I tried to kill them all and wipe them out. In reality I took out probably 30% of what was there. Its one of a number of rookeries (and crows is that a crowerie??) that feed in to a farm plagued by a variety of blacks. Each year I shoot around a 500 to 1000 birds at this farm which are on all of the crops in large numbers and stop the cattle coming in from the fields to feed. Last year several of the cattle fell over in the yard, scared of the birds which gather in large numbers on the feed. Despite the best efforts of the farmer and hands to right the animals two were lost. I do my best to control the numbers and part of that process is having a go at the two rookeries that are under the control of the farm to try to manage the numbers.

Just back from a nights roost shooting. There for 2030 a short drive down an old roman track to the wood and it was mayhem. Greeted by a cacophony of squawks and swirling birds. Making my way through the wood to the tallest trees in the corner the massacre began. I say massacre as I was thinking of the discussion on here about shooting big numbers in Argentina. Did i want a high number or did I just want to shoot what i was asked to? There were birds everywhere and i started with the adults and whilst I cant be sure of the count it was well over 70 birds based on shells used (a bag full around 100). Many of the branchers were taken two at a time and in some cases three at a time. The gun was hot and birds were dropping to the ground and hanging upside down in the trees. I stayed until 2130 when the cartridge bag was empty and the wood was still. Sitting on the tail gate drinking coffee listening to the now quiet sound of the countryside. It may have been a massacre but it was a job that had to be done. Was it sport, i dont know but it was an exciting evening. Two more rookeries to go.

Just like those little cash jobs in the trades?

When I started shooting i said 5 birds makes a good day then 10 then 20 and so on. Later I realised that what makes a great day for me is the weather the company a few good shots something different I might see and even sometimes just being there. Equally I can see that some want big numbers and good luck to them. I want to shoot and shoot some more If I get a decent bag or not is down to how it was. If we were all the same it would be a boring world. I want to respect any live quarry and try to ensure a clean kill and if numbers get in the way of this then criticism is due otherwise each to his own.

My camo does not fit me like that. A very nice playground indeed. Come to a wood near me please.

You and yours are all good. You searched and tried to find the animal enough done enough said. Its the shock of impact that is at the front of mind now later it will be your own safety and rather lucky escape.

Saw this bore on youtube number two looks like the shooter swings across others to shoot. Never quite sure with perspective on these things but this looks dodgy to say the least.

Thanks Stonepark this gives me a bench mark. Quite some work to do yet then. Interesting that the faster bullet centre moves I was hoping I could just swap between the two I could only get winchester subs at my local supplier but I have now find a better source so can try a few others. Limited to just 600 rounds which is a pain.

Bored here with the rain so set up a target in the garden to practice with the CZ and shot this group at 75 yds. Its good for me as I am still trying to get used to the rifle. Ammunition is winchester subs with rifle zeroed at 50 yds and a 9x scope gives 1 mildot drop at 75yds. I went down the shop and picked up a box of cci velocitor which run at 1435 and thought if I can hold the accuracy they would give me a new zero at 75yds. Likely or not? I would be interested to hear how tight a group those practiced with 22lr can achieve.

You mean Borris trump otherwise known as the duck?

Auto on the road in traffic is lovely. Off road mmmmm I would want a manual. I have a hilux but its my second the first was well used and showed. The one I have now is almost car like to drive and it looks built to last. I would take a look at a few and try to get an unworked model not easy to find. Mine is ex contractors vehicle but it has low mileage and met paint so probably a management car. I had to bite the bullet on vat :-(

Unfortunately it was a hot weekend and this one smoked itself to death.

Great service from them. Some of the kit is a bit iffy IMO but you get what you pay for.

So many voices in favour. Carolyn Fairbairn (CBI) to Gove. 'It is wilfully misleading to suggest that a large proportion of businesses want to leave the EU- every business survey bar none shows a majority wanting to stay in the EU'. Eighty percent of the CBI's members said that business would be more successful within the EU and only 5% want to leave. Surprising maybe given the 'madness' of staying in that there are so many voices from those in a position to understand the impact on jobs and trade that want to stay put? Thursday we can look forward to the BOE inflation report but hey what do they know? Oh and the £ is down 3% since February against a basket of currencies but thats probably just those with a vested interest speculating and it will help exports. Fortunately we don't have a financial interest in the EU so no need to worry.

I shoot pretty much nothing else. 150+ last week and expect more this week. I think I probably shoot more rabbits and squirrel than pigeons
