  1. I love these arguments. Firstly KW is bemoaning posters who have an opposing view that they are generalising and then starts to generalise in his response. Which way is up ?
  2. Salary was just above minimum wage and more than the benefits that I received whilst I was eligible. Speaking to the Asians there, they were UK residents and having to make it work on this salary. My point was that if they can manage on the work, and stick at it, why cant UK kids ? I fall into the 40+ category and for me it was simple. I had a few savings so couldn't claim benefits after 6 months so rather than lose the house I would go and do a job which I didnt see as below me. Others were using it as pocket money but there were plenty that were in a similar situation to myself. Graduates fell into two camps - the ones who had gone to uni rather than getting a proper job and some real quality who I would have employed without question. The quality graduates were getting full time 'proper' jobs as their results came in. Benefits scroungers, I have experienced first hand. One example being a couple with four kids who have no intentions of working as they work the system and have more disposable income than I have.
  3. After years of paying plenty into the system I fell foul at the beginning of the recession and lost my job. My lasting memories of the job centres was of work shy chavs having a last cig before going through the motions, having no intention of taking a job. I took a low paid temp. job to keep the roof over our heads while I found a job that would pay the mortgage. I saw plenty of third generation unemployed leave the temporary work as it was boring or too much like hard work. The people who stuck at the work were graduates, 40 years plus or Asian. The jobs are there if people want to work. Benefits should not be a 'benefit'. Pay benefits for 6 months. If the person has not found work during this time, remove the benefits and give them vouchers for food. I know that this is a fairly extreme but it would stop our money funding cigs, plasma screens, smart phones and x box games and encourage people to take a job.
  4. Ive had my Dogtra for about 7 years and although I havent used it often I've had no issues with it. John Humphris is a good website to see a range of collars I tested my collar on myself and it isnt a case of coursing thousands of volts through the dog. Vibrate is often enough to stop the dog.
  5. E collar wouldnt be my first choice to fix this. As was said before, socialisation with other dogs and positive experiences would be a better fix. If you use an e collar on too high a setting the dog can think it is being attacked which could make him fight more. That said, I did use an e collar with a friends dog that was bullying their other dog. Nothing aggressive but barging through, knocking the other dog over. I set the collar to a light stim rather than a 'belt' and let them play on some open land. As soon as the dog was going in with intent I gave it a nick which stopped the dog bullying. The nick was so slight that the owners didnt realise that I was stimming the dog. After a couple of sessions we cured the bullying. If you are buying a collar, Dogtra are very good but dont come cheap
  6. A couple of home brews tonight. Own recipe dark belgian beer weighing in at about 7.5%
  7. I prefer my beers to most shop bought beers but here are some shop beers I like Thornbridge Jaipur - Black IPA Thornbridge Raven - IPA Bellhaven Twisted Thistle - Pale fresh tasting beer (I make my own version of this which I prefer) More mainstream beers are White Shield Bass
  8. When I looked at electric shredders I wasnt impressed with them. You couldnt chuck a load of branches in at once and the shredded material want that well shredded. I went for a petrol driven shredder that will handle bigger branches and take bigger bundles of material in. The petrol one will clog if you shred wet hedge clippings which is a real pain. Things may have moved on since I bought my shredder about 10 years ago and the electric machines may be more up to the job
  9. The women there are stunning. When we went out looking for a property we stayed in a hotel in Borgas where there was a spiral staircase in the hotel foyer leading down to a lap dancing bar. One of the barmaids worked days upstairs and nights downstairs. And yes, I only failed on 2 counts
  10. Just back from a break in Bulgaria and had to smile when I saw this on the door of the bank. Excuse the quality - I had to snap it with my phone without upsetting security. No cameras, no phones and no guns. Kind of puts it into perspective of the danger of these three devices.
  11. With premium tyres youre paying partly for the name but also for the rubber compound and the research around tyre construction and tread pattern. With cheaper tyres, to get similar grip levels the rubber is softer and so wears out quicker.
  12. I'm on L200 forum Jims Beer Kit ProtecUK9 (working dog forum) Leerberg (another working dog forum) DDR Legends (working dog forum based mainly on DDR & Czech lines) I visit some more than others
  13. Two cartridges was all it would take. One for the fox and the other for the carthorse rottie. What a waste of dog food
  14. They were normal road tyres that were used. Cant remember the name of the company but it seemed to be a bit of advertising in exchange for a bit of discount.
