  1. I recently had international calls which diverted to a second number as soon as they heard a voice. Needless to say, I hung up at that point. After a week or so of these calls I picked up the phone and left it on the side and after a few minutes I could hear "hello", "hello", "hello ?" they would finally hang up. After another week of the silent treatment the calls stopped. Another was a company whose opening gambit was "we sent you some information last week" to which I would reply "no you didnt" and go quiet. Every call was to invest in company X or some green exchange scheme. After a few polite "no thanks - we dont have spare cash to invest" they caught me off guard and after being told politely no, were told in no uncertain terms that I wasnt interested. I've had no further calls from this company either.
  2. The biggest frustration for me is that the insurance companies sell the list of accidents to these ambulance chasers, have claims made against them and then increase our policy prices to cover the additional costs that their industry has encouraged.
  3. Have a look at the Linksys WRT54GL wireless router This is a Linux based router and there is 3rd party firmware available which allows you to increase the wireless signal power Beware that there is a legal limit to the power output of a private wireless signal and I couldnt condone exceeding that
  4. That looks to be set up The nissan starts off in 4wd then gets stuck in 2wd before switching back to 4wd and successfully creates ruts so the wheels are going nowhere and dig into the mud Lots of power from the tractor to dig that in. All that said, some great toys there to play with
  5. A well hung lad I know is called Licko - because he can Another who talked rubbish was called **** lips Then theres Billy the Gate (no idea why) and **** pipe Dave (went to the Maldives with him and all he could talk about was a pipe that went out to sea that he inspected daily (loses a bit in translation but it was funny at the time) edit. Forgot - theres Richard who is another that is blessed in the trouser department. He's called Biggus because he doesnt like being called di ck
  6. Scrap metal from a business should already be tracked via a waste transfer note. That said, the skip rats that nick scrap from businesses would previously have taken it in with no questions asked. Its one step along the way to tidying up the scrap metal business although there are stories of people nicking lead off church roofs, being caught in the act and getting away with it. Putting a responsibility on the scrap dealers is a good move although there also needs to be a real deterrent through prosecution for stealing the stuff in the first place.
  7. Good luck with rehoming them. Most of ours feel the brush handle on the back of their neck once they are identified as cockerels.
  8. Another vote for Karndean here. We have it in our hallway and in one of the bathrooms. Its been down for 11 years now and still looks really good
  9. A black Lancia Delta. It had flimsy controls, soggy seats, spent as much time in the garage as on the road, would decide to under steer and then over steer. Hang on, I hated that car. Looking on autotrader someone still has the misfortune of driving G404 LAK. My favourite car was my green and rust Mk 1 Escort. It took up most of my money and gave me countless days repairing the rotten floor. That said, it got me to college a lot quicker than the previous three bus journeys and gave me more freedom. Sold it after a drunken conversation in a pub to a lad down the street. He then stoved the front end in and wrote it off.
  10. Its not something that I believe in but have family who messed about with it some years ago. Said that there were very plausible messages given and only they knew the obscure name of the person supposedly communicating with them. The name was spelled out. They are all very level headed people so I have no reason to doubt them. They packed in when they were getting bad messages coming through. I dont know the detail behind these messages but it freaked them out enough to pack in.
  11. I have a very strong bond with my dogs. They dont come into the house but I am out with them morning, afternoon (when possible) and in the outbuilding with them at night. They sleep in their kennels. There is no way that I'm going to share my food with something that sniffs its own ****, picks up dead animals and licks its ****. The dogs have chicken carcases for dinner, I have meat and veg - thats what they know and what they expect. They get scraps of veg and meat if theres any left overs but have this in their food bowls. They will watch me eat but dont try it on because they know they wont get anything. I dont see my bond being any stronger or weaker than the bond with a dog that is fed with its owner and has the run of the house. To me, they are dogs - they have a role to play and, much as I enjoy being with them, I dont humanise them.
  12. I wish ! Were doing ok but dont have stacks of spare cash. If I had that sort of money I'd need a bigger gun cabinet long before any thoughts of sponsorship.
  13. Its the wifes initials and the start of our company name. She bought the one on the MG about 7 years ago. Bought the other two in the last couple of years to hide the age of the cars - one from a dealer and the other from the DVLA auctions (a much cheaper option if they have the letters you are looking for.
  14. These The MG is the wifes (honest !) And a golf for work
  15. Old shape will run on veg oil. Youre looking at low 20's /gallon. If you test it, check that you can live with the turning circle as this was a failing of the old shape
  16. I have an L200 but not an animal so can give a bit of an idea for you. They are classed as commercial vehicles so tax on a new shape (I think) is £265/year. The new shapes are less agricultural than the classics but the drive is still a bit truck-like (as you'd expect from a truck). Comfort is good for a truck. The heated leather seats give a bit of comfort but the dash is more function than style. You have all the bits that you need (air con, sat nav, multi play CD etc)and they all work but there are no additional toys that you would get in a decent spec car. The extra bhp in the Animal gives a livelier response from the engine but you wont be racing matey in his corsa from the lights. I'm really pleased with mine. The driving experience is relaxed and it doesnt encourage you to go racing down the country lanes. Reliability wise, I've had the EGR valve fail on mine and thats been the only problem in 13 months of driving so I cant complain.
  17. I bought a ProQ smoker. Similar in design to the Webber but made in the UK. I'm very pleased with the results
  18. But if you try to chuck new coals on top of only a few embers you can guarantee that the fire will go out. Mine stay in a galvanised bucket for a few days before being put in the bin
  19. As a victim of the recession I saw how messed up the current system is. Having paid for the systems upkeep for 27 years I lost my job. I received the basic allowance (think it was £60 a week) for 6 months and that was the end of my benefits. If we had half a dozen kids or had squandered our money to the point of having no savings I would have been able to claim more. I'm not suggesting that I deserved more, just that the current system doesnt encourage people to go and find work or invest in their future. The scroungers would hang about the job centre entrance, smoking, until they went through the motions and played the game at their interview. I then took a temp job which paid peanuts, was repetitive and kept you constantly busy. The majority of people working there fit into 3 categories - students, over 40's and other nationalities. There were a few younger English temps working there but they tended to last up to 3 weeks before packing in, preferring a life on benefits. The big issue is that the current system is a benefit to them, rather than an existence. While I was doing the temp job my wife lost her job and decided to start her own business. As she was working more than 18 hours (as you would with a business start up) she was unable to claim. The system offered no real incentive to start a business although business link were keen to add our success onto their stats. The whole system needs a good shake up to provide enough to live, rather than live comfortably with alcohol, fags, tv, mobile phone, cars etc. If people want these luxuries they should earn them
  20. A few years ago on a clear night I remember witnessing flashing lights moving slowly from left to right in the distance. The lights started coming towards me, at which point I realised that it was a gritting lorry.
  21. It worked for me. Whatever system is in place there will be winners and losers and all systems will have their flaws.
  22. I bought one that fits on the end of the kenwood food mixer. It works well and the variable speed can be useful when filling the skins.
  23. I went last Sunday. Next time I go I'll get there earlier and buy 2 rounds to shoot at the same time as there was a lot of queuing for the stands (especially stand 2). It took just over 2 hours for a 25 bird shoot.
