  1. Tidy piece of writing there, very evocative.
  2. Drat! How did I miss this earlier? :( Can I bag second dibs, please, if pestcontrol1 doesn't take it?
  3. I had my Surf insured with said seafarer once upon a time - then they changed their vehicle database, and refused to acknowledge that my car existed at all, despite it being on their records as having been insured with them for 2 years!
  4. Run the comparison sites every year. Frequently end up with the same insurer as previously, but the leverage encourages them to be competitive. Last renewal, I used my previous insurer, but applied for a new policy, so got the new customer discount - saved about £40
  5. You need to speak to Longstrider on British Blades or Real Outdoor Forum - he can get a edge on jelly! Also, he can adjust edge profiles to give you a more robust edge if needed.
  6. Are you sure you don't mean 200 layers? Folding 200 times would give you about 1.6 x 10 to the power 60 layers!
  7. If you are looking for an Airsporter, I have a mk4 that isn't getting used.
  8. There are some very pretty damasteel patterns around, and lots of folk who make blades with them. No advantage over plain steel these days, but pretty nonetheless.
  9. As you say, they vary widely. Ask Stuart - he's not shy.
  10. Likewise. I also did the calculation to work out that total payout over a draw was actually lower, despite putting the 3-number win up to £25 That said, I still do the Euro syndicate at work, although that is almost more of a collective grumble!
  11. Call it what you like! Holly, cut in October, stripped and thinned down with block plane and spokeshave, then left to air dry in a cool room. Weight monitored weekly, and brought into a warmer room as the weight loss levelled out. (I use this method for seasoning bow staves ) The head is a piece of iroko, from a pair of gateposts taken down by my neighbour , and yes, that's an alpine spike on the bottom. Did excellent service on a 6 mile walk on Boxing Day, although I might need to shorten it an inch or so. Thanks for looking
  12. R1100GS - lovely bike (the origin of my user id). Comfortable all day, surprisingly quick at covering distance, capable of going off road if you're man enough, and yes, you can get the pegs down with practice. Wrote it off when someone did a U turn in front of me. Wrote the car off as well... Haven't even sat on a motorbike since.
  13. Ain't nobody going to top that! Congratulations
  14. You have my sympathy, sir, if not my company Hope you have a peaceful shift.
  15. Ask Alfie, he knows... A enjoyable Saturnalia to all
  16. Another atheist checking in, celebrating the solstice, Yule, Saturnalia and Christmas simultaneously with friends.
  17. Hi Ben From another member of the Kent Massive
  18. Just voted no - now at 76% Surely they wouldn't skew their own vote dishonestly? Oh hang on, it's the Mirror...
  19. What a lovely wedding present! Beats a fondue set... Amy more photos?