  15. I was on a Jonathan Palmer race day some years ago where we were giving the cars some serious abuse around Bruntingthorpe. At the end of the days playing we were told that all of their cars were running on remoulds. If you can rag Mercs, Caterhams, Golf VR6 (it was some time ago) around various twisty and power courses on remoulds then I dont see the problem with the family runabout using them. That said, I wouldnt use them on my cars as it still doesnt sit well with me.
  16. Pros - should get a good deal not having a chain Cons - Nothing to do to a new house once you have the inside and outside to your liking (or is that a pro ?)
  17. working dog

    Cake

Any of the above except battenburg or any cake containing marzipan (the devils food) But a nice moist deep carrot cake does it for me
  18. Not sure if we were wrongly advised but we looked to claim for our policy being mis sold but were told that because it was taken out before a certain date, we couldnt claim. I think we took the policy out in 1986 and it did fall short of the projected number. Luckily we didnt need the money to pay off the mortgage 25 years later.
  19. Sell 'em cheap and charge through the nose for spares. Invest your money in a decent double edge razor and some good blades. For £30 you'll have a years shaving with a bit of quality engineering.
  20. Selling my Epson R800 photo printer. Its in good condition but I need a scanner and fax so have bought an all in one printer to replace it. The printer comes with a continuous ink system made by efillink which makes it cheaper to print compared to original cartridges. Standard cartridges can also be used. The printer uses 8 inks including two blacks and photo optimiser (a clear ink). Prints A4 and smaller and has an insert to print CD labels. I'll chuck in a set of dye inks that Ive recently bought (currently using pigment inks so this would need flushing through). As with all inkjet printers, if you dont use it often the jets will block up. I have some ink flush fluid that I'll add as well which cleans the nozzles. Looking for £30 for the lot which is a bargain. Collection from Rotherham area only.
  21. Thats not the case. Any commercial waste that is non hazardous needs to move on a waste transfer note. Regular waste collections (eg. bin collections from commercial premises) move on a season ticket which is still a WTN. If you produce more than 500kg of hazardous waste pa you need to be registered as a hazardous waste producer.
  22. If this is commercial waste, as has been mentioned before, the scrap will be classified as waste and needs to be moved with a waste transfer note. This will track the waste from producer to scrappy and when its changed into a finished product (steel ingots etc). Every person involved in the chain has a duty of care to ensure that the waste is disposed of correctly. Any vehicle carrying waste needs a carriers license - this would include things like wire offcuts and small bits of trunking for a sparky for example - extreme but if the EA want to take it to the letter, this is the case. There are arguments that scrap is a commodity and is not a waste - in the EA's eyes, this is a waste. There are EA guidelines around WTNs and as long as the standard information is on the form you can create your own WTN. Edit : Meant to say that I'm not part of the EA. We have a waste management and consultancy company so I get bombarded with this stuff every day.
  23. I have 2 cornies of Ruddles County clone 1 cornie Black IPA (my take on Thornbridge Raven) 2 cornies of a pale IPA using Amarillo, Cristal, Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops(my take on Buxtons Axe Edge) 2 cornies of Dark Belgian beer (7.5%) using WLP 550 yeast And 1 cornie of cider for the wife Will be dropping down from 45L brews to 23L brews now due to the hot weather hopefully being upon us (just got the one brewing fridge)
  24. If you like stout, try Muntons Imperial stout. Condition for 8 weeks, taste and congratulate yourself on making the best stout out there.
  25. Guilty as charged BIY forum and website closed a few weeks ago. No idea what happened but there was a lot of bad press on the forum before it finally closed. I'll look out for the HB threads and help out where I can. On kits, generally speaking, you get what you pay for. If they cost more its because there are more expensive ingredients in there. People expect a cheap kit to taste like nectar, try it after a few weeks and never brew again which is a shame. Buy decent kits, give plenty of time to mature and enjoy ! Its a while since I brewed kits but I'll advise on which kit to buy - just dont expect it to taste exactly like your favourite pint - it will be in the style of. If there are any AG brewers in the north who want some cheap malt I will be picking some up from Fawcetts soon - will be around £15 a sack which is a huge saving. If theres anyone who wants to learn how to brew All Grain and has a day to spare I am more than happy for them to join me on a brewday. Can even provide samples and a bacon butty through the day.
