cards Have i filled in ALL the little holes what if i've missed one What if the gunk gets somewere its not supposed to and it fluffs the whole rifle up I got the Mrs to get a bumper pack of cotton buds, rubber gloves i borrowed from work,(must take them back) a load of paper towels cut loads of wooden sticks for scraping off the over flow of gunk, checked for fit, about 10 times, and had a coffee. Checked over the prepped work top (in the kitchen) (Oh! it was well covered with a very large polythene bag cut in half and spread every were) The Mrs did a runner just in case she said she wouldnt be back till later This is it then here i go for the mix, it was bloody hard work at first its stiff stuff to begin with but soon gets soft as you mix in the hardner. I mixed the whole pot as i was adviced, just in case you mis judge it at runn out 1/2 a kilo pot what was i thinking i could have bedded a skud rocket laucher All mixed now got to go for it if its going to happen, or do i just chuck it in the bin and forget it, do i really need to put myself under this type of stress . Well i started to fill in the mass void i had created with my new dremmel bit with the gunk, was there enough, well silly question really i had lost sight of what was once a nice looking piece of wallnut, so i assumed there would be enough in there with still 1/2 of the mix left. So like a man possesed i grabed hold of the action and placed it over the stock, checked the extra long action screws were seating into the pillars and down she went, dam it wont go all the way, something wrong, panic i've fluffed it, my stomach was turning over and over was i going to be sick no chill out re-focus calm down its someting silly, but what I had put the pillars in the wrong positions, muppet swapped them over and made a right mess on the poly sheet oooops good job Mrs was out, tried again and this time it was good Gunk oooozzzing out every were i think there was enough in. Cleaned up the excess with 100000 cotton buds and a roll of towel its was looking good. Tighten town the action with the nuts slightly, left it for an hour and had a good clean up. Then gave the nuts a few more turns and removed the gunk that was oozing out. left it for another 20 mins then did a better clean up of the action and stock. I was impressed, but wasnt out of the woods yet, i had the mega worry of the dreaded lock in. It was done not turning back, put it back inthe cabinet for a day and forgot all about it, yes of course i did Sunday morning came round and i had to do it, out of the cabinet it came, and out the shed came the big mallet. Here we go then poo or bust, WACK on the barrel just at the end of the stock, it didnt move, it was solid, Oh! dear ! i wacked the action over the bolt housing then wacked the barrel again. it was then i nearly had an orgasm the action started to come out of the action i eased it out gently, which was funny as i'de just knocked 7 bells out of it, it was free and WOW what a brilliant job all nice and shiny what an expert i was a genius. A little bit more work with the dremmel to remove the over spill and its now all back together and all is working well I have just rubbed down the stock and given it a coat of oil its looking really nice if i say so myself. A few more coats and a bit of buffing and it will look amazing. Thanks for reading, pictures to follow in the morning i'm just off to bed. dougy theres a couple of small chips on the bedding and a funny triangle from tape on the recoil lug inlet but its as tight as a ducks bum with the action
  17. No lol mobile phone and fingers too big..lol
  18. Could you bring to Catton.please If so I will have them
  19. I have the IR plus green and red LED, Brilliant piece of kit, i got one for use whilst on my own, i must say ease of use compared to a lamp and a battery is such a doddle. I do still use a cluson LED for spotting though if on foot. I think the white will be tooooo bright for bunnies,Fox's well i'm not sure i've only used the red with good results, the Green will get used this coming week (weather permitting).
  20. No i was being a little sarcastic. Its rather hard to understand that all though its a legal requirement to register mods on your ticket as they are classed as a fire arm, i know they on there own are quite harmless. But they do require a condition to obtain. But if you dont have any reg number then you can only put down on your ticket " mod for 30 cal" or simalar. If FLO dont inforce it then how are we supposed to follow it - to the letter, answer is we cant and they will find it even harder to enforce it it they done follow "there" ruling. If you change a mod at your local RFD then who knows you have changed it if in the first place you have no serial number to check against.
  21. I thought, as Dekers is saying it needs to be registered on your ticket. Yet Boris is saying there is no serial number from the mod entered on his ticket, so question 1 Who is at fault, 2 If no mod has been registered then has Boris actually got a mod or has he imagined it, hence its broken I have no mod serial numbers actually noted on my ticket, of which i have 5, i have had no issues with the fire arms office, they have been made aware of the issue due to past problems with a mod, this was not all that long ago. And i have just checked out of 5 mods i have 2 with a serial numbers on so the other 3 dont exist.
  22. I too agree with Grandalf I thought, all though not exclusive to PW mwmbers, it had been organised for PW forum members. If its open to the www "Facebook" "Tweeter" and who Knows what or who will be turning up. Sparkie needs to pay for the use of the range, and needs to know how many people are going, just imagine what it would be like if a load of people turned up, un-invited and un-accounted for. PS. face book
  23. Fox or badger. Is there access for either? Check for hole's around property.
  24. I found in the past that the speaker on my mobile was good enough for calling them in, I used one of my old ones that i just used on a top up/pay as you go tariff, for calling out in the field, it was a brilliant idea until i had the Mrs call it and there was Simply Red in the middle of the field singing "Every Time We Say Goodbye"
