  1. If you were closer I could lend you a broody hen. Take your pick from 6 of them at the minute If you can find one at the right money, buy an MS incubator - had very good results from ours.
  2. Give 'em daft names and plenty of hype and what was a £30 mongrel becomes a cash cow (although I dont think theyve made that cross just yet). I get the daft questions with my Bi colour shepherd. I imagine that the owners of these 'special' breeds revel in the SFQs. Best questions Ive had so far are : "Nice looking alsation mate..... whats it crossed with ?" me "crossed with a german shepherd" them - cue knowing glance, nod and "mmmmm ok" and "Thats a nice alsation, is it crossed with a rottie ?" me "no, its a german shepherd" them "what ? they can be black as well ?"
  3. David Byrne - mad as a box of frogs though Eddie Brickell Paul Simon Norah Jones Paul Jones (Blues Band) Annie Lennox The list could go on.. and on Not everyones taste but a few of mine Guy Garvey Anthony Kiedis Neil Young Leonard Cohen Michael Stipe
  4. Its a fine balance between value for money and a site for the great unwashed. We had one up to about 10 years ago which had reasonable rates. They started relaxing their rules around what could be done around your caravan, how old before they were replaced, scrimped on the site facilities rather than increasing rates. Result was that the site became full of undesirables. A few petty incidents meant that we put a for sale sign in the window one August Bank Holiday. I went to Cadwell Park to watch BSB and by the time I came back she had sold the van to a family that were more at home with the natives. I'm not saying that all sites are the same, or that they all attract the dog ends of society. We had some great times there but the cost and the ties to the one place mean that you really have to want to go there.
  5. Have a look into low price couriers. I had a set of L200 wheels delivered from Scotland for about £20 from one of the parcel 2 go type web sites
  6. Not a nice thing to happen but this may have been part of the natural selection process.
  7. Ive just been to my local opticians to get a pair of prescription lenses fitted to the insert for my eyeline shooting glasses They have said that they cant fit lenses as the glasses are fairly wrap around. I did question this as the insert is fairly flat and I have seen the inserts fitted before. Has anyone else used the insert on these glasses or had any issues getting lenses fitted ? Is there an optician that is happy to fit the lenses ?
  8. I have great memories as a kid going from Skeggy to Wainfleet for fish & chips. Usually eaten from rain soaked newspaper inside a steamed up car. Is the model of a trawler (think it was a trawler) still in the shop window ?
  9. Heres a few of mine Would make hopeless gun dogs And a springer I used to train with
  10. I run one and really enjoy it. Pros : Its very relaxed driving Other road users see you coming Level of refinement is good for a truck (go for a high spec one if you have 15K to throw at it) You can chuck a load of stuff in the back. Mine gets used to carry rubble, chicken feed, building materials etc Carrying the dogs in the back means no dog smells in the cab Cons : Economy - 28 to 30 mpg on a new shape (DiD engine) Although they are comfy, they are still a truck and dont offer a Bently-smooth ride Visibility when reversing is limited but you soon get used to it Ive had two problems with mine. A broken leaf spring and a collapsed pipe to the EGR unit. Other than that, Ive had none of the horror stories that you hear about I dont have to load mine up with kids and the trappings that they bring with them but theres plenty of cab room and lots of space in the tub
  11. I tried the new version of super fast fibre in my 525 and did notice an increase in recoil. At first I thought I couldn't live with it but soon got used to the feeling of being kicked by a shire horse
  12. Lamb kebab (Steven Raichlen recipe)with salad and mint dressing in a pitta Or a big lump of seasoned pork smoked all day
  13. Congratulations ! May as well get the gun because once the gold band is on her finger thats the only shooting you'll be doing
  14. I tend to co-incide my purchases with her big purchases which almost justifies the spend. However, I have got bored from time to time and nipped out for a wander and come home with another gun which I forget to mention. I do find that the gun cabinet makes an ideal storage place for receipts and guarantees.
  15. Rats round here like RWS Super H Point. Work well with my HW80 and AA 410 I use them to control the rats round the chickens but tend to rely more on poison to keep the numbers down
  16. Silkies make good pets but do go broody more than other breeds
  17. We keep large fowl for eggs and find that Croads are very calm birds. Having these around our mixed flock calms down some of the more skittish birds. If youre not bothered about eggs, pekins are great for kids. We keep three pekins for our 5 year old niece and they are now tame enough for her to hold. Eggs are not huge but two eggs gives you more yolk than a normal egg with about the same amount of white - great for a full english.
  18. I started with an excel spreadsheet but after our first vat return, with very little activity, I soon realised that I needed something more. We use Quickbooks and I find it very intuitive. The front end shows you the various stages of invoice and billing life cycle pictorially (great for me !) We dont use the estimates side app or payroll. Their support team get some abuse on forums but I've found them really helpful. I had an issue with trying to reverse out a payment that I had posted and the support team fixed it within 15 minutes. We are running QB 2012 which now has a link to the online HMRC vat system. I used it for last quarters VAT and it was painless (apart from transferring cash which always pains me) Our accountant has a copy of QB and we use him to complete the year end figures only.
  19. We put poison down away from the chickens as we cant get on top of the rats with traps and shooting alone. Liquidised cat food brings them out if you fancy a bit of air rifle action as they have to lap it up rather than take it away.
  20. Much as it pains me to say it, she was one of the weakest cooks last night. Her food was exciting, presentation was great but it was mainly along the same theme. She will be missed - madder than mad mac mc madd !!
  21. A dog that used to train with us was always scratching and had a constant rash. The vets did skin tests, tried various medications with no success. She started feeding barf and the rash cleared up. If youre feeding dry food, the grains used will vary in a lot of cases as the manufacturers will bulk the food up with the cheapest grain available at that time. The formulation may not change but the ingredients to get to the protein levels may.
  22. I have left eye dominance issues and used optical foil to bring my right eye into play. Initially I missed more birds as the picture I saw was very different to the one without the foil. With the foil I see straight down the rib, without I see the left side of the gun and a confused rib (sometimes see two converging ribs) After a few sessions on the clays I had a much clearer picture of where the gun was in relation to the clay and my scores improved. Previously right to left crossers were more hit and hope whereas now I still miss plenty but I have a good idea of what I'm doing wrong.
