  1. It was started by Police Scotland in 2016. Pushed through by Chief Inspector Fraser (Freedom) Lamb, now retired and chief firearms advisor for SACS. There used to be a picture of him on the SACS website but since they moved from the Borders to the A M Letting building in Dalkieth that seems to have dissapeared (bit like their 'News' page). If your surgery is charging more than £60 go to Medcert or if you are a BASC member they also have a service (£50 I think). There is NO NEED to visit the Dr, it is NOT A REQUIREMENT. The form is a simple yes/no 'tick form' that passes no responsibility onto the Dr or your sugery. Unfortunate;ly this is a complete rip-off which has forced additional cost onto the shooting community with no gain to either us or the public.

    ISO 9001

I was BE EN ISO9001 2000, well my company was. It cost me a huge amount of time and money and created mahoosive amounts of paperwork and registers and lists and although it helped me impliment some useful proceedures most of it (99.999%) was a complete and utter waste of time and effort. We (my 3 staff and I) each spent probably 2 or 3 hours a day building reports and paperwork trails... It was and is a complete waste of resource. Large companies spend thousands of man hours and tens of thousands of pounds maintaining it and all it does is clog up the day to day operations with paperwork. If the company is doing a good job and providing a quality service (or quality goods) to its customers it doesn't help in the slightest, i'd say the opposite, it hinders. If the company is producing **** and people are buying it then it doesn't make the quality better it just means that internally the company knows it's useless should it ever pay attention to the mountain of paperwork it creates looking at itself, which is often lies, lies and more lies anyway. It was a fad. It made a lot of money for the BSi and thier associated companies and accredited consultants. A lot of money. I firmly believe that we (as a group of companies that are and who maintain the wealth of the country) suffered. 9001-2000 spawned the 'customer satisfaction' survey'. It took compaies away from providing and delivering quality to managing thier ability to understanding quality based on a 'system'. A system that no one ever really understood because it has no meaning. It was no longer a pre-requisite that you knew what you were physicaly doing it became more of an issue that you kept records and generated reports and had meetings about the creation of the reports. The larger the company the worse it gets. Try responding to a tender from a government department, even local government or someone like BAE systems. You will need hours and hours and hours to complete the paperwork and a team of contract writers and lawyers. The contract, should you win it, will then be subjected to extraordinary scrurtiny and you will need to negotiate a rise in costs to meet the ludicrous amounts of detailed reporting and paperwork that ISO9001 dictates and requires. Avoid at all costs. Provide a high quality, good value service and the customers will come to you ...
  3. Thermal spotters are OK, but any use of thermal or IR/digital scopes is illegal in Scotland (on deer) even in the daytime. https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/threads/night-vision-and-law.232182/
  4. Ilegal in Scotland .... I (personaly) see it as bad form anywhere to be honest. Stalking is all about using your fieldcraft/skill to get close...

  9. No, No, No, not at all, No,definately not. No, No, No .... well maybe but just a little bit, tiny, insiey wincey, hardly worth a mention really.
  10. There is the 85% rule (a guideline rather than law) which sates that you shouldn't tow more than 85% of the car's kerb weight. Your Tiguan wieghs 1650kg (?) so in real tems you shouild only be towing a max wieght of 1400Kgs... The manufacturer gives the max towing limit based on the cars mechanical capabilities e.g. braking clutch engine power etc. A Landrover Defender (2.25T) can tow 3.5T ... I have tried and it didn't feel that safe to be honest. Similarly the trailer will have a rating which is relative to the mechanical capabilities of the trailer. I am tending to side with the dealer here as the trailer and load should not exceed the kerb wieght of the car ... you break that rule (I think) so "No" http://www.towingcapacity.co.uk/towing-capacity-calculator.html
  11. Yes I just converted one of the pictures from an Apple only format to one everyone could see ....

    Salad Crisis

    Good point, well made.
  15. There we are Mr Frazer (FREEDOM) Lamb, gamekeeper turned poacher and still remarkable in insisting that he alone steered and 'set up' an existing UK-based (Firearms licencing) system (that) does work better, namely the firearms licensing executive of Police Scotland. A system that he thinks should be adopted across the whole of the UK because "this tragedy (Plymouth) is the fault of the authorities and their failure to manage the England and Wales certification process properly". No doubt he believes that George Pattison would also have been neutralised by his policies ? Remember this is the same Ret. Chief Inspector Lamb who introduced the Medical Certificte/tick list requirement for Shotgun and FAC holders forcing an additional cost (significant in a lot of cases) on the Scottish shooting community which has now become the norm across the UK. If you have been forced to 'pay' for a doctors (tick list) letter, then Fraser (FREEDOM) Lamb is your man. It was his baby, carried out against Home Office guidance on firearms licensing laws and without Scottish Ministers ratification or ruling. That's 'his' system, 'his' legacy. What he did for the UK shooting community didn't dissuade a very small number of shotgun/FAC licence holders to commit these awful acts. Fraser was also veciforlesly demanding an increase in the fee system to cover 'all costs', costs which according the the Ex Chief Inspector are several hundreds of pounds .... "All the official organisations need to overcome their internal arrogance that they know best." really Fraser, really ? When you are standing in front of the mirror yelling "FREEDOM" with your razor at the fore perhaps you shouild be reflecting that you are irrevocably linked to the rising cost of gun ownership in the UK, something that I see you are pushing SACS to continue. Lets hope Alex sees sense. Or are you and he hoping to be the drivers behind the "new system for England and Wales must be professionally competent, curious, robust and fit for purpose" which is the reason for all of this self promotion ?
  16. Yes I do and yes you should.
  17. I do find it slightly amusing that you are asking this question in a (primarily) shotgun/shooting forum when you then say ... " I’ve owned 6 in the last 13 years. I keep on top of the maintenance and they’ve been as good as gold. " and "I have the 4.4 V8 in my ranger rover and a Td5 Defender, and love them both, but really fancy a classic. " and " I have a decent mechanic that knows Land Rovers and is very reasonably priced." This would appear to indicate that you have a good deal of experience with these vehicles, probably more tham the majority of the members in this forum. I think @Agriv8gave some good advice .. "join some proper forums and do your homework! "

    22.250

Third time lucky is it ? Last time then ... That M55 db58 is selling will be a stunning rifle. It may need a new barrel, in which case the gun is worth about £200, if it doesn't then it's worth £500
  19. There is a missunderstanding going on here .... You do not have to supply your medical records. I think @old'unhas hit the nail on the head. Your 'lad on the farm' hasn't fully understood what has been asked and niether has the FLO at NWP. Anyway i'm glad you're all sorted @snow white
