I find it hard to be sympathetic with these sorts, but if there is a case to answer no doubt we will eventually hear what the court think. In the meantime I think it best to try and reserve judgement until all sides can put forward their accounts of what happened for examination.

I would be completely open and honest with your firearms dept. I would also wager the sticking point may be if the firearms lot want a medical report specific to the addiction, no sane GP will want to comment here and no sane addiction specialist will either without a very large incentive indeed. Historically the risk in giving you a ticket would be born by the licensing office, the new rules give them a chance to try and punt the risk onto your doctors who would quite sensibly say they don't want to be involved. Talk to BASC ahead of applying, tee up some excellent references, and prepare for a potential probing. I'd hope it would be possible to get your certificate but you may find nobody wants to be the one who will get pointed at as being 'responsible'. My background is the medical side, I would suggest talking to a friendly FEO informally. My local RFD for instance have one who is almost a permanent fixture at weekends who is most approachable, you may find you can talk informally with your local one pre-application. The best of luck and well done for staying on the straight and narrow.

I found them much less smooth in fibre (to the extent the better half refused to shoot with them), but perfectly fine in plastic.

If it was more than just me around, using a small confined space or tucked up in bed, or even in a place where I would be planning to stay long term I quite agree that LED bulbs make a lot of sense. I did rent a place where I put LED bulbs in, then realised when moving that the place I was going next had different fittings. That was an expensive mistake.
-
If I was likely to be here long term I'd agree, but given how long LED bulbs will take to pay for themselves this is an instance where they don't make sense. Likewise heating the whole house vs just the area I use. It looks like I will scrape by on 500l of heating oil for this winter at the current rate with about four hours fan heater use a week in total to top up.

My desk lamp is a 100W filament bulb. Its nice and bright and keeps my desk warm so I can save on heating. The rest of the house is whatever the landlord had put in, and will be replaced with whatever is the cheapest when bulbs go.

I really struggled to find left handed guns. In the end i drove two hours to a 'specialist' planning to buy a silver pig or browning but they had neither in stock. A Turkish thing in their highly limited selection felt surprisingly nice and seemed to fit well so i bought that instead and have been very happy with it. Dont get me started on finding anything second hand, that is even trickier.

CompX seem to be funny for varying price. Living in Hull, about five miles from the factory I couldn't get them under about £180 a thousand. Drive 5 hours away to Salisbury and £150 a thousand. I had a chat with one RFD about it who reckoned the Hull pricing structure meant unless you were buying vast numbers of cartridges (>100,000 at a time) the trade prices were higher than I was paying in Salisbury.

Not a bad idea, i have a godknows what in my cabinet that takes mobil chokes.

I was invited to a cracking shoot today, and would certainly take a beginner. Unfortunately whilst they are trying to find new members they dont want to advertise because apparently it finds the wrong sort. I despair sometimes, but am also puzzled by the suggestion i am the right sort.

Since meeting one neighbor after they heard me racking the action on my bps and looked over the fence to see if it was what they thought they heard, I was cleaning it on the patio at the time, i have taken to making it reasonably obvious. Gunslip, tweed, cartridge belt, it avoids the neighbors getting any sudden surprises. If the idea of shooting sports has already crossed their mind spotting you with what is likely to be a firearm just supports the idea you shoot. If they have had no clues they jump to silly conclusions.

Definitely worth giving it a go in my book, but remember that everybody is out trying to kill you.

Would you have put a 3.5 inch goose blaster cartridge in it? The chamber length should be clearly marked.

I really like grand seikos. Some innovative work in the mechanisms, finish second to none, not as flashy aesthetics. A spring drive or high beat is on the list for some point in the next five to ten years.

Wrong forum, this is pigeon watch. The league against cruel sports forum is somewhere else.

There is some spectacular stuff in the theory test. Not using tinted visors or warming hands on the exhaust while riding for instance. The hazard perception is the only bit worth spending much time preparing for.
-
That is about £30 if I remember rightly, you can book it online. When I did my tests the longest waiting list was for the theory so I'd look to book one now. You may find you have a good 8 weeks or so to prepare until the next available slot.

North Cotes were by a mile the most newbie friendly place I have seen. Free tuition, a few traps set up purely for 'first birds', drop a text in advance to make arrangements. An utterly fantastic place. There after Brandesburton have a cracking selection of targets, about 200 in total I'd wager. Some nice and simple and some real swine.
-
Compulsive in that you book it after listening to some magnificent machine and going 'I want one', also compulsory in that you have to have it before you can sit any of the tests. Its a one day course usually consisting of a morning in a playground with some cones getting to grips with the basic controls then an afternoon on the road. Price anywhere from £70-£160.

Could you be flinching with the over under in fear of restarting your problems? Do you shoot it well on the clays?

In fairness to the chap his first three tests were at a centre with a pass rate close to 50%, i went somewhere closer to 100%. His confidence was shot by the time he moved elsewhere. Since then he has ridden much more than me and given i have now not ridden a motorbike in almost a year he is probably safer than i am. He also prepared for the test by riding around, not studying 'for the test' as it were.

You will certainly have built up an appetite by the time younwalk all the way to pick up your dinner.

I did mine about three years ago. Already had CBT and theory test. CBT was £75 after some shopping around. If riding a 125cc on the road I assume you have a current CBT. Phoned around for best rate for me and a friend, both had about a weeks worth of experience on the road with a 125cc. We also hit the books on test technique and practiced the mod one bits in carparks. We did all the free preparation we could. Paid just shy of £400 each for direct access including test fees for a two day course. I passed with one minor, my mate with 4 minors. At the time we were both pretty flat broke but time rich. As we were both coming to the end of that we wanted to get our licences but it was a stretch to afford it. After consulting the dvla figures for pass rates we identified a few areas where the fail risk was low, then phoned training schools in those areas. It meant a decent drive but did minimise the risk of expensive resits. Another friend doing his at the same time spent near £2k doing 5 tests in my local town.
