I used to live up North it happens all the time. Seriously it amazes me that one min there is an empty den and next its full and just as quick its empty again. There are a lot of holes on one of my farms for badgers fox and rabbit and it seems to me that occupants change all the time?

So sorry to hear your sad news. The sadness is a measure of the pleasure they give and the time spent with them.

I used to go every week when my wife lived there average salary is equivalent to 350 euro. What a lovely City shame about the airline!!

Just put in the most suitable piece as a starter for ten. Here they have signed off my garden (i am in a rural area) for .22lr. When they come round you can talk about other locations too. They agreed my land here (subject to me getting a licence) during the visit. It took me up to 3 months to get all my other land signed off. Mostly as I sent in unsigned 686 forms as I dont believe they need to be signed.

I live next to an internationally important giant duck pond with everything from the occasional Osprey to 50000 gulls. There are so many twitchers here that local farmers are reluctant to control even the crows. I asked Avon and S for ALQ and they said what else would you want to shoot other than pests?

Its always a treat to see wildlife in action. So what were you doing in the previous few months?

Nice bag and making the most of the weather.

Why if they are a pest? There is no definition of pest in law?

Is chippy local a brand? I only remember it as I was going out with a girl over that way and used to pass it on my way home. Not sure I could ever find it again. The first few times i bought them I did not know they were in batter just a funny colour but some of the best I have had anywhere. In another life i did some of the funding for BCLM its an impressive attraction.

There was a chippy that I used Walsall way that did chips in batter. Not fish batter but I think some weak mix so the chips came with an orangy colour and flakes of batter with them they were outstanding. The chips from the shop in the Black Country Museum I think are cooked in lard and they are also at the top end of delicious.

A number of farms (3) I have been to recently have large numbers on the new drilings. The farms are some way from home so I don't get the luxury of trying different tactics. Not sure I want to leave dependents.

Respect Harnser. It takes a lot to question what we do and why we do it. Easy to bimble along the same old route because thats what we do. Much more difficult to challenge ourselves and think of new ways to use what we know and find new paths.

I think its already changing slowly but I do see a more fundamental shift in accountability and the way it operates. Not sure how long it will take. The struggling of countries in the bloc is the same as struggling countries in the UK. It will not be even across the piece but movement of labour will help to even things out. The Euro will need to be underpinned by enforced centralised budgetary control at some point. The is an organisation with millions of different views not just one. I would not want to live in a them and us world.

Somerset and Avon ask me for the name and address of each farm together with contact details of the farmer. They do go out and look some times, but have no idea of the boundaries. If they check on the national register the framer may have bought or sold some land since it was registered. If I send in a 646 form they want it signed prior to checking but if i call in they will check whilst on the phone. Its all a bit random from what I can see. Advice from BASC to me was to make the application with only one perm to get it approved and then go back with other land as if there are a few it could delay approval.

I have a sub 12 Huntsman its superb. Light and easy to handle a dream to shoot. Broke the bolt droping it in the bath (it was empty and i needed the window) but other than that like a dream. Its 177 and the pellets are a bit fiddly. -
Cheers guys very helpful.

I can shoot Canada Geese inland under GL4 damaging crops but I must use non toxic and it must be between Sept1 and Jan 31st. Even though damage is occurring outside of these dates they cannot be shot under that licence and I would need to apply for a licence under AO8. Is this correct?

I leave them on the floor just make sure they are right side up. Leave a killing ground in the middle of pattern thats an easy drop zone for approaching birds. No deeks looking in your direction and well spaced rather than looking like pigeons at feeding time. Be where the birds want to be not where you prefer. Sun behind you if you can, make the quarry look at it rather than you. Make sure you don't cast a shadow on the hide nett, black back drop will help. If birds are approaching high half a roof may help and sit back in the hide under it. Leave space between you and the front of the hide to avoid shadow outline. Don't move on approach only when you go to shoot, look with eyes rather than head. Make movement deliberate and timely rather than snappy and rushed. Try to be as in the hedge line as possible rather stuck in front of it (not always an option).

Realistic where? In the field I would be over the moon with an inch group. Off a rest I would expect better,
