  1. That’s a good deal for someone. When they last sold they cost about 3 times that price! Best wildfowling load you can’t buy!
  2. Yes some people talked about this problem - but it never happened to my gun. Whether it was because my barrels were chrome lined ….? No idea for sure. It certainly killed wigeon very well.
  3. I used it quite a lot on the foreshore when it first came out - it worked well enough. It was a dense tungsten alloy and distributed by Lyalvale Express. They stopped selling it a few years ago. If there is a new ‘Hevishot’ available now, I haven’t tried it yet.
  4. No one on a driven day will give a monkey’s about the value of your gun. However it’s highly unlikely for repeaters to be allowed on a ‘let-day’. The advice above re buying a good used O/U is sound.
  5. Are you using a 12 Amp Hour batter? They are a bit of a lump to drag about. A 7 Amp Hour battery weighs a lot less and is great for flappers. Wonder if that could help?
  6. Yes I had one of those grade 3s in a 12 bore - beautiful gun. Like you I regretted selling it. You live and learn. The 20 bores have a higher comb than the 12 bores. The 20 is 36mm / 56mm. Don’t know if that would suit the OP or not….? We are all different shapes and sizes.
  7. I think all the guns above are really sensible solid suggestions - including the Miroku MK60. If you’re going on a buying trip, try visiting somewhere which stocks the guns above. You might need to take in a couple of RFDs. Nice problem to have. Good luck!
  8. I know this probably isn’t the answer you’re looking for, but….. how about visiting a well stocked gun room and put a few different 20s to your shoulder? If it’s on a clay ground and they have some demo guns all the better. One ore two guns are likely to ‘feel right’ and fit. At least you’ll end up with a hitter - rather than a fancy gun which you may not get on with.
  9. I know little about Parker Hale guns - other than a friend started his shooting career with one about 10 years ago and it was dreadful. The trigger was very heavy, distractingly bad. When I was showing him the ropes, he would often hit with the top barrel and miss with the bottom. This occurred with uncanny regularity. I tested POI for him. Top barrel shot to point of aim, the bottom one about a 1 1/2 ft under the mark at 25 yards. Perhaps his wasn’t a Winchester…..?
  10. Hard journey for BASC to navigate Scully - through stormy seas. I appreciate the point you make though.
  11. Not surprised - nice looking example. Too far away for me… familiar tale….🙂
  12. Boring answer - but depends what suits the individual. I particularly like the one without any mid rib under the forend and ventilated up the rest of the barrels. With 30 inch barrels it has near neutral balance and I personally get on well with one. The current model is different again - I suppose it will keep on evolving.
  13. There have been several ‘variants’ of this model - over their many years of production. The year of manufacture gives me a clue as to which variant it’s likely to be.
  14. I need an extra pair of electronic ear def’s as my son keeps pinching mine. These Howard Leight ones seem alright. I will order some - and the gel ear cups. Thanks very much for your help.
  15. Try the Hull High Pheasant Extreme number 6 30 gram. Like the Black Gold they use continental shot so not really a 6, closer to a UK 5. Lovely cartridge.
  16. Sorry I just find all this BASC bashing a little tedious. They are doing an extremely tough job. To a greater degree, they (we) have little choice but to ‘ride the green wave’ or become swamped by it. There has to be some adherence to sustainability, but also support for shooting - an extremely tricky balancing act. Will they always get it perfectly right? Of course not. The best we can expect, is that they get it right most of the time - like the rest of us trying to find our way through life. My observations are that they do generally achieve this. My own personal experiences with BASC employees are that they are passionate about field sports and have a genuine drive to help. I am currently working with them on shoot conservation projects and youth clay shooting. They’ve been a vital resource! There will always be a few BASC haters - queue the stick but I’ve got thick skin! However, wouldn’t it be a refreshing change if they were treated like human beings, instead of targets for abuse from the very community they’re trying to help!
  17. Could you please tell me - do you have to buy the gel ear cups separately or do they come with those?
  18. There are certainly genuine increases in production costs. However, there is also a degree of commercial opportunism at work. How do we know what is a genuine and proportionate price increase - and what is not……?! There are sneaky exaggerated price hikes across many sectors now.
  19. I think they are trying to ramp up their lead cartridge prices as much as possible - pre steel transition. When (or if) we all transfer to steel, we will be jumping across to a product with a much higher margin….. or am I just being cynical….?!
  20. …. while till the clay breaks on the ground. Couldn’t resist finishing that sentence. 😄 Sorry, you’re probably a world champion for all I know…. ?!
