  1. You normally lose a little power in the cold, and gain when it's hot, so need to be aware of really hot days taking you over the 12ft/lbs. I wouldn't expect to see much of a difference shooting at 20-25mtrs but 35 plus it would have an effect. Be interesting to do a chrono check, but it's too cold and windy out for me to be bothered getting things out 😁
  2. I don't think it was a cheap shot, he only just caught him, but yes he's contacted the head. Its going to get to the point that they can't clear out. How long before the player running the ball in is penalised for hitting the head of the tackler?
  3. He had to clear out or lose the ball but then got the red card, barely made contact and it always looks worse in slow mo twenty times. Really enjoyed the game, thought it was played in great spirit, I thought Scotland were better but Wales took there chances, with some great finishing and skill. Imagine the noise if the ground had been full.
  4. Clever ruby, good kicking not just putting it high like England do when they play Wales, I'm enjoying this.
  5. And Japan, I'm guessing it was squashed because of Covid? I'd rather see a barbarian style team than Italian, there must be enough players playing here to get selected, might be too hard to organise though?
  6. No interest in watching England Italy, I'll probably catch the highlights at some point. Scotland Wales should be a better game to watch, be nice to see Scotland perform like they did against England, can't think when Scotland last won two games, that would be good.
  7. Have you tried firing a few shots in the garden while its cold? Or chrono a few? I've been out this week but didn't have any issues.
  8. Strange that they haven't had people queuing to get in there, I sometimes wonder if folk aren't happy only being able to shoot squirrels? You read so many things about people not being able to get shooting permission, unless they only want to shoot when the weather is nice?
  9. That's probably just beyond where I've put the feeder, big area of oak. And its getting lighter earlier now so I can get out more 👍
  10. Thanks fella, its predominantly about protecting Reds where the pictures above are taken, I get passing reds, they probably wouldn't stop because of the greys but there are plenty of us working on that, this area I'm in is mostly ancient woodland. I did expect to get 50 with ease last year, started in May or June after the original lockdown, but you can't predict nature and the massive acorn harvest arrived. I often wonder how far squirrels will travel to food, I should have had other feeders up in here, but its tricky ground with public everywhere. And my initial success made me lazy, but hopefully the bigger feeder being moved up the hill will make a difference but there are a lot of young oak trees up there, plus some big Yew trees. I'll probably pop up next week to see how the feed level is.
  11. Little moments like that are truly magical 🥰 It just shows how different areas can be, 5 miles away ish and I've had 9 in a fortnight which is good for me. When I moved the feeder yesterday there was one squirrel nearby and the feed was down, but its almost been like they just pop by occasionally rather than coming to feed.
  12. I was about to say this. I thankfully don't drive on any smart motorways very often, but the M60 for instance is generally chock a block with cars, add in bad weather, dark and then the changing speed limits with cameras up to 'DO' you if your caught speeding, recipe for disaster. Then add in the years of traffic jams changing the roads while the work is done. Makes me happy driving north for work, light traffic then open roads 😁

    My Jab

You looked far to close. Are you from Norfolk?
  14. This is the ground at one of my feeders @Goldfish Acorns everywhere still. I went out today, took down my feeder and put a smaller one up, its getting used, just not much and it will keep the birds fed. Then humped the bigger feeder up the hill with 7kg of mixed seed. The light was going so I kind of abandoned it, found a nice spot to shoot from with a good backstop and thought that will do, I might find I want to move it again, but it's up the hill now, let's see what happens.
  15. On this occasion I say no, I've tried them and I won't bother again. I might have a glass maybe two at the weekend so I want it to be really nice not just ok.
  16. I've been seeing a few Chaffinches around my squirrel feeders, seems like it much but they haven't been around in my garden for a while.

    Baby gruffalo. Sorry 😁
  18. That explains the numbers then 👍 I think that's what people forget with idea of the fertility drug ideas, the greys will still be doing damage to both flora and forna, but we know that. I can only use live catch traps really where I am so they only get used occasionally, I'd hate to trap a red that found it's way to my patch.
  19. There never is a pattern that makes sense, not to us anyway. I'm certainly getting some big squirrels that's for sure, I think it's a combination of acorns and my feed, but at a fiver for 12.5kg I'm not worried about that, the nuts this week have been a treat here why it's cold, I'm putting out just enough to hopefully get the squirrels on the feeders early. That's some big numbers of squirrels, are you trapping full time then?
  20. I was actually surprised there weren't more today, I'm a good distance from where I shot the three yesterday with a good chunk of wood across the road which I haven't got access to yet. I've put these feeders here to draw them in, but I've only had 4 from here now I think, but there haven't been any squirrels running around, I can fill them easily as well in the dark before shooting them. I changed the feeders slightly, the squirrels were dumping the feed out and eating the good bits, I put the DCM across the top to stop the pigeons helping themselves and keep it dry. The funny thing is the blackbirds and Robin's just sit there looking at the food, but the Nuthatch's and tits squeeze under and in to come out with a nut, it's quite comical, also got a couple of Chaffinches at the feeders as well, haven't seen any in a long while. The first squirrel was sneaky, she came in grabbed a nut then retreated to eat it? This happened twice but on the third trip she stopped to look around, Pfft whack. The second came in like she owned it, sat facing the wrong way before turning around and seemingly looking towards me. That was a mistake she won't repeat. Just the two with nothing else showing, and as I couldn't feel my toes it was time to go. This was about the the angle the shot was taken at, no exit wound but massive trauma with the eye bulging, she dropped like a brick, JSB heavy to the head.
  21. Really? Captain Tom Moore went on holiday at a time when travel was permitted.
  22. Just a quicky, another two this morning, both females from the other feeders where they shot off yesterday. There pass ran out. I found at one point I was looking at the wind direction as much as the rain when checking the weather, obviously depends on where you're shooting.
